  • Dating Deal Breakers

Remember Janice from Friends? She was an attractive woman, with long hair and a caring personality. Her downfall? The nasal pinched voice.

As amazing as she was, Chandler dumped Janice. Her famous OMGs were just too much for poor Chandler. Her voice was the deal breaker.

I was talking with my sister about this yesterday. She said if the perfect man strolled along- tall, distinguished, lean, handsome, even after all that, she would not be able to stand it if he had woman hands. I guess the girl wouldn't be able to take it if her boyfriend had daintier hands than she did.

Everyone has their deal breakers, whether it be a voice, hands, Jesus feet, whatever. What's your deal breaker? Is it really that important and why?

P.S. If I were a man, Megan Fox's clubbed thumbs would be my deal breaker for her. They freak me out.

    cheating.

smoking    (I dated a smoker, and it doesn't taste good)

  • linguistic_nonsense@xanga

His sexuality. If he isn't straight, it isn't happening. I have nothing against one's sexuality one way or the other, but I dated someone who was bi (at that time) and I got burned. I was good enough for him when he had nobody else and when he did have someone I was left in the dust, forgotten. I could not do that again because I cannot emotionally take that risk of getting hurt like that.

  • AznFier@xanga

    @goblinsinthemirror@xanga - That's sort of universal.

Annoying voice, yeah Janice. =| Not coooool. Also define.. feminine hands... small hands? or soft skin? or what? My friend has small hands. Some of my friends also have smoootthhh skinned hands. I on the other hand have sand paper for skin on my hands.

Bad breath, I can never ever stand it. It is shallow but I am sorry, I just can't get close comfortably.

  • xsteph_ox@xanga

You know what Jesus' feet looked like? lol

  • openmindedgirlk@xanga

If were are going on just physical then I like a nice voice, without one it would take more consideration lol. But I'm pretty flexible and don't have really any deal breakers, I try to role with the punches

  • FreeeVerse@xanga

@xsteph_ox@xanga - That was what I was thinking, too. LOL.

  • tigerdauphin@xanga

personal hygiene, and I'm talking more than daily shower b/c that's a given, but as in do not clean his feet or picks at food with the same hand he just scratch himself with.

  • Vacantwhispers@xanga

    Her thumbs get me too.

I'm so picky, I'm pretty sure I have at least 20 deal breakers. :/

  • Insomnia_Pickles_XtraTomato@xanga

    @kawcha@xanga - agree that's pretty foul

ALSO! BAD TEETH! there was this guy - well, he had a lot of terrible problems, but the one that stuck out worst was he had the most awful smoker's teeth (guess that goes under smoker too - but it was still really the teeth that made me sick to look at)
    couldn't IMAGINE kissing that dude

  • suckmytoe92@xanga

@MilkyWhitesezMoo@xanga - Ugh.  Eww.  Or someone's teeth look like they never brushed them when they were little...  Or now.  Yellow is one of my favorite colors, don't get me wrong.  I just better never see it on someone's teeth.

    Yuck.
  • ScorpioInBlack@xanga

Yah, the smoking is a deal breaker.  I'd also add controlling, bad posture, inconsiderateness/selfishness, commitment phobia, verbally/emotionally-abusive to that list.  I've dated all of the above, so I know what to look out for...

  • EverlastingSimplicity@xanga

I think there are a few things I could come up with that have NO WAY written all over.... Hahaha. Being picky and knowing what you want are totally different. :)

  • snapeful@xanga

lol! what are jesus feet? hahaha... dirty feet maybe?

    bad breath (self-explanatory)
shorter than me (this is NOT going to be tolerated -- i'm already only 4'11 and 1/2.)
long hair (if he has longer hair than me, that is going to be shaved off... also, nicer hair than me = grr....)
annoying voice (never watched friends but fran drescher/the nanny? I wanted to shoot her)
gay tendencies (if he enjoys touching men more than touching me, wow, fuck you and good-bye)

for girls, they would have to be...

    bad breath (yup)
too tall (I'm talking about a foot taller than me. wtf? how am I supposed to hug you?!)
huuuuuge feet (bigfoot... ew... kind of unattractive during sex/make out sessions..)
ugly eyebrows (sorry girl, you should pluck them if they are unibrows and such)

  • MiladyMasked@xanga

I'm willing to tolerate almost anything if he's otherwise a great guy, but an annoying voice would be a deal-breaker for me.  I want a guy I can have a good conversation with, so it would drive me crazy if his voice was annoying.

For now, the only ones that come to mind are:

smoker (I can't stand the smell), short (as in shorter than me- 5'), annoying voice (communication is key to a relationship; if I can't stand him talking, it won't work), fear of commitment (I need a man who is in it for the long term), overly-possessive or protective (its nice every once in a while, but if I can't even talk with one of my guy friends without him making a huge deal out of it, it gets annoying), and disrespectful/inconsiderate...

  • Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga

Smoking, lack of personal hygiene & cheating are deal breakers but so are fronts. That's why I broke up with my first boyfriend. By front I mean acting a certain way to get my attention & then showing your true colors. It's a long story but basically by boyfriend was a suave, smart dream come true...until we started dating. He was rude, obnoxious to certain subjects & he was a moocher. I understand teenagers dont always have money but he should have told me BEFORE we went out that he didnt have money instead of waiting until we got to the mall/theater. I had to pay for everything & I couldnt even get a soda I liked because he didnt like what I picked. Needless to say that was our second & LAST date.

  • mZdejavuZ@xanga

    Deal breakers for me:
    - poor hygiene
    - smoker/druggie
    - Poor/bad manners
    - disrespect/inconsideration/thoughtlessness
    - un-supportive/not understanding
    - controlling/possessive

  • BlackJackBebe@xanga

i didnt know about MF's club thumbs.. so i googled it and nearly died. lol.
my boyf was walking past, and he saw me laughing and asked what i was laughing about..
i showed him the pic and he's like ..

    him: " .. so?"
me: ".. look at her thumbs" *laughs more*
    him: "what about them?"
me: *gives him a weird look* ".. her thumbs are munted."
    him: " .. and?"
me: " well.. would you date her?"
him: *while walking away* " .. it's not like she'd be shoving her weird thumbs up my arse"

spoken like a man. nice. lmfao.

  • MochaSprinkle@xanga

LOL, the comment about Megan Fox's thumb is too funny! I never noticed her hands... I always look at her eyes. Like, damn... her brows and yes, omg, I get it! But I have small hands, super small, actually. So it's unlikely that any man has smaller hands than I do. But if they did, I'd have an issue.

I work in food & beverage (in a hotel) and I remember when one of the cooks brought food over... I was staring at his hands. I don't know why, but for some reason I take that into account when I think of a man's overall appeal? Maybe because.... eh, I really don't know, lol! But I do!

My deal breaker woudl be... smoking. Like, having to taste that everytime we kiss? No thanks, I'm good! Eww...

  • LilRuki@xanga

Hmm.. if we're talking about physical traits, i guess bad breath and bad teeth. :))
Another deal breaker for me is being too clingy. :DD

  • Norea_666@xanga

Whiners and unclean people. Not talking about their hygiene, talking about their environment. They must be clean people.

  • x__EMuhLEE@xanga

bad teeth and a bad odor... other than that i can kind of learn to live with stuff.
