To me this seems like a pretty simple question to answer:
- Because it feels good
- To make babies
- To get boys to like me (Kidding. I'm just kidding.)
But two University of Texas researchers wanted to
dig deeper to find out what specifically drives women to go to bed with their partners. They conducted an online survey of more than 1,000 women ages 18 to 87 and found, to their surprise, that women aren't all that different from men. The researchers Cindy Meston and David Buss incorporated the findings into a new book,
Why Women Have Sex.
Apparently, the number one reason that women have sex is because they are physically attracted to their partner and seek gratification. So for all those people out there that say men are pigs and only in it for one thing, swallow your words, we women do it too!
Also, there were some interesting responses behind the motivation to have sex. Many women said they had sex to bring them closer to God. I have to assume these are the married women that answered the survey.
Revenge sex was also a big theme—getting back at partners who weren't faithful by having sex with someone else. I'd rather that than
eat my ex's goldfish.
Lastly, competition sex: A bunch of friends go to a bar and see who can get the guy to have sex with them. What a weird variation on a drinking game. Personally, I don't think my friends would be down to play. But different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I think women have sex for the same exact reasons as men. For the most part. There's also the whole "to feel closer to your partner" thing that I'm not convinced men have.
But we definitely have sex just to have sex. To feel good. To have fun. And, sometimes, to feel good about ourselves (let's be honest). I think it's crap to say otherwise. Although, I'm not certain what 'otherwise' would be.
I think we spend too much time thinking that we (men and women) are so different that we end up hurting ourselves most of the time =P
Sure, we have our slight difference and for certain things we think differently, but in the end, I'm sure almost all of us are looking for the same type of thing =)

i agree. sex is definitely about physical satisfaction and lust (not entirely a bad thing) for both men and women. although sex competitions kind of gross me out.
Why would we need secret reasons to have sex?
I saw some lists from that book with pretty ridiculous reasons as to why women have sex like getting the man to do housework, or out of sympathy. I think the list should be renamed to "why these *particular* women have sex," because the reasons are far too varied to pin down on the majority of women.
Why does it even matter? Why do we have to dissect why we have sex? Let's just have more sex and spend less time wondering why we do it, and we'll all be happier! Some of these studies are just really, really out there and frankly, pointless.

I personally enjoy satisfying my boyfriend because seeing him happy and satisfied in any way is amazing, but it does feel good and I've done my fair share of initiating "sexytime"...hahaha >w>
As for competing with your "friends" to sleep with a guy, that's just disgusting imo.
How can sex bring you closer to God? I'm not going to get into my little qualms about religion (it just makes me laugh) but that's just ridiculous. Even if you're married I don't see how it brings you closer to anything like that.

Apparently there are a lot of reasons! It feels good, it makes you feel closer to your partner, whatever, those are probably the most common reasons. Those are my reasons! Rawr. I love it. There is nothing like a good sexytime to promote pleasure, relaxation, and deep bonding.
...These idiot "researchers" are an embarrassment to the field. Yes, let's take a survey of a small sample of women and apply it to the whole female population ignoring the possibility of any biases or inaccuracies in the findings. >_<
Women have sex for the same reasons men do, but because they are made to feel more ashamed than men, obviously not as many women would like to admit it lest they be slut shamed. Just do what pleases you, ladies. Society's conservative sex attitudes can shove it.

Yeah isn't it weird how women have sex for more reasons than to get you off? Because our bodies don't actually belong to you, strange concept isn't it? We're humans too you know.
I think a better and more provocative question to ask would be why some women DON'T have sex. I mean, while varied, the answers for why anyone chooses to have sex seem pretty obvious...
Can't speak for anyone but myself. I have sex because I've been married to the most wonderful man for 15 years, and yeah, he makes me wanna ... well, you get the drift. ;)
I have sex because it feels good, relaxes me, takes away stress, it's fun, and it makes me feel closer to my boyfriend.
