I've always thought this tagline was interesting and since "it's complicated" has it's own check box now versus the good old days when you were either single or not, I'm going to pay homage to it. I'm going to write about how I went from being single to it's complicated in a mini-series post.

When I think back, I can say this feeling of being complicated started early in my life. I still remember his name.
This little Italian boy in my 3rd grade class whom I had a crush on. We started kindergarten together, we use to share our lunches and swap our cookies and we use to lay our mats together during nap time. Now, in my school we use to have dances every year for every grade. It's a bit cheesy but it's elementary school. I think they were teaching us social skills at a young age to prepare us for what's going to happen once puberty hits. Anyway, we were partners at the dance and that was my first memory of handing a boy's hand. If you put that in adult perspective, he might have been my boyfriend.
The summer right before 4th grade, my mom announced we were moving. I was devastated. Being the drama queen, I insisted on being left behind because life would be miserable without all my friends. I didn't want to move. I couldn't stand not seeing him or playing tag during recess. There was no way for me to communicate with him. We didn't exchange phone numbers at a such a young age. And I didn't know where he lived so I couldn't exactly leave him a note. So we moved away and I never saw that Italian boy again.
When I made new friends at the new school, they asked me why I always looked so sad. They thought it was because I was new. I told them "no, it's complicated..."
That was my first experience from being single to it's complicated.

first!!!
I don't stick around when it becomes "complicated." "It's complicated" is usually code for "we enjoy drama and making a big deal out of nothing. We don't know how to be happy without being miserable."
I don't want to be the kind of girl in a complicated relationship.
Relationships aren't that difficult people just make them difficult.
@sexyscorpions@xanga - Except, there are different types of complicated relationships. Mine is currently a complicated type because of distance.
fifth!!!
it's complicated usually means that the guy that I'm interested in is married because I have a thing for older unattainable men. they are just crushes though since it's complicated and would never work because I'm not a homewrecker but these married men are so appealing to me than single men my age. whatever.
I use either taken or single; there is no inbetween >.> I'm done with drama honestly.
It's complicated for me is because my parents don't want me having any labels till I graduate and go to college (four months till college now, thank god) so my boy and I put "It's complicated" on our facebook to comply with their wishes. We will put "In a relationship" In august when we head off to college.
We're just following rules :P
but yes, most relationship statuses that say "It's complicated" mean... "We don't know what we want, and it's a bunch of drama." Lol.
when it becomes "complicated" it means to me at least, run the other way.
LoL! Cute story.
I dunno if it's cause I never experienced it but I do not understand the rationale of "it's complicated" and why people insist on brodcasting it as a relationship status. If "it's complicated" you keep that ish to yo-self! Seriously.
For me personally. I either want to be single or in a relationship. I don't want any gray area. But of course sometimes that's unavoidable, but the moment that I realize that a relationship is not going anywhere, I'm gonna be right out the door! Not sticking around and hoping it gets better - because in that time I probably could have went out of found me a real relationship.
The only thing I could think as I read this is how FREAKING cute it would be if the italian boy is on Xanga and reads this and finds you!!!
Aww this story made me really sad haha. I think we all secretly would have wanted to actually fall in love with our third grade "boyfriend" :]

my sitch is complicated because i'm married ... but seperated. i've filed for divorce, but it's not final, so i'm not single ... i have a restraining order against the raving SOB, so we are DEFINITELY not together ... and i'm interested in and have a relationship with someone new, but i'm not really his GF because i'm married ... which, as soon as Abusive A-hole stops fighting, shall be rectified....
lol
complicated.
awww, such a cute story >.<
cute!
That same sort of thing happened to me as well. I went to the same small private school for six years, my entire elementary school career. My class had ten people in it originally, though the numbers fluctuated as years went on. There was a boy in my class who I developed a crush on in third grade, and I continued to have a crush on him throughout all my years at the school. The first time he responded to me in more than a friendly way was in sixth grade, at which point we started mutually flirting, as well as hanging out after school together, going different places and just enjoying each other. He never asked me out, but we were basically going out. This went on for two years after that.
If you count this, it was the longest relationship I've ever had - five whole years. It's kind of ridiculous, if you think about it. But since it's only an "It's complicated," I've never counted it in my romantic history as far as boyfriends I've had. Emotionally, he was my boyfriend. Does it count even though he never asked me out? I'm not sure. I did hold hands with him, and we told each other "I love you" sometimes. This was my first experience with "it's complicated."
