My First Kiss Wasn't Special
Q. I got my first kiss today. Like many girls, I've been dreaming of this day for a long time. I thought it would be so special. But now that its happened, I don't feel any different. It's not that I didn't like it exactly, it just wasn't as great as I was expecting. I still like the guy though. .. Maybe my expectations were just too high?
What do you think? Has anything like that ever happened to you?
A. It's okay that you're first kiss didn't live up to your expectations--they often don't. Sometimes when we build something up so much in our heads, it's hard for it to live up to our fantasy in real life. I'm sure it was just a combination of nerves and inexperience that made it somewhat underwhelming. Kisses definitely get better with time and practice. My advice is keeping hanging out with this guy and keep kissing him--use minimal tongue, take it slow, avoid being sloppy and it should be better next time. You could also try building up to a kiss by starting off with a few Eskimo kisses and then slowly easing into a real kiss (it can be very romantic).

Don't worry about it. My first kiss was nothing special. We kissed. I was too nervous. There was too much pressure, and for some reason....He and I didn't stop walking. We walked into a bush.hahaha
My first kiss with my boyfriend now was so much better. The fireworks were there. :)
My first kiss wasn't what I expected either, don't worry!
I still loved it even if it wasn't as exciting as I thought though, haha.
The make out session on the other hand... that was exciting.
My first official kiss was w my puppy love and because I initiated it, it wasn't that special to me.
My first kiss could've been better as well. It was with my date at homecoming dance sophomore year of high school and it just teemed of awkwardness and inexperience. All the subsequent kisses from then on were much better, though :)
My first kiss wasn't anything special, either...I was in a beautiful foreign city and I was all excited about being there with him...but all I could think was "it's wet!"
I haven't had mine yet. Never had high hopes for it tho...
Mine was very memorable and amazing. I'm probably and outlier in this.
Aw yeah I've heard that about first kisses from both guys and girls...But it should get better. :]
My first kiss was special though. I didn't really kiss back (he surprised me!). The grass was cold and wet. Both our lips were dry from an entire day spent out on a track.
But looking back, I wouldn't change a thing.
Honestly, people need to grow the fuck up. Real life will NEVER be like a movie, or tv sitcom. Almost always, first times will be awkward, weird, and off-balance. That's how you bloody learn things. If everything was perfect the first time, there'd never be progress, or actual education. No one would learn a damn thing.
During my first kiss the guy shoved his tounge down my throat...
@thisxemergencyx@xanga - Ugh! Tongue should never be used in a first kiss... I'm sorry...
My first kiss wasn't anything special either. I mean, it surprised me and I got warm butterflies in my stomach, but it wasn't a movie moment. It was real life.
Eh. I've seen teeny bopper magazine feature celebrities talk about these types of scenarios. Apparently Orlando Bloom didn't know what to do with his teeth...
Mine was very enjoyable. But with a scum bag guy.
o man. I am sooo gonna make you feel better about yourself right now girl!
my first kiss was when i was 15 at a college party. i just sat for a second on a couch. some frat boy who was sitting next to me just started kissing me after i talked to him for like 5 minutes.
i wont even recognize the guy if i see him somewhere in my life again lol
yeh THATS a bad first kiss story. at least i can laugh about it now
@NANSOO@xanga - i am the exact same way. i only remember my GREAT kisses
Mine was with my first boyfriend, who I felt just "ok" about. It was just too much to tongue and slobber and I was left feeling more grossed out than anything. We didn't kiss much after that and the relationship didn't last long. Now, my first kiss with the man who became my husband...that was a really, really good kiss.
i think a lot of first kisses don't turn out to be special. my first kiss sucked, i didn't know what i was supposed to do with my lips and neither did he.
Haha, I want to forget my first kiss!
@xmush@xanga - Haha, so do I. My first kiss sucked.. *Shakes head* :P
@MiaJoyTheWriter@xanga - LOL yea I felt the same way, I was so happy though.
Haha, don't worry, on average first kisses aren't poised to be all that super great.
We're all such amateurs when it happens, after all!
Mine definitely wasn't brag-worthy. I could tell the guy I was with really wanted to kiss me and I was pretty nervous about it. (Quite nearly paranoid, actually.) In all honestly, I wasn't even sure how I felt about him! But he was so into me and such a nice guy that I just let him do it, and... it was blah. I soooo did not know what I was doing, and felt like a fool during. On top of that, I wasn't the one who actually really wanted to kiss! So, in this way, I kinda feel like my first kiss was wasted, but what can you do. Oh well.
@thisxemergencyx@xanga - Aw lol! At least you were happy. That's all that counts. :)
Man, you were disappointed in your first kiss? Wow, just wait till you get to sex. What a let down that's gonna be.... lol.
Seriously though, people put wayyyyyyyy too much stock in "firsts" of any kind. Your first kiss is never your best, neither is the first time you have sex, or the first time you do anything. There's a reason why they say experience is the best way to learn... because things get BETTER OVER TIME. Don't worry, your first kiss may not have been the epic Disney moment with fireworks and all that you thought it would be, but the later ones will be better.
I'd say my first kiss was special, but the boy it was with certainly wasn't. Two seconds after he kissed me, he said I was the most obnoxious girl he'd ever known. Then he asked me to be his girlfriend. It was a magical three weeks, our relationship...yeah.
@thisxemergencyx@xanga - lol... same here.
