Post-Breakup Haircuts
Many people (mostly girls) like to have haircuts shortly after a break up.
Whether it's to signify a fresh start in the love department or to just show off to the ex that you are better off without him, there must be a conclusion drawn as to why people do what they do. I mean, they have a thing called "breakup haircut" so obviously there must be origins.
So why do girls have new haircuts after breaking up? And do guys do it too?

It's like the "breakup revenge diet" idea. You only do it to make them want you back.
because looking good is the sweetest revenge
^_^ haha, I'm totally the one who did that when my ex broke up with me. But I change my hair constantly, so I did it more as an act that I'm not the same person that I was when I was with him, so I changed my outward appearance too. Yah, it's definately more of a fresh start thing; change something so you know that you're a new person and can start a new phase in your life without that said person.
i don't know about post-breakup haircuts, but there is such a thing as post-breakup food items: nutella, bread, cereal, haagen daz ice cream.
i flirted with the idea of short hair for awhile, but the guy i was dating didn't like short hair. when we broke up i had it cut into a reverse bob and dyed it blue black (a look he thought was "scary"). it was awesome and my way of conveying that i didn't care what he liked.
I just got my hair cut short for the first time in about six years (and for the first time in my life, I actually got a short haircut that looked good!). Immediately after my first serious relationship, I honestly did nothing new. I just continued growing out my hair from my last disaster of a short haircut =)
Hmmm, I don't know. I think it's to start fresh...
@aquarius_lovedove@xanga - yes. lol.
xo
Well it's like that one song on the radio now where she "knew he liked the long do" so she went and got it cut. Everyone does it for a different reason, but I figure the majority does it for revenge and to show that they don't give a shit anymore.
I've never even heard of that before. I don't cut my hair after a break up.
I do it just to make myself feel better... and to give myself a confidence boost when i look at my new hair and know that it looks good!
its like a fresh start, i do it not only after a break up, but alo emotional traumas successful things, and regret.
I do it for several different reasons. first of all, when I break up with a guy...I want to feel like a whole new person. it is significant of a 'fresh start'.also, I want to FEEL like a hot new person. a haircut helps with that. CHANGE in general helps with that. and hair is the safest thing you can change- it always grows back
haha.. wow... i didn't even realize i did that until i read this blog.
hmm... i think i just needed to cut off the old.. ya know... symbolic. i needed a fresh start.
haha ya.. i would want to look good again knowing i'm single. but not neccessarily a haircut, i like keeping my hair long haha. i usually diet, go out more, pay more attention to make up and my nails.. since i forget about looking good when i'm in a relationship.
I trim my hair every other new moon, break up or no breakup. So no, I've never had a post-breakup hair cut. I could see myself getting a post breakup dye job, though.
No, guys don't do that at all, what's the point? Guys tend not to notice when a girl gets a haircut when they are dating, we probably wouldn't even notice after the break up. Hope you girls just do it for yourselves.
It's a form of liberation!
Ugh... I'm so guilty of this. And I hate it because I love having long hair, and I grow my hair out for a long time... and then the boys leave, and I think it's a good idea to cut all my hair off. The most recent was this May... 11 inches! I regret it very much. I had been wanting to cut my hair really short, but didn't know if a good time would come up, and then graduation came and went and it seemed like the perfect time. Three months later, and still with too short hair, I wish I hadn't gotten the "breakup haircut". But I've been doing it since high school and it has got to stop.
My ex used to style his hair nicely (short and clean cut) when we were going out, but after we broke up... he just let his hair loose. He grew it out and had swayed bangs... I couldn't even see his eyes half of the time. =/
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - Hahah exactly.
After my last (really awful break up), I didn't cut my hair. I'm too attached to the length of it. But instead, I dyed it all pink. My ex had forbidden me from that while we were dating, so after we were done, I did it to spite him. Definitely didn't regret that!
Some people do it for change and some people do it to get back at their ex. I never do anything to my hair after a breakup... I usually turn to food and excessively working out lol.
It's therapudic. Forget washing those troubles right out of your hair...cut them out. I get the hankering to cut my hair any time I've got big stress! Haven't heard of guys doing it.
Lol i actually shaved my head bald at one point... then tried joining the military... like.. the DAY AFTER... turns out back problems and a shiney head make it hard to be an army ranger...meh...
