  • "I'm 12, I Smoke, I'm Not a Virgin and my Boyfriend is 17"

Recently I've moved to a not so great are in the city. It's one of those areas where hearing a gunshot in the middle of the night isn't a strange thing. Where people still think rat tails are cool and where every second house is indicated as a drug dealer's house by the shoes hanging on the phone line.

While just sitting in the car on the way to the shopping centre, I've noticed the amount of girls who look no older than 13 or 14 holding hands or making out with a much, much older guy who are without a doubt sporting a pregnant belly.

I never used to think much of it, but now that I live in the city I notice it more and more. What is society coming to? I mean I know that back in the "old" days, girls were getting married and actually having children at this age, but I was under the impression that things changed. Apparently not.

Tonight while on Facebook, I noticed that many of my friends had joined a "group" which was based on girls such as these. The title: "I'm 12, I smoke, I'm not a virgin and my boyfriend is 17. I'm so proud."

After spending hours reading that posts out of boredom. I couldn't believe the amount of girls who actually posted on it saying that they were proud of the person they'd become. How can you become a person when you've seen nothing of the world?

Somebody I knew posted this comment on the page and received a lot of feedback from others:

Any guys who are posting comments and are agreeing with girls this age sleeping with ANYBODY, whether it be boyfriend or not obviously need to wait a few years to grow some pubes and some respect for females. Any guy who is the 17 year old boyfriend to a girl who is this age, You are just as messed up, if not more.

    Girl...
s, be proud of yourself as much as you like if you do this - that certainly doesn't make it right. Don't be surprised when you get labeled a slut/slag/whore/scrag or when you get pregnant or sick from an STI, because you set yourself up for it when you didn't think about what you were doing. Don't walk around expecting it never to happen to you, because nothing can 100% guarantee that it wont. If your going to be stupid, that's your own fault don't blame anybody else or "experiences in your life." You have always had a choice to do the right thing and you obviously haven't chosen it.

Oh, and don't parade it around so that everybody knows, it's disgusting.

I'm not saying this because I know him, but because I completely agree. What the hell are these girls thinking? How can a child look after another child? Where are the parents of these kids? What the hell is going on in the guy's mind when they have intercourse with somebody that more than likely wasn't even born in the same decade as them?

It truly is disgusting, what on earth makes them believe that this is the right way to go?

Does anybody else see what I'm seeing?

I live in a middle-class suburban town, and even here, you see a lot of this. A 4th grader in my neighborhood asked me to buy him cigarettes once. I know 12 year olds who are sexually active. I know 12 year olds who look older than me. I really don't know what this world is coming to. When I was 12, my idea of a party was someone birthday, not the crap that these kids are doing.

    It's gross, really.

  • InTheThin@xanga

I feel like kids who are 12 shouldn't take the full blow for their actions. Maybe when they're in their upper teens, but most pregnant middle schoolers just needed a better education and more informative parents..

  • ordinary_gir1@xanga

any 17 year old guy thats willing to sleep around with a 12 year old needs a slap in the face.

    thats just nasty
and so is that picture at the top of the post.

I live in the suburbs, and my brother was actually just telling me about how this guy he knows bragged about the fact that he has a fake id to his entire class so he can go buy everyone beer.My brother is 14

Ew. I hate these kids irresponsible parents.

  • RachelEliason@xanga

I agree, it's wrong and disturbing. these girls are way to young, and shouldn't be proud of what is going on. they are being used for their bodies.

I knew a guy like this once, went out with much younger women and sometimes teenage girls. Not only was it gross and creepy, he then had the gall to complain because his girlfriends were always acting so immature. Duh!

  • sexncookies@xanga

I dont know...Im just as bewildered as you my dear.

  • JoeytheGenie@xanga

    I'm 16 and I still don't 'party'
and that's not b/c I have no life
I chill with friends, we just keep it fun but clean

  • MiaJoyTheWriter@xanga

That's just wrong. Those kids need love. If they got enough love in their own families, they probably wouldn't be in such a hurry to grow up.

  • xsteph_ox@xanga

I knew girls like that when I was 12. It didn't seem so strange back then though... didn't know any that got pregnant until they were at least 15 though.

This post is kind of funny because I joined a group on facebook yesterday that was called "You're 12, you smoke, you're not a virgin and your boyfriend is 17... you must be so proud!" lol

  • Shy___Away@xanga

I'm not going to say these kids know what they're doing, because I don't think anybody really knows what they're doing until much, MUCH later in life, but I'm not going to say they can't handle it. Sure, "kids shouldn't be raising kids" is great and all that, but if that's what they were raised for? Believe it or not, some people are actually raised in a very family oriented circuit, with little to no emphasis being placed on school. What is one of the top reasons parents don't want their teen getting pregnant? (Because it'll interfere with their schoolwork.) Which it will, don't misunderstand me, but some people just think that that is the sort of life they should lead. It's not that they're not thinking, it's just that they don't have an educational, financially successful lifestyle as an ultimate goal.

in the words of voltaire, "common sense isn't so common!"

