Enough with the Love Songs!
Is it possible to turn on a radio and not hear a love song?
Here are the Billboard Top 20:
Key:
Bolded if it has the word "love" in it
Underlined if it references relationships or sex
Italicized if it it references a breakup or unrequited love1. Fireflies - Owl City
2. Whatcha Say - Jason DeRulo
3. Down - Jay Sean
4. Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus
5. Run this Town - Jay-Z
6. Paparazzi - Lady Gaga
7. Meet Me Halfway - The BEP
8. 3 - Britney Spears
9. I Gotta Feeling - The BEP
10. Sweet Dreams - Beyonce
11. You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift
12. Replay - Iyaz
13. Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z
14. Forever - Drake
15. Use Somebody - Kings of Leon
16. Sexy Chick - David Guetta
17. Already Gone - Kelly Clarkson
18. Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
19. Obsessed - Mariah Carey
20. One Time - Justin Bieber15/20 reference relationships or sex
11/20 have the word "love" in the lyrics
7/20 reference a breakup or unrequited loveSay popular radio stations play only play the top 20 songs, and give them equal airtime and play them in random order. 75% of the time, youre going to hear a song that references relationships or sex, and 55% of the time, youre going to hear a song that talks about love.
I know, I know. I'm going off on hypotheticals here. But now, at least I have some evidence to back up the fact that it feels like I hear love/sex songs on the radio ALL OF THE TIME. Can we talk about something else folks?
What do you think? Does it suck to turn on the radio when youre in a rough patch with your SO, or if you have just broken up? What kinds of music do you listen to to help you get over a relationship?

A tale as old as tiiiiiime....
Some as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beaaaaaaaaaast!
listening to love songs doesnt help to get over a relationship i think
because it may bring back memories which u may want to forget?
It's always been like this. Suck it up!
You think radio had more to think about than love and breakups, but that's what the kids like, I guess. I'm bored of love songs myself, except those that actually make effort to break out of the usual box..
singers just try to appease the masses. i think the majority of people in this world are in/having trouble with/trying to be/confused about a relationship of some kind. lol if you're sick of it, just turn on the ipod or play a CD. when there's nothing on, i usually turn on the record player and play some jazz.
karaoke!!
People still listen to the radio? ack. Worst place to find/listen to music. Industry chosen songs based on how well they will do with the public does not do it for me.
@lot223@xanga - yeah I cant stand listening to the radio with the same songs playing over and over...
Sounds like you're so sick of love songs. Maybe So Sick by Ne-Yo would show you how you feel. Oh wait...
Because love and relationships pwn over anything else.
I hate hearing a sad love song on the radio when my bf and I are at a rough patch. Makes me question everything about it. And it's not just pop radio here. Active rock does it just as badly. Except add a few songs about drug addictions in there too.
Go with public radio. That'll get you away from the love songs. It's informational too.
love's just the easiest thing to write/sing about.
Go YouTube a non-love song. :D
Listen to "Haven't Met You Yet" by Michael Buble if you're trying to get over a break up. It's got a happy tune and looks to the future positively.
aww i like love songs, especially ones by justin bieber.. they're just so sweet. helps me escape. because you know no guy in real life would actually feel that way about a girl, but it's nice to pretend.
If music doesn't work, watch a comedy or something that inspire you, like Shrek?Micheal Jackson?
@yuk_lui@xanga - @lot223@xanga -
I must agree with you two.
I look around me and I see it isn't so
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs
And what's wrong with that? I'd like to know
as long as you know its all fuckin' BULLSHIT anyway, it doesnt matter.
@SeeBeeWrite@xanga - Made me think of the recent SNL skit heh.
@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - It's also the most relate-able topic for people to feel something from. Which makes decent to good love songs become popular. Pretty much everyone has been in love at one point or another, whether they've been in a relationship or not yet.
I personally listen to about 90% love songs. I have no clue what the other 10% are. It definitely doesn't help when you're trying to move on, or get over a breakup though. You could always listen to random rap, rock, or something that doesn't have to do with love.
you seem jaded...
lol gotta say im pretty sick of them myself
i agree it sucks!
xThis is why I don't listen to the radio.
A twelve year old singing about love? Justin Bieber..... WTF?!?!
i think the media has always portrayed loved as something really important.
i mean in all movies your see, action..adeventure.. horror.. humor
like 75% of the time, there will be some kind of love between a character developing through out the movie
