  • "Why Are We So Weird?"

Every relationship is different; no two couples are alike. For example: Your relationship with your ex and the dynamic the two of you had is going to be completely different from the relationship and dynamic between you and your current boy/girlfriend. Some aspects may be the same, your new partner may have a few similar qualities to your previous, but they're in no way the same person and therefore the bizarre quirks the two of you share are going to be entirely other.

What I mean by "bizarre quirks" are the funny, maybe even juvenile, little things that you and your SO do whether randomly or on a regular basis that sometimes makes you wonder Why are we so weird? Because, let's face it, is anyone really normal?

I don't know where one of mine and boyfriend's particular quirks came from or even how it developed, but we've done it for as long as we can remember, and I love it. Now, we're already awkward and goofy to begin with, we don't need any more quirks. Whenever my boyfriend and I have a conversation and we're just on our own, it never fails that I end up straddling him while his knees support my back and we just talk. There is nothing remotely sexual about it and it's honestly really comfortable.

Another of our "quirks" actually developed because he is currently in a different state for school and the only way we can see one another is over a video chat. Well, since we obviously can't physically kiss one another (which seriously sucks, anyone in a long distance relationship can attest to that), one day he just made two kissy noises at me one right after the other. And now it's not even for over the video chat, we'll actually do it when we see one another as well.

I guess the point of this post is to embrace the quirks/awkwardness of your relationship. They really do help you, in my opinion, to get the most out of your relationship. And they can be something silly that just you and your SO share because there's something wrong if you can't be silly with one another.

Do you have any quirks in your relationship? If so, what are they?

because we're humans =] btw if you're always weird, it would be weird if you were suddenly normal after being normally weird :D

  • shoujo@xanga

My hubby and I have a lot of quirks... but they are hard to explain because obviously, they only mean something to the two in the relationship. :)

  • snapeful@xanga

ahahaah i love seeing couples goof off! it's always necessary to laugh and be silly sometimes! :D

Yes. We threaten to pick each other's noses all the time. My profile picture on Facebook is me with the tip of my finger up his nose. He tried to wake me up by pretending to pick my nose. It's really charming, I know.

Also, we like to talk about each other in the third person.

Me: Hey. I like you. We should date.
Him: Yeah.. Well. I dunno. I'd have to ask my girlfriend.
Me: Oh. Well. I guess that's okay.
Him: She's pretty amazing, so I don't know if you'd be able to compare.
Me: Yeah? Well if she's amazing, then she'll understand if you and I start dating.
    etc.

We generally just talk about juvenile things like penises and boobs and booger and poop. It's really classy.

my boyfriend and i are so weird. we play wrestle in public, have tickle fights and are generally weird. its funny because when i first met him i wanted to make a totally cool impression on him, the older boy. now i find myself acting sooo weird and he just smiles and says "god you're cute". it's amazing.

  • morbidcoronerchick@xanga

LOL, me and my bf will stick our tongues out at each other at random. I usually start it after he's been staring into my eyes for a bit. Sometimes I even go "Pbbbthfff" with the tongue and he does it back

  • hushcenter@xanga

@irishgrrl690@xanga - holy crap. no lie, that's the exact quirks i was going to put down.

  • irishgrrl690@xanga

@aznkrnstr@xanga - Great couples love alike, eh? :)

"Whenever my boyfriend and I have a conversation and we're just on our own, it never fails that I end up straddling him" --all the time! haha

my bf and i are always goofy and make weird noises and we have a whole zombie/i'm gonna eat your brains joke thing...we're very odd. its fun. and its what i missed most when we were long distance

  • emotionalotaku@xanga

Well me and my best friend (we're really close, almost dating, but nothing official yet) anyways, well we're totally weird all the time, we're both art students, and generally have the crazy excentric qualities you might associate with artist/ art student

So 'normal' is actually what would be weird with us.

I guess you can sum it up like this; he basically tells me, that listening to me having an everyday conversation, that I should be an improve comedian or something, and well the same goes for him, just to a slightly lesser degree XD

  • MsKittyCatty@xanga

We whimper at eachother when we need something (actually, I did it a lot, then he picked it up, and now I hardly ever do it, lol. It's weird to have a guy whimper at you while holding a cup for you to fill with milk, lol).

