  • "Read this, please <3"

Dear person who probably loves love,

Yesterday I was cleaning out my room (), and I chanced upon a forgotten memento in the past. It's a cute little something I wrote the summer between 8th grade and high school, sitting in the fourth pew at church. I think I had just found out the object of my affections had just been toying with my emotions, and of course my poor little heart was crushed. But as I bent down to brush the tears from eyes, my gaze landed on the stack of blank "encouragement cards" that church members write messages on and send to each other for...encouragement.

Hey, I could use a little encouragement right now. And I started writing.

It's a letter to all future SOs (significant other), boyfriends or fiancees. I think my 8th grade self even planned to store it safely and whenever a relationship got serious, I would hand this to him over dinner and say, "Read this, please!"; but of course I just forgot about it.

Looking back, I realize I really wrote it as a letter to myself. A reminder of what I truly wanted, not to settle for less. My 8th grade self was wise. Since then, I've been through love from a million directions, matured a bit, swore off dating for a while and (of course) currently reconsidering it (yes, I know you've that too :])

Here it is... a piece of my young heart... don't be too critical!

(If you look closely, you can see a faint pink circle in the bottom left corner. I sealed it with a kiss! Ah, middle school.)

    Haha.

And even after all these years, I wouldn't change a thing in this simple message.

    I think I'll keep this.

I decided to share this with you today because... I want you to think about what you'd write to your future SO... and then tell me! Lay down the law! Make requests! Or just get all gushy... I know you will...

<3, an older (but still young at heart!) mel

    P.S. I love you too.
