The Top 10 Most Unsual Places to "Man Shop"
For women who haven’t yet cashed in at the like and love registers of man shopping malls – bar, gym, online, etc, author Tristan Coopersmith suggests that it’s time they diversify their dating playgrounds. Having penned the witty, yet insightful tome, MENu DATING: Taste Test Your Way to the Main Course (St. Martins), in addition to working for years as a trend forecaster evaluating behaviors of twenty-somethings and the like, Coopersmith is well versed in the dating process and well equipped to provide insight. “Most women always look in the wrong places,” states Coopersmith. “After all, who really wants to tell their grandchildren that they met grandpa while double-fisting it in a bar anyway?!”
Coopersmith attests that there is a vast array of alternatives to man shopping, “All women have to do is hang up their open for business sign.” She adds, “By projecting a friendly, available attitude and putting on their peripheral dating vision they will finally see the whole world as one giant dating pool ripe with mandidate (i.e. man candidate) opportunity.”
Through thoughtful research and years of personal experience (good and bad) Coopersmith unveils 10 unusual scouting locations bursting with boys and men.
1. Driving range
Don’t let the cheating ways of Tiger Woods have you thinking that all golf enthusiasts are self-proclaimed sex addicts. Some of them are actually dateable. The driving range is littered with single guys perfecting their game for personal interest or business advancement purposes. Nuzzling up to one to get a few pointers on your stroke is an easy way to score on this course.2. Vegas!
Do not stop at the slot machines, do not get caught up at roulette – go straight to the big boys tables: craps and blackjack to increase your odds of winning some real cash, and an eligible bachelor. Guys are totally turned on by vivacious, confident women (i.e. lady lucks) around the table betting on their own or cheering them on as they strut their gambling savvy. Alternatives that work equally well, the horse track or car-racing track. They are all sure bets!3. Sunday brunch hotspots
Another case of misery loves company but in this instance it’s a pounding headache and a queasy hangover hankering for an egg n’cheese omelets and a bottomless coffee that unites single souls on weekend mornings at none other than, brunch. Busy brunch hotspots are a hub for hookups as he and she wait in line together for tables, creating an opportune time for light-hearted conversation, which could lead to a table for the two of you in the future.4. Beer festivals
Where there is beer, there are men. Enough said.5. Record stores (yes, they still exist)
CD and record stores, old and new are filled with guys looking for the latest release or the rarest treasure. If you are a lover of music this could be the spot to score your rocker prince charming. Plus this is a great locale to discover upcoming concerts in town, which is also another field ripe for man picking.6. Public transportation
Commutes are arduous, flights are boring, waiting at a stop can cause anxiety, so why not spice it all up with a flirting session? The public transportation arena – be it bus, subway, train, ferry or plane is a most foolproof place to approach a mandidate because your target is as likely to be craving a time-killing activity as you, so he will welcome the conversation. Purposefully sit next to someone who catches your eye and navigate your way into falling in like.7. Men’s clothing stores
Got some shopping to do for your brother, father? As opposed to being the feeble female in need of help like at the hardware store, come to a cutie’s rescue in the clothing arena. When you spot one who looks a little helpless, grab something that with your keen style eye you know would look hot on him and ask him to model it for you. Next thing you know, you will be accessorizing him from head to toe all throughout the store, eventually in need of a happy hour cocktail break.8. Errand running
No more running around in your jammies with last night’s eyeliner smudged, as you check off your to-do list. Some of the best men run-ins occur when you are not the porn star version of yourself, but when you are just out taking care of life. So expect Cupid to shoot his arrow at anytime and be open to being hit. Think of the grocery store (note: go late night and hit the prepared food or frozen food section) post office, car wash, dry cleaner, coffee shop, bookstore as all possible places to meet someone special that who knows, might get added to your to-do list.9. Auto show
This is the man mecca – the place where men flock to annually to set their eyes on beauteous curves of steel and talk shop about horsepower, MPG and gigawatts. They ogle all day at the fine pieces of machinery, daydreaming of what they wish could have. Ditzy models glisten in bikinis far from arms reach only thickening the fantasy so what would be better than meeting a real girl who is impressed by said boy’s car passion and likes cars a little too? Other than a beer to go with it, not much.10. Co-ed barber shops on a weekend morning
Boys gotta get their hair did too, so where do they “head” to get coiffed? The barbershop! In many cities there are hipster shops that cater to not only male do’s, but ladies do’s too. Stop by on a Saturday or Sunday morning for a harmless trip, and a packed-house of scruffy hotties waiting to get groomed will be there ready to greet you, digging your down-to-earth nature, loving you for skipping the $200+ per cut salon.Where are some places you "man shop"?