I also ask him how much he loves me in fun ways. Ex:

"Do you love me more than flipflops?"

    "Yup"

    "More than toes?"

    "Yes."

    "More than peanuts?"

    "Maybe."

We also talk in third person:

Me: "Alyssa loves you. But she thinks you're a dork."

Him: "Yeah, Sean loves you too, and he is NOT a dork."

  • ElusiveSecrets@xanga

My girlfriend threatens to impale my butthole with her finger if I do something bad. :(

  • Katja88@xanga

@everyinchisbruised@xanga - We got dubbed the weirdest couple in his apartment after I wrestled my boyfriend to the floor of the kitchen (I think to keep him from licking my nose), and we do the tickle fights, too.

  • Katja88@xanga

    "We're all a little weird, and life's a little
weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with
ours, we join up with them in mutual weirdness and call it love
    ."

  • FreeeVerse@xanga

I think it's just a part of intimacy, which is good in any relationship.

  • xxsuga_sugaxx@xanga

my boyfriend hates it when i touch his nose. its from one of our insiders, haha! its hilarious. whenever he does something i don't like, i threaten to touch is nose. LOL! but then its fine if we Eskimo kiss. haha

that's just one on the top of my head right now though. (: there are SOOOO many more

  • UKNOW_me2@xanga

whenever were together walking down the street at night and it gets cold that i shiver a lot, he lets go of my hand and starts dancing/hopping around and stripping off his jacket for me while making stripping music from his mouth xD... its really cute/funny and embarrasing haha

  • haley1262@xanga

me and my boyfriend have so many
if you're around us, you'd be highly entertained.
    :P
i can't explain any of the stuff we do, it would be too many words :P

  • Insomnia_Pickles_XtraTomato@xanga

my bf always tries to stick his finger in my mouth when i yawn. he thinks its adorable when i burp up to 7 decibels, and always keeps me updated on his poop size. we spend our walks pointing out things that would make for good sturdy zombie weapons.

  • divinexsimplicity@xanga

<< We call each other Pikachu and Pichu. No one understands what we're saying.

  • Gorrific@xanga

My fiance and I have so many.  A few of my favorites are the frequent wrestling matches, the silly nicknames, the child voices at times, and sometimes we have this thing where I say "You know what I love about you?" and he says "What?" and I say "Everything." <3

  • feelslikejuly@xanga

I threaten to take away my boyfriend's manhood all the time if he makes me upset. We also have our own way of talking and making funny conversation...I just can't really explain how we do it though. I love relationship quirks <3

  • MistressAislin@xanga

Nick and I mew at each other.  It started when I was trying to get his attention, and he wasn't responding to his name.  So I mewed, and he mewed and turned and looked right at me.  Now we do it to get each other's attention, or for no reason at all to each other.  My kids have picked it up and will mew back.

We also talk to each other in pieces of other languages.  Random words here and there.

I know how to say I love you in 7 different languages. :P

We also used to bath together, in the dark, and I'd just lie in his arms.  I cannot tell you the number of times we'd fallen asleep like that.

  • godofthelost@xanga

@irishgrrl690@xanga - hahah yep!  I don't know how I could live without those things!

  • stardustskye@xanga

Haha, my boyfriend and I love to portray the "I AM MAN DO MY BIDDING" relationship, especially out in public. it'll go something like this:

    Boyfriend: Dammit, I'm hungry!
Me: Sorry, I should've made you a sammich...
Boyfriend: Damn right you should've. What were you doing in the kitchen all day? NOTHING?
Me: Well, I have to clean house, take care of the kids, look after the pets--
Boyfriend: WOMAN. ARE YOU SASSING ME?
Me: No! No! I'm sorry.... I need to learn my place, huh?
Boyfriend: It's okay, I'll forgive you this time.

    xD

We have a lot more "quirks", but that's the easiest one to explain haha.

    • About Me: who has ever killed an hour? not casualy or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. the violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish. you kill the hour. you do not work, you do not read, you do not daydream. if you sleep its not because you need to sleep. and when at last it is over, there is no evidence:no weapon, no blood, and no body. the only clue might be the shadows beneath your eyes or a terribly thin line near the corner of your mouth indicating somthing has been suffered, that in the privacy of your life you have lost somthing and the loss is to empty to share.