  • iStephanieMarie@xanga

Until you're 18 you're a child. Children need to act like children. I wish I was 12 again and not living in the adult world I'm in now at 23.

  • auspicious_affliction@xanga

That is disgusting and twisted. I honestly don't know what this world is coming to, this kind of thing makes me sick. Childhood is a precious thing, it's really sad to see some children spoiling it with sex and drugs. Someone has to be protecting them. If you're going to get into those things, you have to be smart about it. Young people need direction. It's just gonna be really sad for them when they hit 18 (if they even make it that far) crawling with STDs, lung cancer, babies and extremely fucked up heads.

  • rizzyBeautifullyBroken@xanga

That's really sad. Those kinds of girls need more love in their lives. They need their confidence to be built up; they need something real to be proud of. They need the freedom to be children. @MiaJoyTheWriter@xanga - Agreed 100%

  • greenfaerie86@xanga

This is absolutely disturbing. I used to live in a city like yours where almost all of the things you've described were normal every day parts of life and when I moved I thought I would escape it. However, once I moved to a very small town, the pregnancy issues, the younger preteen girls dating older guys was very prevalent here as well. It's just wrong on so many levels.

  • Starring_Hobo89@xanga

At least the 12 year olds made their own choice.

I feel sorry for the babies of these pre-teen kids. They're going to have a pretty fucked up life.

.. then thinking about it, these 12 year olds probably had pretty fucked up parents too.

Free education? I have no idea how to remedy this

I just did a Google. According to the Healthy Teen Network,

    http://www.healthyteennetwork.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC=%7B3EEAA079-A14B-482D-B17D-895AD0CEBFE4%7D&DE=%7B199D3A2F-063E-41DB-BEBE-F492E22A2709%7D

their kids are at risk for low birth weight, failing in school, poverty, abuse, yadda yadda. Basically, kids having kids leads to f***ed-up kids. No brainer. Yet they persist. And the solution has been to distribute birth control. And if you speak out against premarital intercourse, you’re called unrealistic, biased, religious fanatic--I could go on. But that doesn’t do squat for the problem. God help us--oops--there’s that narrow-minded religious bias.

  • wrybreadspread@xanga

@Shy___Away@xanga - hot dogness.  In this day and age, somebody still knows the old wisdom.  Quoting Voltaire.  It doesn't do squat for the problem--but it encourages me that people do more than swallow pop culture media.

  • BlehhItsTu@xanga

I've seen successful teen mommies, but there are only few.. namely young mexican ladies who have family to support them. But then there are some people who have kids, get on the bus, and threaten their babies with "Imah woop your ass if you don't sit still" and call their girlfriends on the phone to talk about doing other irresponsible things.

There's that typical pattern of abuse and poor decision-making among the preteen mommies and their children and their children's children.. etc.

It's a tough circle to break, and I'm sure not many are able to do so.

  • thedyingroses@xanga

I thought it was "outrageous" when I learned that 2 girls [who were at most 18.5] already had babies! That means, their senior year of high school they were pregnant. One is married to the father [which is great, as far as "great" can be in this situation], but the other isn't. There might be a third girl who has a had a baby.

My point is, even 17 is too young to have a baby. I think the youngest a woman should be when she has a baby is 20.

  • irishluck20@xanga

This happened to a girl when I was in middle school. I'm a freshman in college right now, 19 years old. My neighbor at the time (I was in 8th grade), was in 7th grade and got pregnant by her boyfriend. Ok, he was only 2 years older, but still in the 7th grade. She had the baby at the end of 7th grade.

Now what does she do? Luckily for her, her mother is helping her out a little bit. At least this girl can finish high school. Will she go off to college? Unlikely. What doe she do for fun on the weekends? This 18 year old girl has been partying (i.e., drinking, smoking, smoking pot) since she was 15 years old. FIFTEEN! What the hell.
This is just messed up. Honestly, the whole "birth-control education" isn't working. Something needs to be done. Then again, abstinence free education isn't working. What to do..
  • huskyman47@xanga

As a parent , It makes me sad that other parents "dropped the ball" big time - If that 17 year old boy really loves that 12 year old girl   they should both wait untill shes legal  and if they still feel the same  , then be together . But anyway you look at it - a 17 - 12 match-up is just very wrong .

  • sflynn17@xanga

are you kidding me? i thought that group was sarcastic and maybe at most taken over by stupid kids who don't understand that irony. woooooooow. double hit in the heart for me.

    • About Me: You could find the most unexpected emotion, burried in the most obvious place and still refuse to believe that its real. So im 17; and a complete mess. i change my opinion alot; and then i voice it too much. i usually have too much to write about simply because i think too much. Those things, i usually overthink which causes havoc inside my head. But i usually get through that :)
