My friend invited me to a meet and mingle holiday bash he's throwing and told me to invite as many people as I like, but the only requirement is that we have to wear either a red, yellow or green top. Why you ask?
Because Red signifies you're taken and like a stop light to warn off unwanted approaches. Yellow means to approach with caution because your status is complicated. Green obviously means you're free and single and approachable. This applies to both sex. I thought he was kidding at first but he was dead serious. He thinks it'll be a great ice breaker and avoid awkward rejections. I thought it might make people feel less comfortable and singled out. If you choose to wear yellow because that is what your life is, complicated, do you really want a whole bunch of strangers knowing that?
So what do you think? A great idea or a stupid idea?

these parties pop up a lot around valentine's day. i don't think it's a big deal, lol. all in good fun.
I don't think it's a big deal. And I guess people could lie and wear the wrong color or whatever, but eh, it seems like a fun idea anyhow.
That actually sounds like a really interesting idea!
Well, its not like people are going to be telling the truth all the time at those parties, so it doesn't quite matter.
I didn't know the concept was so unheard of.
I've heard of parties like this plenty of times before, they're popular around here, espicially around touchy-feely holidays.
I love these parties! There's a bunch of different themes for colors at a lot of college parties...white out highlighter parties (people draw on you), heaven and hell parties, the seven deadly sins...the list goes on.
That's a good idea, if you're into that. You don't HAVE to show off your status. You should wear all three to throw people off. hahaha
Interesting, but I would just rather have people come and get to know me and then my status - not having it label on the color of my shirt that I'm wearing.
It's good to be informed of someone's relationship status. It's a vague idea of someone's situation and not an explicit billboard.
This is a common concept. If you want to stay anonymous just wear black.
haha, I think its cute.
i'ma wear grey or some shit and throw people off. shaaa
Cant they be more creative and pick something other than stoplight colors?
i've heard of these parties several times. I've heard the yellow of not meaning 'complicated' so much, 'i'm sort of in between.' Green is also much more open, basically says 'i want to go home with someone tonight.'
This is all over every college campus... it's more relevant for college anyway.
give me the greeeen lightt
give me just onee nightt~
hehe. Does it mean anything if I have a ton of green shirts and no red/yellow shirts?
Lol we had this as a spirit day at my high school. Some people changed their shirts throughout the day, some wore combos of all colors. And, as with other school spirit related things, no one really gave a crap.
I think its a great idea and passed the idea on to one of my frat friends.
@notamanduh - <3 that song. you get special props for being the first person i've "met" who knows it =)
Interesting lol never heard of anything like this but I guess it's creative and somewhat effective. Except for if anyone lies about their relationship status and wears a different color. Then it would be pointless. But besides that, I get it.
We did this is high school. We had a day when all the senior got to do this. I wore green and member later that day regretting wearing it because a good friend of mine tried to make a pass. I think it's an awesome idea. But you know half of the people are gonna be lying.
haha i think that's hilarious
it's really not a big deal. i like them, it's a fun idea.
cute and interesting
if the person is taken, then why would he/she go to a meet and mingle holiday bash
red means open minded cheater
yellow means a tease
green means ready to talk to everyone
