Do Some People Go Too Far on Facebook?
I logged into my newsfeed today and saw one of the best things I have read all week:
I wondered for a moment if she meant he'd slept with a slut ("the village bike") or an actual 17-year-old cycle. I imagine that both would be rusty, awkward experiences with the promise of infection afterward. But whatever floats your boat, yo!
Anyway, myself, the girl who wrote this, and the girl she wrote it to, have around 110 mutual friends. So it's likely that 110 other people woke up to discover this information on their homepage this morning.
I'm not sure it's the kind of information I'd want AT LEAST 110 people to discover about my life. But that is because I'm more NORMAL than I let on.
It is also pretty tragic that this girl, who to all intents and purposes is probably going through a painful crisis: the realization that her ex of 2 years has got intimate with a hussy just hours after them spitting up, and that now myself, 110 people on Facebook, and many more people on HERE are now giggling over their cornflakes at her shameless candor.
Suddenly it is not her free-wheeling ex (excuse the pun!) that is up for judgment. But it is her.
My girlfriend also saw it on her newsfeed and immediately text me the message: "HAHAHA! Did you see what ******* has written on ******'s wall!? Funny as f***!" So I know I'm not the only one cruelly laughing like a jackal.
It is a personal conviction of mine, that if you want to be taken seriously you must never take yourself seriously. This involves NEVER writing exactly what your ex has done all over the internet.
So, WHY do people do it? Why do certain members of our Facebook friends feel the need to broadcast their own sorry denouements to everyone they know IRL?
And here's the contradiction: Why do I find it OK to expose myself in such ways to strangers on the internet via a blog, but I laugh for hours at those whom do it to those they know via facebook? ;D
But anyway. Back to today's question: Do you think that some people go too far on facebook? Are you guilty of it yourself? What is crossing the line when it comes to divulging information on facebook? What is the BEST thing in terms of making you think "I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT YOU!" that you've ever seen on there?
And just for good measure, here is another cracker that I had to screen cap and save in my "Funny things!" file:
Is there really a need? Embarrassing people like that make me glad I woke up.

I love facebook, but some people go wayyy too far.
HAHAHA! Some people just need attention. Let them have it they way they want. Just don't go posting pictures of yourselves that are meant for ONLY you.
uh too far! LOL
i had to read this like 5 times over to understand what was happening in the beginning...Â
I think a lot of the time, messages that expose what an ex is doing are meant to be a form of revenge. Childish? Yeah, but for some people, maybe that's their way of saving face after a humiliating experience.
As for the last status..."inappropriate" updates happened all the time in my sorority house when people left their Facebook page up. People would come in to their rooms and mess with their status updates. Not long after there would be an update from the person whose status got hacked: "That last status was a fake. Janie was drunk and thought it would be funny." Or something like that. 9 times out of 10, I don't buy it
I loved the last sentence (: veryy true.

I wish facebook hadthe privacy it used to have. Seriously this new facebook should tone it down a notch with newsfeed. I don't need to know who did who when I first log on.
It's because they're stupid.
@snapeful@xanga - Ehh I just gave up trying to understand the lingo.
Yeah that's a little much.
@AznFier@xanga - those darn british people!! jk i<3brit ppl.
its stupid
People are ridiculous. People who are entirely open about their sex life, don't have one. OR are just sluts, who want attention because their mommys and daddys didn't provide that for them when they were younger. There's a chick at my school who's like yeah.... I've slept with 46 guys, and so and so was the 46th. Wow. YOU WHORE. Stop spreading diseases and talking about you getting clamydia and herpes. I mean, which she obviously has after screwing 46 people. But, like I give a shit. I hate whores. and people who talk about sex too much. Yes Yes, it's a beautiful thing, yes yes it feels great.... Us sexually active people ALREADY know. come on now.
Thanks for posting this! :)
LOL...
HAHAHa. omg a lot of people go too far. its actually really entertaining.
Sometimes when I log on, I'm just overwhelmed with everyone's updates and comments. I find some pretty... um... interesting ones, too. lol
That's why I'm careful about what I put on my facebook. =/
lmao, this one girl posted on her status that she just wanted to get drunk and get laid on her birthday. her father responded with "getting drunk and getting laid - mature words a father likes to hear from his child.
she has her whole family on facebook.
i mean i feel like that sometimes when it's my birthday but that crap i think is too personal, lmfao.
what people hate about facebook

I absolutely hate it when people write personal stuff on their friend's wall. I think it's really tacky, and everytime I see it I just have to ask, Why? I can't understand why people are okay with information like this being publicly accessible, it truly boggles my mind.
I hope facebook dies and goes to hell.....Yup thats my true and angry feelings about facebook.
WOW THAT'S ONE OF THE MANY REASONS WHY I DON'T HAVE FACEBOOK NOR DO I FEEL THE NEED FOR ONE! IT'S POINTLESS! BUT SUCKS TO BE THAT GIRL! GOOD LUCK TO HER AND EXPLAINING TO ALL 110 OF THOSE MUTUAL FRIENDS WHAT SHE HAS DONE! I'M SORRY BUT THEM BITCHES THAT DO THAT HAVE NO BRAINS NOR A LIFE TO BEGIN WITH!
@BoStOnIaNMoMmY@xanga - IT'S ABOUT TIME I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE AGAINST FACEBOOK! AMEN TO THAT!
LOL. Life would be more interesting if I were friends with those people...
that was entertaining.I do know of people who post TMI all the damn time. Since I'm 22, many of my peers have children. Why do they deem it necessary to post about when their son barfed or what is a better way to position their baby for breastfeeding? I do not want to know what happened with their children. I'll worry about that stuff when I get to it.
