Text Message Break Up
My ex boyfriend, let's call him "Mike", and I had a relationship for about three years. We broke up as boyfriend and girlfriend but we still continued to pursue each other and go out even after that; I guess you could say we were more like friends with benefits then. Because we were acting this way with each other, I would always keep asking him why we don't just get back together again? He'd always give me some reason like he needed time and he wasn't ready and so forth. I would always kind of leave it at that. But then there would be days when he said he wanted to get back together and that we would soon and that really got my hopes up. Then there would be days when he said he didn't think we would get back together. We went back and forth like this all year.
I was getting tired of him pulling me back and forth like this so at the end of the summer, I took a trip to California to clear my head and actually enjoy myself for once without being paranoid about what was going to happen with us. Toward the end of my trip, Mike and I would start sending friendly texts back and forth to each other and I was once again getting my hopes up. Two days before I'm suppose to fly back home, I get a text from him saying he wouldn't be able to meet me at the airport like we agreed. I was a bit bummed out about it but I was okay with it.
His next text after that was, "Oh and I also have a new girlfriend." You could probably imagine how livid I was. I was angry that he told me this before I came home instead of waiting. There wasn't any reason for him to tell me when I would be home in two days. His excuse? He didn't want me finding out from his friends. His friends didn't even know. Asshole, much?

Well that's shitty. It's never been done to me by text message, but by a phone call ya. It hadn't been anything serious and I hadn't seen him the entire month we had been together. I lol'd a little.

No, but i was broken up via note. He gave me the folded piece of paper and simply stood there until i began to open it. He then walked away.

That's just fucked up. This clearly shows that he lacked social skills and emotional maturity if he felt it was acceptable to break up via text message. Sorry you had to go through that.
Sounds like a similar relationship I had. She "broke up" with me, but continued on acting exactly the same with me even though we "weren't a couple". During the time we "weren't a couple" she broke up with me at least once via text message, twice via MSN and a few times via phone/face to face before I'd finally had enough. Oh ya, one time via phone it was a week into a month long trip she had taken to Taiwan.
My good friend had that happen to her...TWICE!
I have to say though I'm kind of guilty of breaking up with someone electronically. At the time of the breakup, my ex didn't have a phone, car (me neither), and lived really faraway from my college. I did it over IM. Shitty I know. I'm not proud but it needed to be done.
As for your problem, he truly doesn't have an excuse. He could've grown a pair, called, and done it at least over the phone.
Wow...simply, wow. Some people don't understand the etiquette of, well, normalcy. If he wanted to pursue a relationship with another person than he should have been straightforward with you by saying that nothing would every happen between the two of you. Instead he took the cowards way out, especially when it came through a text message...

I had a similar experience of break-up but not via text. He broke up with me via MSN and the most unforgivable thing is he asked his friend to type that for him because his friend is using his account. And in fact that friend is his ex-girlfriend! After we broke up for a few days I asked him why he didn't say it by himself and he said because at that time he was talking on the phone with his friend and he didn't want me to waste time so he just simply asked his friend to type for him. After a week, I figured out that his friend is still having crush on him and they are now in a relationship! I just wanna slap him!
@Snoog420@xanga - That's right. But why stop there. If you want someone to grow balls, why not demand that they put off physical intimacy until marriage. You won't find anyone who completely respects you unless you and that person both make that choice.

Nope, I've had someone make a xanga entry to break up with me though! We even got back together after that, and I eventually broke up with him IRL, to which he got pissy and threw a chair and yelled. Yeah, kinda wish I had done it over text then. Sadly, it went on even after that incident... (was young...er, okay, lol). Eventually it got to the point where I had to break up with him for good, and it HAD to be through text, and I wouldn't see him again for the whole summer. It's a long story but quite plainly, I couldn't have waited the whole summer to break up with him.
An ex of my boyfriend's dumped him via text.
Girls and guys can be bitches about it.
