Hey, Good Lookin!
Have you ever just wanted to go to a chat room and just chat no strings attached. Like just meet somebody new and just have a general conversion. When I go into chat rooms I get like 17 people IMing and they all start off "hey asl". Some have the "hey" part, some not. Then it's generally 'do you have a pic?'
Most people don't want to talk to you unless you have a picture. I find this like super shallow and annoying. Maybe I just was bored and none of my friends were on and I wanted to chat. I'm not looking for a soul mate, just a chat buddy. I might share a pic with people I talk to and feel I can trust but for you to be someone I just meet...I don't think so. But you have to think in real life people judge by your looks. Everybody does, you don't want to talk to somebody who is mean-looking or creepy-looking.
Why do looks matter so much especially on the net? Why do we put so much emphasis on looks?

This has nothing to do with "why are looks so important" and everything to do with horny people in chat rooms wanting to get in your e-pants.
@Viserys@xanga - Exactly.
The people who honestly just want someone to talk to wouldn't immediately ask for pictures. Only the creepers do that. ;)
Whatcha cookin?
:p
People in chat rooms are mostly just horny people trying to get off. Not looking for a chat buddy.
Hey? What's up SEXY
I guess so they can identify with whom they are speaking with? Ive never asked, but Ive been asked by both men and women for my picture. One woman who was married with kids, from another country, just wanted to see what I wore, what style of clothing. Then as others mentioned, there are people trying to get off. Every once in a while you'll find a diamond in the rough though.
@Viserys@xanga - @Morningstarrising@xanga - That's why I mostly don't mess around with any chatroom but the Brain Fried Network.
@Viserys@xanga - so true.
only weirdos and creepers go to the part, "hey do you have a pic?" ugh.
They want to believe they're chatting with someone beautiful.
Chatrooms are no place to be if ur just looking to chat with someone in a innocent way because half of the people that do go to chatrooms are horny fuckers that are looking to get laid or tryng to have cyber sex or fullfill there fetishes ::gag::
It's biology.
Mmm when I chat with someone I like to know their "gender," and relative age to me just for my own knowledge. :D
It's usually just weirdo's in chatrooms anyway.
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - That's a good way to put it, although I'm sure the weirdo's would be prefer to use the words "fit" and "hot." Those weirdo's annoy me so much..
props to first post.
and u suk.
because we're a shallow society
i think thats it
and its because people can fake a personality
people cannot fake an appearance
Since they can't get laid in real life, they hunt for "good looking" people online, talk to them, and then cyber-rape them.
You went into an online chat room for conversation? I thought those things were for pedophile or horny people looking for hook ups.
@Viserys@xanga - haha nicely put (:
dont go chatrooms looking for "friends" lol
Idk... for me personally, I'm so used to converse with someone with a face. I don't judge them on particularly "beauty", but I believe all three parts - soul, mind, body - make up the person, defines them.
Once I had an interview over Skype chat, and my usually centered self blew it through nervousness - the lady's screen was blacked out, so it was me talking to a blank screen, but she could see me.
I just needed a face to hold in my mind, to communicate with. If you're talking with someone who doesn't have a pic, don't you try to guess what they might look like? An image, physical traits start to come in mind automatically, trying to match up with the tone of voice or the style of writing.
It does seem retarded while online since you won't be simply staring at their face. It should be more about the conversation. I admit looks does play a part in how you relate to someone but then again, not everyone is truthful online of who they are or what they look like even with pics. Thos who are so adamant about pics either want to confirm it's a real person or are superficial. Either way, tread carefully.
No, no, no. You've got it all wrong. "ASL?" Doesn't mean what you think it does. It means: A Simple Lecture? They're inviting you for conversation! They are looking for intellectual stimulation just as much as you are!
...

So it is like being on Xanga/datingish looking at profile pics and going "hey baby". Plus you have the added benefit of cyber stalking by looking through their posts... unless they put friends lock on.
creepy == *Msg hotgirl69 - Hey baby, how's it going. I noticed your pic let's meet up.
and it turns out to be a creeper 50 year old balding fat man.
maybe you should go talk to real people
