This is my second dysfunctional love story of the series. With this couple I actually feel more sorry for Miss Hopeful, than I do Mr. Toad. After all Mr. Toad is just a plain ordinary guy with too many faults, and not going anywhere. On the other hand Miss Hopeful is just plain pathetic. Lets take a look at why this very popular couple is just a leap away from not working.
Lets start with Miss Hopeful. She's the poster girl for the saying "There are none so blind as those who will not see." I don't know who the author was, but they sure hit the nail on the head with Miss Hopeful. She just refuses to see what's really in front of her. She likes to believe she is optimistic. I like to thing she's crazy. What you see is what you get. I don't think she ever heard this one. She believes that with just a little help Mr. Toad is going to turn into Prince Charming any day now. She just knows in her gut someone just has to believe and work hard enough, and the transformation will happen. I don't call this belief or faith, I call it delusional She just cannot accept Mr. Toad warts and all, so she keeps waiting, and waiting for the miracle. How sad that she believes she has the power to transform or change someone into her idea of perfect.
Mr. Toad, well he's just a very plain ordinary guy with very annoying habits, and no ambition. He really doesn't believe anyone would ever want him. After all what does he really have to offer? This is why Mr. Toad allows Miss Hopeful to keep trying to change him into something he is not. He fully understands he is not acceptable just the way he is. At least someone wants him around, even if she is obsessive.
Somehow these two types of people always seem to find each other. One with low self-esteem, and no ambition to fight anything, such as Mr. Toad, and one with a twisted sense of naitivity, as well as a delusional beliefs that somehow you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Yeah right. They're seemingly the perfect couple. Mr. Toad is so complacent he could care less. As long as someone is there, it really doesn't matter what she does to him. Miss Hopeful is happy that she has the perfect subject to do her Professor Higgins impression. The problem here is one or the other is going to get tired of this magic act. It's a race to see whether Mr. Toad will get fed up first with Miss Hopeful's miraculous makeover syndrome, or Miss Hopeful will become impatient with Mr. Toad's slower than tar in January transformation. Unfortunately, their whole relationship is based on anything but real love. Mr. Toad just needs a warm body that will tolerate him, and Miss Hopeful just wants a challenging project. Again, no happily ever after for this couple either!
What do you think of Miss Hopeful and Mr. Toad? Can this couple work or not?

sounds like the hunchback of notre dame and the impossible romance. mr. toad needs some love and compassion and miss hopeful is naive and stupid to think that she can change him but sometimes I think all mr. toad needs is someone, who believes in him. I think it is adorable
a warm body that will tolerate him.... haha, you got that right!
This is why I run over toads.
im curious, what would be the best, most harmonious and happy couple then? Where both the man and woman are seen in a positive note and compliment one another?
