Have you fallen victim to the Turkey Drop?
NPR defines the
Turkey Drop as "that holiday breakup season where all the college students return home for their first major vacation, and everyone breaks up." I guess I can see how that would be. You have spent the past three months living the independent life and you're ready to shed all the last remnants of your old self in order to make room for the new. And by new, I mean all the older college guys and girls that are at your disposal.
Even adults are at risk for the dreaded Turkey Drop.
Thanksgiving is a precursor to the long holiday haul. Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day. These are all highly romantic holidays if you ask me. With the upcoming months looming, Thanksgiving seems to be the perfect time to cut your loved one loose before you have to start considering dinner reservations, romantic gestures and presents.
Have you been Turkey-dropped this holiday season?

Well, it could also be the fact that with the holidays comes a lot of stress. Maybe the stress is too much for a lot of people and many relationships are damaged as a result. Kind of sad though. Holidays should be happy and fattening, not depressing...and fattening.
No but my roommate back in college did. She went home to visit her boyfriend on V-day and got dumped while staying with him. That was harsh!
As a matter of fact... I recently ended a relationship, with the guy I thought I was going to marry, when I found out that he had not only cheated on me but also had been doing drugs for a long time. So ... considering we just had Thanksgiving, I think this would be considered a "Turkey Drop." Nice way to start the holiday season, eh?
Heard of this before. Unfortunately for us Canadians, it happens around the early-mid week of October.
The complete opposite happened with me..My boyfriend proposed on the 19th.
I've never heard that breaking up with someone right before the holidays is a common time..
Haha this is funny I saw that happen a lot back in my freshman year, especially with guys dating girls still in high school.
Actually a guy I was dating and I just Turkey Dropped each other... had nothing to do with the holidays though (I don't think! At least not on my part). Oh well it seems like the holidays are better spent with people you know will ALWAYS care about you, so unless it's a very serious relationship, I think I'd rather be single than wasting the holidays on a flavor of the moment. If only I could have convinced myself of that in high school! :)
I love that there is a name for this sort of thing. =]
@xSerendipity713x@xanga - WOW. I wish the best for you.
Nope, I wasn't Turkey Dropped. :)
Wow, that's pretty messed up. Luckily for me, this time of year usually brings me closer to the person I'm dating. My boyfriend has already started being extra romantic lately. =]
I.. didn't know such a thing existed. O.O;;
i'm actually about to turkey-drop.
I turkey dropped someone, but it was before Thanksgiving.
Hilarious.
This just happend to me.
I love that there's an actual name for it.
Haha never heard of this. Guess they don't want to be tied down.
I've been seeing it. A few of my friends broke up with their SO's (in fact, one broke it off with his gf today but that's to be expected with him)...it's weird.
My bf and I are soulmates so nothing will keep us apart. Our friends have all gotten together and broken up recently and we've stayed golden through it all.
Valentines day is not a holiday. At least to me it isn't.
Awhile ago I was dumped the day before Christmas. After I went to the trouble to get her gifts and shit too.
That was a very, merry christmas... And on Christmas day I argued all day!
This is why I hate this time of year. -____-.
i have been the one to drop the turkey. hahaha
No, my beau and I are going strong.
i got dumped on v-day one year...
i can see why this would be the higher occasion though, for college freshman/old relationships. the name is funny
I've done it. I wasn't that serious, and he kept talking about spending the holidays together when I wanted to spend them with my family. So I broke it off.
For some strange reason, I was always dropped within a week before Valentines Day. Makes sense to me I guess, if they had been planning on leaving me for some significant amount of time. No need in wasting that holiday to leave me the next day. Now I look bad and laugh at those guys because I don't have feelings left for them anymore, so in a way it's just funny to me. I probably would have done the same thing.
@salvatruca_stalking_havok13@xanga - There is just no way to avoid the fat, is there?
I haven't been Turkey Dropped, but I think it's perfectly reasonable!
Pretty much sums up my holiday season this year...
