The Model Vs. Librarian
I was reading ''Mediocre Dating", and it said something about the woman wanting someone to date, but found out the one who gives her what she wants on a deeper level are the ones she doesn't really want. Right then and there, I wanted to bring out something I learned a long time ago.
The ones you claim to want are not really the ones you need. You might see someone that is financially good, and might make great love, but aside from that, if their personality is paper-thin, and has no surprise other than their outside attributes, its not going to fly, unless you just happened to have a paper-thin personality, too.
Overtime, I seem to find that the ones that I least expect to give me what I need are exactly the type of people I should be chasing after. Let's call this the Librarian Vs. Model test.
You got the model who is known as the physically sexy one with make up on and can make the bulge in your pants get larger within the minute. Then, things get kind of boring, and you find that no matter how good you think she looks or how good you think the sex is, one of you starts to notice that your admiration for each other means nothing. You look together and find all you like or know about them is that they are goodlooking, have a nice balance in life, and probably gives good sex. It's like opening up an extraordinarily wrapped box expecting something wonderful inside, and finding a Fig Newton.
Then, you have the librarian.
The librarian, at first view, seems kind of quiet and boring. No one knows a thing about her, other than the fact that she seems meek and ordinary. If she wears makeup, its probably only enough to get her through the day.
But suppose you guys went out on a date together, you will find that the ones you don't expect to like are pretty extraordinary people. Whether she has a great sense of humor, is pretty intelligent, or whatever... the ones you overlook sometimes are the ones with more substance than just what she has. The more time you spend with her, the more she appears more and more attractive to you. What keeps the librarian so fresh is that from the get go, she was the type of girl capable of throwing you a curve, whereas the one with the model tends to tire out, because she was initially everything you thought you wanted.
The more you realize this, the more the whole personality situation really starts to click.
I have dated women who seem kind of average and overlooked, and found that despite how weird they might seem, they are actually the exact type of women I have been looking for all along.
What do you think of the Librarian vs. Model test?

Urghghg. Ever been to NYC? Beautiful, amazing talented women everywhere. Also... it's easy to find ugly boring people too. Its the interesting beautiful ones that are fun to conquer- and the most worthwhile. Thanks for standing up for plane Jane I suppose.
I could hug you for this post.
THe librarian is best for you.dont you think?
I think there are WAY more "ordinary" librarians than there are "pretty extraordinary" librarians.
Also, this heavenly is subjective to your prototype of such women.
@nariah5@xanga - @vballer1410@xanga - Keep in mind of model and librarian being a metaphor for the act of judging a book by its cover.
yup, couldn't find the girl version but basically this
it is all about what you need though"What keeps the librarian so fresh is that from the get go, she was the
type of girl capable of throwing you a curve, whereas the one with the
model tends to tire out, because she was initially everything you
thought you wanted."
^
Is very true.
I love this. I like to think of myself as a model and librarian. I may not be super-model thing, but I love my curves, my eyes, and so on...and I know I'm smart and I love to learn more. Others may not view me as both, but I know I sure do and some men in my life have....just like my current boyfriend. It's amazing.
Awesome post btw.
@Salivarysatisfaction - I am heading to NYC in the morning for 1 week! ;)
I like the metaphor alot. It's good one and quite true.
I can see this to an extent. But I think that there are very very pretty girls who are not vapid creatures. They are intelligent, too. And there are those who are average, like a librarian, who are not very interesting on the inside or the outside.
But I love this post. Thank you so much! I also think it goes both ways - my husband wasn't someone I normally would have gone for, but I'm so glad that I did. :)
find a balance
i like fig newtons. i think they're yummy! (the actual food)
@lenybobsyouruncle@xanga - LoL! That was awesome! I want an asshole!
@Salivarysatisfaction - LoL! I agree with you!
Completely agree with this post :)
I'm probably much like a librarian. I spent so much time in the library as a kid (and even now), I probably know the Dewey decimal system as well as the librarians by now. I did volunteer at a library for a summer, but it really isn't much of a place for picking up men... because very few men actually wander into one. Well, not men my age.
quite interesting. but i do agree =)
intelligence is sexy :)
going back to that whole looks v.s personality thing again, I guess?
I agree with your post, because it pretty much go through how looks aren't EVERYTHING. I think we all read about that enough, haha.
But hey, why must each be on extreme ends? What about the best of both worlds, looks with a kickass personality.. no one ever mentions that *shrugs. Maybe "hard" to find but not impossible.
It's easy to stereotype. Maybe you should have called this one Easy VS Intregue.
I'd go for the model looking librarian. I won't lie, I'm a pretty shallow person. If she isn't "hot", I am not interested whatsoever. I wouldn't date a good looking girl with no personality though.
@lenybobsyouruncle@xanga - I definitely fall under the asshole category haha.
Given I was a librarian for 5 years, this post made me laugh more than anything.
Sure, some of us may seem plain, but you've evidently not been to a library where the staff are model material. I've worked with some gorgeous women.
Believe it or not, brains and beauty can coincide.
Good post all the same.
Cheers,
Taylor
Thanks to posts like this, we have some sort of retarded stereotype that states all hot women are dumb, all ugly women have a shining personality, and everyone else is probably just kind of boring (because if you're not ugly, you can't be smart!)
Jesus.
@Shy___Away@xanga - Did I really say something about models being dumb? If I did, blame Lovelyish.
But really, look, I'm not Alex Hitch. Cut me a break. All this is trying to say is that if you are trying to find what you need, sometimes, you are likely to find it where you least expect it. So, sometimes, it would behoove you to try that route as well.
GO FOR THE HOT LIBRARIAN WOOOOOO ;)
