"Living in Sin" for a Good Cause?
Despite parenting six children together, superstar couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have yet to make their union official. But they want you to know that it's not just a case of cold feet.
Brad and Angie have gone public with their reason for waiting, telling reporters that "Maybe we'll get married when it's legal for everyone else," referring to the fact that in most states, gay marriage is still not legal.
What do you think: Are Brad and Angelina taking a stand for a noble cause, or is this just another Hollywood excuse?

I believe it's a noble cause. While there may be the excuse of saying, "We might split up so we don't want to go through the paperwork", I believe it's from the heart. I don't remember if it was Brad Pitt, but someone made a one-minute video pleading California to vote No on Prop. 8 when it was introduced. So, it shows a lot of character on their part. But would it be effective to change people's minds? I don't know, but chances are people might just forget about it later on down the road.
I think getting married (or not) & living together is for the 2 people involved to decide. For legal purposes & children, it's harder when you're not married, especially when it comes to medical decisions but to each their own.
I personally cant stand this couple anyway, but I like it better when Charlize Theron & Stuart Townsend said it. I think she said it first anyway. GLAAD awarded her for her words & helping the gay community.
Hm, I'll go ahead and reframe from giving a real answer to this question.
I guess it's noble of them to take a stand for a cause they believe in, even though refusing to get married isn't exactly going to hurry up the process of making gay marriage legal. I wouldn't sacrifice something I truly want if it won't make any difference whatsoever. They should be thinking more about what's best for them and their children but props to them for standing up for their values in spite of public scrutiny, I guess.
Hollywood excuse!
They're going to break up or cheat on each other because... oh that's right! Karma's a bitch!!!
I just wonder what's going to happen to the children.
Schweet. I hope they're not just bullshitting it. Seems like something Angelina would do, though. Also, he needs to shave that shit off, wtf.
@ccarothers@xanga - How about refrain?
i think it's just an excuse because i once read some where that angelina commented that if the kids start asking them to get married then they'll probably get married. it's hollywood, these people will say or do anything to get in the public eye.
I mean it's one thing to stand up for gay rights, it's another to use that as a cop out excuse & that's what they are doing. Besides you really think it's gonna make a damn bit of difference if they get married or not? The government could fucking careless about some stupid couple getting married or not. They need to give legal union rights to Gays, regardless what they do. Ugh I can't stand them!
I don't care. I think it's all about commitment anyway. If they're sincerely committed, I wouldn't ever define that as "living in sin."
it's fine, i don't see it as an "excuse" for anything. i don't think they, or any other people, have to get legally married. i don't like infidelity though.
i love these guys :) x
each to their own.
@HeartOfPandora@xanga - Hm. How about it. Thanks for the correction? I'll refrain from commenting then.
ugh; this couple annoys me.
what difference would it really make if they got married or not? i don't see it being a hollywood excuse. both of them are huge activists from what i scan from tabloids. They probably came out and said they'd get married when everyone else was allowed because they were trying to create more awareness of the issue. i don't think having kids and not getting married is really a big deal.
Even if it is the typical Hollywood bullshit, I adore it. At least they came up with a worthwhile excuse that has some meaning to it - but, more importantly, an excuse that fully supports one of my favorite political agendas
Marriages aren't going to crumble if a man and (oh my goodness - dare I say it?! -) ANOTHER man enter a church and officially unite themselves with one of the most sacred, age old rites in the world.
The staunch conservative paranoia actually baffles me.
Three cheers for Libertarianism! Anyone else with me?!?
@HeartOfPandora@xanga - (I'm glad someone else noted that grammatical mistake because it was actually driving me CRAZY!)
Adam and Eve are not married and they have kids too.
thought they broke up?
None of business. Marriage is bullshit anyway, especially in Hollywood.
The title of this post extremely annoys me.
explain the living in sin bit again
I think it's great. They are a very influential couple, anything they do attracts attention, whether good or bad.
They're pretty big on philanthropy so they probably mean it. Plus why rush it, if they're happy the way it is why ruin it by forcing marriage.
Marriage should not be something you rush into. While I applaud them for waiting for the right moment, the reason why they're waiting is because they want same sex marriage to be legalized in every state is just a Hollywood excuse. If you're not ready the just say so! There's no need for excuses!
I think it's silly. Sounds pretty lame to me, to put it nicely. I wonder what the real, under the dirt, excuse is? There has to be some other reasons, you know?
I could see them living together like that forever, without ever getting married. Makes sense to me, I guess. Less hassle, you know? In my eyes, they're already married, just without the papers.
