  • Enough with the Love Songs!

Is it possible to turn on a radio and not hear a love song?

Here are the Billboard Top 20:

    Key:
Bolded if it has the word "love" in it
Underlined if it references relationships or sex
Italicized if it it references a breakup or unrequited love

    1. Fireflies - Owl City
    2. Whatcha Say - Jason DeRulo
    3. Down - Jay Sean
    4. Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus
    5. Run this Town - Jay-Z
    6. Paparazzi - Lady Gaga
    7. Meet Me Halfway - The BEP
    8. 3 - Britney Spears
    9. I Gotta Feeling - The BEP
    10. Sweet Dreams - Beyonce
    11. You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift
    12. Replay - Iyaz
    13. Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z
    14. Forever - Drake
    15. Use Somebody - Kings of Leon
    16. Sexy Chick - David Guetta
    17. Already Gone - Kelly Clarkson
    18. Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
    19. Obsessed - Mariah Carey
    20. One Time - Justin Bieber

    15/20 reference relationships or sex
11/20 have the word "love" in the lyrics
7/20 reference a breakup or unrequited love

Say popular radio stations play only play the top 20 songs, and give them equal airtime and play them in random order. 75% of the time, youre going to hear a song that references relationships or sex, and 55% of the time, youre going to hear a song that talks about love.

I know, I know. I'm going off on hypotheticals here. But now, at least I have some evidence to back up the fact that it feels like I hear love/sex songs on the radio ALL OF THE TIME. Can we talk about something else folks?

What do you think? Does it suck to turn on the radio when youre in a rough patch with your SO, or if you have just broken up? What kinds of music do you listen to to help you get over a relationship?
