Happy Singles Awareness Day!
"Valentine's Day, celebrates love and romance for those currently in a relationship. However, if you are in between relationships, or without a significant other, you may feel left out. Valentine's Day can be a depressing day. So, the day after Valentine's Day is your day." - Holiday Insights
I remember when my high school French Teacher told me all about Singles Awareness Day. The name he told me it was Black Valentine's Day. The day is when singles start getting together and sharing stories about their worst moments of Valentine's Day. The idea of there being a holiday for those with no valentine's piqued my interest to say the least.
I read on and found that what was Black Valentine's Day is actually known as Singles Awareness Day, which is celebrated on the 15th (but is sometimes celebrated on Valentine's Day to take the sting off of the lack of a valentine). Some websites would call it a response to the commercialism of Valentine's Day, and it could either be used to spend by yourself or with friends. In fact, according to the website dedicated to the holiday, dedicated to the holiday, "this is the day that all of the single people can proudly stand up and show that it is OKAY to be single."
On one side, the obscure holiday was created by Dustin Barnes of Mississippi State University, who, according to independent.ie, "was not having luck dating at the time". The holiday was made to create parties, so one doesnt have to celebrate it any other day. Another few articles suggested that it was organized by the harsher "Lovers-go-die club" in Taiwan. "Lovers Go Die" is written and directed at couples who don't seem right together and are only together for the sake of either lust, superficiality, or, well, anything that has no real interest in love. They do, however, applaud couples who get together and are truly in love with each other.
Other than the Taiwan practice, if anyone is tired of having no valentine or wants to celebrate being single, then not only is Singles Awareness Day just for you, but so is October 1st--Singles Day. Who knows? When you celebrate the holiday, you might find someone in the process.

I'm only 19 and I'm already sick of hearing "happy singles awareness day"... it's really old, and you have to be insecure and needy to actually feel bad on Valentine's Day if you're single.
Frankly I think a majority of guys out there would be horrible boyfriends if paired up with me, and I'm in no hurry to hook up with any guy in hopes of ridding myself of my single status.
I just don't see the big deal with either V-Day or Singles Awareness Day.
If you're happy - either with or without someone - why do you need to have a specific day to show that?
Singles' Awareness Day makes me sound like I've got a disease.

Singles' Awareness Day is fine with me. Yes, I am single and I don't see anything wrong with it. I am embracing the fact that I am single and I celebrate Singles' Awareness Day on the 14th of February just for fun.=)
Single Awareness Day = S.A.D.
@jerrywhoo@xanga - Wow, that is sad!
@my_horizon@xanga - Seeing as how it isn't as famous (and probably doesn't have a historical background, compared to Valentines), something tells me you are going to hear it much more every Valentine's week of your life anyway. Heh!
@jerrywhoo@xanga - Oh, the irony. Haha!
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - The way I see it, you don't need a specific day to show it [because if you do, that'd make you a pretty shitty girlfriend/boyfriend], but isn't it nice just to kinda have a day for it anyways? I always compare it to Mother's/Father's Day; nobody complains about it being a day to appreciate your mother/father, even though, shouldn't you appreciate them everyday [barring specific... family situations where your parents, either individually or both, are dislikable, where you wouldn't, "Celebrate," Mother's/Father's Day anyways]?
I'm single. I just figure, one of these Valentines I hope not to be.
@Nevando@hardestlevel - I don't celebrate "day"s in general, other than maybe New Year's and Christmas/Easter. I just don't see the point because I appreciate the people in my life everyday.
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - ditto.
I don't see the point in single people being bitter about valentine's day to the point where they try to come up with some ridiculous excuse like how there shouldn't be just one day where you show a person you love them and needing to have a single awareness day.It just seems completely silly. Both "holidays" really. Pointless consumerism.Singles Awareness Day should be BEFORE Vday, not after -- that way, everyone could get together.
Or maybe us single people need a week.
@my_horizon@xanga - "it's really old, and you have to be insecure and needy to actually feel bad on Valentine's Day if you're single." -- i wish more people had this opinion. the amount of bitching i hear is completely unnecessary.
Its true someone mentioned above singles awareness day-SAD I too feel the same.
