  • I Work Out to Look Good in Bed

I meant to write about this topic a while ago, and I forgot. But rethinking about the matter got me angry all over again!

I was out with my girlfriends a few months ago and we were all talking about our work out routines. Most of the girls did the same things, excessively too. I felt kind of bad that I didn't work out as much as them. One of my friends, we'll call her "D" asked, "Why do you work out Abigail?"

My answer...to feel better. I have way more energy, I feel better about myself inside and out. I know that it's a good thing for my health. Plus it's an excuse to listen to music and catch up with Cosmo and Glamor for an hour every night.

I thought my answer was going to be just like everyone else's. I was mistaken. My group of friends all kind of just looked at each other.

"What? Isn't that why you all work out? To make yourself feel good."

My very out spoken friend laughed and responded. "NO! Hell, the only reason I work out is so I can look good in the sack!" Every girl laughed, but agreed with her. They all worked out for the same reason. To have a sexy body so they look good while they're having sex. Mind you, these are all the same girls who don't have steady relationships and tend to sleep around.

I wasn't sure if I should feel stupid that I never thought about that, or feel better about myself that I work out to feel good for me, not so that my boyfriend thinks I look hot. (Although I do want him to think I look hot.)

It seemed like an oxymoron to me. Working out and eating healthy is to make you healthy. Yet, your doing this to look good while you have sex, and these girls don't use the best kinds of protection (i.e. pull out method) with men they barely know...

Does the real world really think this way?

I think that most people look at working out like you all do. A balance of, "I want to be healthy and I wan't to look great." But over all, I'm thinking that most of the reasons people work out is to look good. Health doesn't seem to be as important as it should be.

uh wow. I mean that's totally a bonus but like... I exercise because if I don't expend enough energy in a day I don't sleep. and because it makes me feel better about myself and the way I look all around.

then again I'm in a long term committed relationship and don't whore around...

  • CapsizedHearts@xanga

haha interesting. its a personal choice.

  • phan__tom@xanga

I work out to look good.
It's shallow, but it's the real reason..
Honestly, if working out didn't keep me in shape but still gave me health benefits that I can't even see, I wouldn't still work out.

  • naguyin@xanga

    >_> ... uh *raises hand*

Plus, in thinking like this, I'll always have a motivation to work out. Healthy and there's a "perk". Don't judge me! >_

Ummm, Yes, the real world does think this way.  Exercise and eating right have many benefits in bed.  Not only looking hot in bed (whether you are in a long term relationship or not) but also performance enhancing.

  • Camouflaged_by_night@xanga

I work out to look good and be healthier. You're not alone.

  • Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga

That's a plus, but the main motivation should be health. Good for you!

  • BlehhItsTu@xanga

Yeah, you're the right one. To look good while having sex.. probably shouldn't be the main reason you want a good body :]

  • heidi_teamaster@xanga

That doesn't really make sense to me.  If you were "hooking up" with a guy already, and there were no strings attached don't you think his choice to do so with you would have been on the fact that you are "hot" to begin with.

    Just saying.

My boyfriend loves my love handles more than I do. XD

  • oO_km_Oo@xanga

I'd want to be working out to look good all the time - not only in bed!!

  • msnatalie27@xanga

They're kinda of connected... attractive people are usually considered to be healthy people (from an evolutionary perspective), but I agree they seem to have it backwards. I admit I work out to be healthy but a big motivation is *also* that a side effect is looking good, its just an extra motivation... plus looking good is part of "feeling" good.

Obviously, being healthy involves much more though (including right diet) and should be considered first and foremost.

  • koreentaylor@xanga

The top priorty for working out should be to be healthy and feel good about yourself. I love working out because it's like my own anti-depressant. I'm an all-around happier person when I go to the gym a few times every week. I feel more confident and beautiful, also. But, as most people said, the whole sex thing is a motivation, one of the "perks." Exercising makes you tighter, therefore enhancing sex, and also makes your body fitter. But that should not be someone's only reason for working out!

What's wrong with working out for looks? Who says that you should workout just to feel better about yourself?

  • wyrdkismet@xanga

Guys who go to the weight room: to look hot in bed. Guys who play basketball: to exercise and get endorphins. Which one do you prefer?

  • ElusiveSecrets@xanga

Wait, who doesn't work out to look good?
I mean, I don't work out to look good only in a bed, but good in general.
    Everyone wants to look good.

  • anemonix@xanga

I totally agree with your point of view. Working out can help boost a person's confidence and make them feel very lively, I mean, I don't necessarily work-out, just do a few stretches every now and then when my body aches or to shoo away the sleepiness, but just that can cheer me up. =) But bottom line, it helps you feel good about yourself, and it helps give a good first impression about you to other people.

  • superGchik@xanga

i do the same thing too...why not?  i want him to want me and only me so i have to at least look hot right?

  • may16abby@xanga

@wyrdkismet@xanga - My boyfriend lifts weights, and plays basketball...to stay healthy, to keep occupied...not just so I think he's got a nice body. He knows, any shape way or form he is, I'll love him and think he's the hottest man ever.

@vietstud101@xanga - I'm not saying it's NOT for looks...I'm saying, for me, it's to feel good about myself and to please myself.

@ElusiveSecrets@xanga - Yes, we all want to look good. I agree. But my point wasn't about looking good. It was about ignorant girls who think the only reason to work out is to look good for some random guy who doesn't give two shits about them.

    @anemonix@xanga - YES! Thank you! I agree!

@mewithoutu77@xanga - Wrong. If he actually loves you, he's going to be with you no matter what you look like. My boyfriends been with me and I've taken many forms.  He just wants me healthy and happy. I've learned that if a guy just wants you only for what you look like...he isn't much of a man.

  • may16abby@xanga

@phan__tom@xanga - I'd still work out, but I deffinitly wouldn't do it as much, and I can see reeses peanut butter cups in my diet daily! but i'd still work out weekly to have energy and pass time.

  • philanthropic_sinner@xanga

Yeah I was thinking about this today! I do notice that the two relate to each other. If I don't feel good about my body I am not willing do get intimate.. Kind of just ashamed of my body I guess, but my bf finds ways to get me feeling good, I guess, what I mean is it's like exercisign is a plus. Or perhaps get a workout by having sex!! haha

  • superGchik@xanga

@may16abby@xanga - it's not only for him.  i do it mostly for me but if it's going to boost it up in the bedroom, of course i would do that.

  • Shy___Away@xanga

Yeah, I work out so that when we're having sex I don't feel gross with my tummy flapping around all over the place.
