Star Signs: Pathetically Accurate or Just Pathetic?
I've always been a curious, inquisitive person. As long as I can remember all things falling within the realm of the 'mystical' have appealed to me. These included astrology, palm reading and fortune telling. Yes one may discard such things as pure rubbish and nonsense. Well, I didn't. When I was younger I took them rather seriously and became well informed on zodiac signs (not horoscopes per se) and tarot cards. I actually owned a pack at some point and began reading cards for friends. To my amazement some of my 'predictions' actually happened. Creepy. And when I'd have my eye on a guy I was interested in I'd look up their 'sign' to see if he and I were compatible. Ahhh, if we were astrologically compatible than that would be a plus point, so I thought. How pathetic is that???!!!
Ok bear with me for a while - this is supposed to be an amusing post.
Now. let's see, moi, a Pisces born on the 10th of March 'should' be, as any informed astrologer would tell you, compatible with other 'water' signs - those being Cancer and Scorpio. If my memory serves me well, I went out with two Scorpios in a row. To get the drift of what I mean here is a 'typical' analysis of the Piscean Woman - Scorpio Man love relationship. This is tied with Cancer as your number-one soulmate love match. Pisces girls and Scorpio boys are often drawn together, because your physical chemistry is so sizzling hot! This means kissing him will be completely dreamy. The two of you will also share a very special and intimate bond. You "connect" in a way that few other combinations of signs can. It’s almost an unspoken thing where you feel what each other is feeling, and you know what the other is thinking without them having to explain. This match will make you feel romantic and passionate and his strong and loyal nature will give you the security and grounded-ness that you need. An out-of-this-world soulmate match. Oh, the stars were on 'my' side. So, what could possibly go wrong with that? Well, just about everything. One left for the USA with my help in search of the 'American Dream' and eventually told me that our long distance relationship wasn't working and if I loved him I would have to wait - indefinitely. I shed a few tears that summer, got over him and never thought of or heard from him again. That is, until last year when E found me on facebook after 25 years, vowed undying love for me and consequently tried to rekindle our relationship. That's another story for another time. The other Scorpio turned out to be the biggest player and heartbreaker ever. Enough said about that one! As 'fate' would have it, both relationships failed miserably, and I vowed never to go out with a Scorpio again. Just mention that sign again and I run like a speed of lightning.
After crossing Scorpio's off my list of 'potential mates, the next obvious choice was Cancer. Well I eventually went out with one. When cupid struck his bow, the Pisces - Cancer relationship would look something like this:
The Pisces lady will melt in his warmth and he will drown himself in her considerable charms. One of the very best combinations. ( Source: AquarianAge Romance )
As you might have guessed by now this relationship didn't work either for many reasons. Without going into too many details let's just say that he could have easily played the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of OZ. I also have to clarify one point. You know what they say about women and PMS - well its not true. Think moody - think P.
Since Water signs didn't seem to work, at least not in my case, perhaps it was best to see how I'd fare with other astrological signs. My husband turned out to be a Sagittarius. That is a fire sign along with Leo and Aries. Hmmm well I was astrologically warned that Fire and Water don't mix. But who is to say? I mean this is just nonsense anyways. Then again as you can see:
This match might work for a weekend fling, but that’s about as long as it can last. The physical attraction between you two is definitely very strong, but you are just too different from each other to create a real relationship. ( Source: Jellybean's Astro-Soulmate Guide ).
Well at least it lasted more than a weekend :). But in all honesty no matter how hard one or the other or both of us tried it really didn't work. Rightly so, we were just too different and brought out the worst in each other. What were we thinking? So Sags were definitely off my list. What about Aries? I did go out with one long ago and I might include him in another post... but not today. That leaves Leo. Leos hmmm. What can I say? Well they're charming. What are some of their strong points? Zest for life, generosity, ability to organize and lead. Ok sounds interesting.
Hey, wait a minute my Dad was a Leo and I surely didn't get along with him. Hooking up with a Leo is surely asking for trouble isn't it? Then again it depends. You see I met the most wonderful Lion ever, so perhaps it depends on other aspects of our birth chart. I mean if, for instance, you have compatible moon signs or moon signs in each other's sun signs, well that might work. As it so happens, I'm a Piscean with a Leo Moon and the man I love is a Leo with a Pisces Moon. How freaky is that? Well if you take this into consideration, the fact that he was born on my Dad's birthday, and that I am not the first Miriam he's had a relationship with or gone out with than it's more than just sheer coincidence. Or is it? Hmmm you tell me!
What do you think about zodiac sign compatibility? Do you look up the sign of a guy or girl you like to see how well you match? Is it all a bunch of bull or is there some sliver of truth behind star signs?

It's called personal validation, confirmation bias, or selective thinking. Look it up.
Horoscopes are pathetic.
I'm aromantic AND asexual thereby making my astrology sign automatically invalid. (Leo's are passionate, my ass.) So yea, I do think astrology is a bunch of bull.
And just like the comment above me said: confirmation bias. People will go out of their way to assert a horoscope is true and ignore everything false about the horoscope.
Well, the girl I have a thing for has a sign that's not supposed to be compatible with mind, so I don't know. I attest to the idea of steering clear of Sagittarius, Leo, and Gemini women. (Leos and Scorpios staying separate from each other, in terms of love should be a rule of thumb for my love life.)
