You might be using your cell phone to make your Saturday date night plans, but it's your cell phone that is dictating your love life. At least if you're an iPhone user.
According to
research done by Retrevo, iPhone users have specific dating habits that revolve around... well their love of technology. How geeky is that? Retrevo asked, "What makes a person most attractive to you?" iPhone owners prefered cool gadgets over a college degree three to one.
- One in three iPhone owners has texted or emailed their significant other to break up.- One in three iPhone owners say that, if their partner had out-of-date gadgets, it would be a turnoff.- One in five iPhone owners admits to frequently watching “adult material” on their iPhones. (Twice as many as BlackBerry owners).- One in four iPhone users has broken up with their partner because that person spent too much time on their mobile device.Seriously? I may have been secretly loathing those iPhone users as I not-so-patiently wait for my Blackberry to load, but now I have good reason to despise them. It looks like we are one-step closer to technology ruling the world. It seems it's already taken over the dating world.
Thoughts on this research? Are iPhone users really that hung up on gadgets?

We focus too much on technology these days; we've forgotten what it means to really be attracted to someone for who they are. Meh.
Apple blows. End of story.
I don't use my cell phone very often, it is not best means of communication.
I don't even know how use a cell phone.
stop conforming to the nonconformists. you know you're secretely jealous for those that have the power of the iPhone in their hands.
iphone's are for kids. BLACKBERRY BOLD 9700 IS FINALLY OUT! lol
i see the whole article about gadgets and new tech like i see dating online. i think it's basically the same thing. i don't agree with online dating and i think you miss out on the whole experience.
I love my iPhone and no, its not for kids. And no, I don't use it for any of the reasons listed in the blog.
this is ridiculous. i have an iphone and i love it. i dont care what other people have for phones and i certainly dont let my iphone rule my life haha.
Ew. Your iPhone has a smudge on it. I want to break up.
I don't have an iphone but I do communicate with friends over texts more so than to speak to them. It's easier and faster to get a direct response without trying to make conversations to be polite. But if I am talking to someone, we do text during the day and talk when our minutes are free so we won't end up with a big phone bill at the end of the billing period.
I'm sure iPhone users are not the only people to have broken up over email/text, and even if they did it's not definitely because they're addicted to technology. The only time I did that was over 10 years ago when I wasn't brave enough to do it in person. You should always take research stats with a grain of salt. They never take into consideration every possible factor. Besides, what makes these traits specific to iPhone users? Logically, they should apply to anyone who has a multimedia phone.
I don't have an iPhone or a blackberry and I don't want either. I have an iPod Touch, though.
I own an iPhone, I'm on it when I'm bored, but it doesnt dictate my life. I think this was a rash "study", and quite frankly I'm tired of seeing trivial "studies" like these. These researchers honestly have nothing better to do? btw, I'd date a girl even if she still had a Zach Morris phone, a pager even. As long as I'd be able to contact her is all that matters.
@xiaosnowtenshi@xanga - thanks and I agree with you 100%.
I'm an iPhone owner and I admit loving the convenience at the tip of my fingers but I haven't done any of the things listed in the post above. I think it's all about the individual and they can act that way even if they're not an iphone user.
I believe it... And I don't give a fiddler's dick if they find my Sony Ericcson as a turnoff... I probably find their elitist, Apple fanboy-type attitude as a huge turn-off as well.
I definitely see it... Although I've never looked at it from a dating perspective before.
lololo. thats ridiculous.
The more and more I see studies like this that relate to technology and relationships, the more and more cyberpsychology interests me. This seriously fascinates me.
I use an iPhone. None of the above generalizations apply to me...
That's stupid.
- One in three iPhone owners has texted or emailed their significant other to break up.
You don't need an iPhone to be a pussy.
- One in three iPhone owners say that, if their partner had out-of-date gadgets, it would be a turnoff.
My boyfriend doesn't even own a laptop and still uses a razor

One in five iPhone owners admits to frequently watching “adult
material” on their iPhones. (Twice as many as BlackBerry owners).
The internet is faster on a computer. Bigger screen on a TV. An iPhone seems like it's not the number one place to get your jollies.
- One in four iPhone users has broken up with their partner because that person spent too much time on their mobile device.
So then it's not the iPhone ruining relationships, it's the other mobile device of their partner that doesn't give them enough attention to satisfy them?!
I'm going to get one so I can do all of the above!
I have an IPhone and none of those apply to me.
This was stupid.
@lot223@xanga - hahaha i was gonna say to you blackberry user.
i don't even own an ipod. actually, i rather despise apple (at least i think that's the company that makes these, right?!) because their stuff is ridiculously overpriced. i also dislike its college fans; how the hell is a poor-ass college student able to afford a mac when they proclaim on facebook how much books cost?
What kind of stupid study is this? Unless they make a comparative study to regular cell phone users, all these statistics (adult viewing aside) could easily apply to anyone who texts. -___-
Truly, I think people who hate on iPhones and Apple are the true elitists. I don't see half as many people proclaiming how wonderful they are because of their Apple technology as I see people bitching about how "elitist" all Apple users are.
Go love your Blackberry/PC, and leave me alone. -___-