Aren't some of these places the type of attention you wouldn't want to attract?
On campus. If a guy is doing well in school, then he's somewhat motivated or at some sort of a plan.
The food places around campus -- men love to eat, and I love cooking and eating as well.
the Gym -- again, he probably doesn't do too many drugs if he goes to the gym. Plus if he works out that means he's probably hot.
The Pool/museum/ whatever your hobby is. If you love *insert hobby* then go to where others of your kind go, and that way you'lll know he has something in common with you.
haha when i read this--esp. the part of a women hitting the frozen and prepared food sections at a grocery store i just visualized this crazy-eyed woman, dressed all up to look casual making her nightly trip to the grocery store not to buy anything but to desperately meet a man.
I think this is the best 'where to meet a guy' post yet. (:
Thing is though, what the hell do you say to them!? Especially in a frozen food section... "Nice chips..."
Let's not forget the library for those adorable nerd types!
some of them are reasonable. but i hate golf courses & auto shows as places to find men. that means the women don't realy like golf or cars but want to pretend just to get someone. that's so sad & desperate. it's like a guy going into a girls' clothing store or beauty salon. if you're really into that stuff, like without influence of the other sex, then i really commend people on that. i.e. i started playing golf at 15 years ago, years before a lot of guys ever touched an iron. i'd go there now & if i meet a guy, then fine. it just makes us real golfers look so bad, like we're trying to look "cool" to get guys' attention. i think that's also why i took up ice & roller hockey.
I don't like the way this was written. The style annoys me.
That said, it's a good list.
I found all my boyfriends at school, throught other friends, and at work. Pretty normal.
Church ;D
go running. =)
The only men who practice at the driving range I go to are either ancient or just intimidating with their amazing golf swing. :P
anywhere a book is held in large collections usually has cute guys. && hell yeah to Vegas i will not spill all the fun me and my cousins have had mooching off Vegas boys we will never ever see again.
&& the driving range reminds me of I Love You, Man.
#4... FTW
@starbecks - true that. that's where you'll find me lol
@lesprit__descalier@xanga - running depends where you are, some places are the middle of no where.
I'm hitting up 7 for sure, and maybe 4. XD
Yea, definitely forgot the gym. I met a cute boy there today, actually!
@PhotographicWords@xanga - college is a good place.
#2 is NOT a place (casino) you want to meet your SO...the last thing you need is a gambling addict!
I can't believe I'm reading this. is there a shortage of men out there or something? Wow. How come when I'm out at any of these places and I try to talk to a woman, it's like talking through a 3" pane of bulletproof glass. You are all in your own world and NOT letting me in. Hey, if you're all so desperate to meet a man, here's one right here. It's raining women but I can't seem to get wet.
Barnes and Nobel, and the library :D I am always meeting cute boys at Barnes and Nobel. School is generally good too, and I actually do end up meeting guys through church. Music stores was one I hadn't thought of, though -- that's a good one. All the rest, though? I don't think I'd want to meet a guy who likes to gamble, or a compulsive drinker, or one of those obnoxious golfer guys. That's just not the type of guy I date. I'd be much more likely to meet a future boyfriend in a music store or the library :) Whoever said "go with your interests"? Completely correct.