The whole moon thing is so confusing.
hmmm moons yeah well after sun signs, the most imp position is the sign in which your moon was located at the time of birth. moon signs have an imp bearing on personality and temperament. or so they say :)))
Hmmm, anyone know a site where I can look up where the moon was located at the time of birth?
It's good to believe in something but not to go fanatic without any real premise.
Some of it is true some of it isn't. I don't believe in the horoscopes but when it comes to starsign compatibility etc I find a little bit more accurate well in most of my experiences anyways.
I found this one of the links you gave about someone I was with at one point. I'm an Aries by the way.
You can find happiness with a Pisces for a while, but he’s not really your soulmate. It is easy for you two to be drawn together by the promise of romance. The Pisces boy can thrill you will his dreamy, mysterious nature and incredibly romantic soul. He will also be excited by you, because you inspire him to do things that he’s always wanted to do but was too shy to try. In 99 percent of cases, this relationship will ultimately fall victim to too many differences- you are just very different people with very different needs. But it can go along nicely for a while on chemistry and interest sparked by being with someone so strangely different than you.
100% true.
Although I find similar traits within my horoscope; I am skeptical of zodiacs signs.
My longest relationship was with a Virgo. Virgo and Taurus are supposed to be a good match, so I'm a believer.
Surprisingly accurate. I never even looked at zodiac crap until I was an adult. Coincidence? Probably.
I'm a Pisces also, and everything I've read up on astrology and how it relates to love and compatibility with other signs has been pretty accurate. I love astrology but I wouldn't take everything I've read too seriously. My current boyfriend is a Sagittarius who was born on the cusp of Capricorn. Supposedly Sagittarius and Pisces are not romantically compatible, but Pisces and Capricorn are. We've been together almost two years now and I never would have turned him down just because of his sign. I think it really depends on the person.
I don't really believe horoscopes, but I like reading them :D.
Supposedly my boyfriend and I are suppose to get along really well according to it ;o.
At first I started reading these just for fun, but they turned out to be *quite* accurate about most of my flings and anti-flings. What can I say? Now I am an *almost* believer :)
if horoscopes were pathetic (pathos), i'd feel inclined to indulge them. but they arn't, so i don't put up with them any more than people saying 'you have to be of a certain religion to date me'.
I find it difficult to believe that the date of your birth, the alignment of the stars, today's date, and your fate have anything to do with one another.
If you want to look for a "match," perhaps you should look to personality tests (e.g. Jung/Myers-Briggs test). Those results are more revealing; they will indicate who you are, and what type of person you should be dating. Those tests aren't perfect, but they'd certainly be more reliable.
I have a book called "Erotic Astrology." It shows you how to please a man by his star sign. ;)I also read my horoscope, and that of my SO.
But I don't believe that certains signs aren't compatible.
Do keep in mind, if you take into account astrology and compatibility, you can't just consider sun and moon placements. There is so much more to your charts.
The sun represents your core personality and the moon represents your inner feelings. Obviously, there's more to a person than that in general. There's thought process, approach to love, style of communication, etc. etc. In astrology, besides the sun and moon, you must consider your Mercury, Venus, Mars, and so on and so forth. Each planet/luminary (luminaries are just the sun and moon) has a purpose, and they play off of each other.
This is also why some people may not seem like their sun sign -- a Leo person who is anything but "passionate" or "aggressive." If that Leo had, lets say, Mars at a 90-degree angle from their sun, creating an "aspect" called a "square", you could say that Mars negates the Sun, thus making the Leo person NOT Leo. Make sense?
This is also why two astrologically incompatible people -- a Pisces and a Leo, for example -- might actually do well after all. If other aspects and planets are compatible, The Pisces/Leo couple should work out fine. :)
Oh course, the way I see it know is that zodiac signs are just a bit of fun. However, if you want to know more there are lots of sites where you can get your birth charts and full compatibility (composite charts) for you and your SO for free.
My dad recently became fascinated with astrology. He doesn't buy into the horoscopes or "pop astrology" that you find in magazines and newspapers, but he says if you really look into it, like at the charts and whatnot, it's strikingly accurate at times. I don't know if I believe it, but I guess anything is possible.
apparently i'm supposed to be all fiery and passionate and sex driven. (scorpio)
idk i'm pretty chill most the time.
Zodiac signs have been accurate in terms of compatibility for me at least. BUT are they accurate in every other way? Nope. We ultimately make our own decisions and if the zodiac disagrees, then who cares
im sort of a believer. i tend to date/have a lot of chemistry with a lot of leos and sagitariuses, both good matches for aries.
Wow. Weird because my bf and I are each other's star signs. I'm a Gemini with Aquarius Rising and he's an Aquarius with Gemini Rising.
well you might have to check ur mars sign (it's not so much with the sun sign). Mars in a woman's chart represents her potencial lover or mate. With a man's is different because it's his venus and the moon along with the 5th house(children) 7th house(spouse) and 8th house(sex). Maybe his venus is in an earth sign. Water and earth get along fine. That's peculiar that his moon is ur sun sign and ur sunsign is his moon sign. because it's funny the moon in a man's chart represents his future wife and in a woman's chart the sun represents his future husband.
