My girlfriend just told me she needs a nice way of telling her man to keep his leg close. No, not in the whorish way but more of a sitting etiquette.
The story goes, they were riding the subway together and it's the first time they've commuted together since going out. To her horror, he's sitting with his legs wide open like he has swollen testicle syndrome.
It's something we gripe about all the time. It's a pet peeve of ours and we've talked openly about why men feel the need to sit like they've got bowling balls between their legs. Let's face it, you do not need to take up so much space especially when it's rush hour and we're packed into the trains like sardines. Anyway, she notices other commuters whispering and giving them looks and she's trying to nudge him and tell him to move over a little but he's oblivious to all the stares. She knows if she takes the direct route and tell him to close his legs, he'll probably take it as a joke and go spread eagle just to annoy her.
Have you ever had to point out an etiquette problem to your SO? If so, how would you approach it?

Hahah, my boyfriend sits like that. I'm like, put your legs together so we can share this seat, and he's probably like, oh yeah, i forgot i could put my legs close together, haha.
If I ever had to face an issue like that with him, I probably just straight up told him about it and made him more aware of it so he could stop.
i only noticed that my bf, like my dad has a habit of shaking their legs when they are sitting, either its out when we are at dinner or in the car. you know that constant tapping that the heel doesn't really touch the ground.
it annoys me after about 10 min of that constant shaking. so at dinner with his colleagues the other night i just gently put my hand on his thigh and said stop, he apologized and sometimes when he does start to shake he will notice im there and stop.
i guess you tell them enough times and they might stop but then again they might not and do it more to annoy you. tell them in private, not in public
no he doesn't thank god.
i see it all the time on the subwayyy and i want to kill them!!!!.. r their balls so big they cant close their legs.. cmonn.. gross.. =[
i;d just tell hin how it's supposed to be. no big deal. and speaking of which--guys sit like that. i guess i'm more tolerant because i grew up around men.
haha never been in a situation like that
but id prolly jst tell him :)
x
On the tram I always see guys sitting like that. It's just accepted and nobody really questions it. Of course, if he's taking up an excessive amount of room, it's best to just say something to him but not too loudly. You don't want to injure his pride or embarrass him in front of other people.
And if he decides to do the exact opposite - and exaggerate by going spread eagle - just to annoy her... well then, he might not be the guy for her. LOL
My husband gets immense pleasure out of being "improper". I've just learned to laugh at him. He's not going to stop just because it breaks a social norm. We live in south Texas and most people speak Spanish.....he mispronounces Spanish words JUST to be annoying and make people mad (which, they do get really mad and I find that kind of comical).
He knows when to tone it down and be mature though.
I highly doubt he'd close his legs if I asked him too, or even tried to mention is subtly. I don't want him sitting like a girl anyway. That's just how men sit.
Uh...doesn't bother me? If my boyfriend does it, I don't notice it
Glue them legs togethah!
@Lil_Firefly_25@xanga - same.
Sadly no subways where I live.. But I do notice some guys stand with theire legs wwaay to far apart..So much so I could run and slide inbtween theire legs and be fine on the other side without them noticing. X3
Are we really getting this picky?
Whatever. It's more comfortable that way. I sit that way too.
Well, I don't date boys, so I don't have this problem with a significant other....but looking from my P.O.V, I just don't see why this is such a big deal...at all really...especially not big enough to write a blog about. I'm with @ieatcrayons. Sounds pretty picky.
I think it's even stranger when men sit with their legs crossed. But not in a normal, manly way - in a feminine way. Some guy in my class sits like that and it bothers me to no end... all I can do is stare!!
And I think when guys sit with their legs open it's kinda sexy ; )
Sometimes, though... not if it's some fat, ugly, old man ugh
doesn't bother me, unless they're taking up more space than necessary. maybe it's more comfortable for him? I'm not a man, I don't know. Sometimes I sit like that too - when paired with slouching, it's kind of comfortable. as long as he's not wearing a fucking kilt, I don't care.
I will admit, sitting with their legs crossed [like a woman does], I think is peculiar. isn't that uncomfortable?
this reminds me of the toilet seat up/down debate ... not an issue.
Haha I dunno I always thought it was kind of hot, especially if he has nice legs. It gives off more of a "I own this room" aura rather than a prim and proper aura.
@LoveYouToDeath16@xanga - Haha yess it's sexy.
If it's in a place like that it's rude, but I'm a girl and at home I don't sit with my legs closed. I don't find it comfortable.
if guys sit with their legs closed for a long duration of time and their body is cramped tighter than normal due to pushy commuters, such as riding the subway, the temperature of his testicles will not be on par with healthy temperature settings because they dangle away from his body for a reason, to keep his sperm from over-heating and maybe even swollen from exhaustion after he exits the subway car. we should take that into consideration
however, he should also be considerate by bringing an ice pack to keep cool during long trips, which require closing his legs during crowded public transportation.
OMG. It's an annoyance to me too when I see other guys do that.
I mean, just make them STRAIGHT, not SPREAD OUT.
It's quite frankly, very revolting.
girls might not realize this since they don't have the same bits and pieces going on down there but it does get hot down there. and i won't get into the details, but it gets really uncomfortable when you just sit straight for long periods of time. and it feels like you're caging your crotch. doable, but unpleasant and uncomfortable. i think it's a LOT more comfortable for girls to sit that way than for guys. just my thoughts.
@BimBo_HiPPo@xanga - oh man my boyfriend does that, too! i have a real problem with fidgeting, it's one of my weirdest pet peeves.
@Lil_Dude433@xanga - That's my point! I'm not asking them to cross their legs but when they sit wide spread, they're encroaching my seat!! It's sooo annoying.
@ieatcrayons - Hey I'm not saying don't date them and there's gotta be something a girl does that annoys the crap out of you. Besides, it's just a blog post not a petition to ban guys from sitting like that...
