  • Friday Fun: How My SO Noticed Me

    Miss Giraffe

I have something slightly embarrassing to tell you all, but I'm rather curious about you, as well. The first time I noticed the current boyfriend (and I say "noticed" because we had met on several occasions before, but I was never interested), I had gone to my friend's birthday party. We were playing 7-11-Doubles (yes, a drinking game), and though I had tried to hide from being picked on, somehow I ended up pretty intoxicated. We're flirting, playing the game, touching, leaning on each other, holding hands, when suddenly! I had the urge to use the bathroom. I get up, a little wobbly, and then --

BAM,  I throw up right next to my friend. Although, apparently what happened is that I had mentioned I was feeling slightly sick, and she was trying to help me get back into the bathroom when I puked on the lower half of dress and her shoes. Mortifying? Yes. In my defense, that's been the first time I have ever been that drunk around them (ever, I promise).

Thankfully, he didn't see that happen, but sometimes I'm torn over whether I should be happy remembering it or embarrassed, haha. We've been together for almost 9 months now, and I haven't puked since :).

So, datingish readers, any embarrassing stories of how you met your SO (past &/or present)? Or am I the only one?

I was awesome and her (now ex-)boyfriend wasn't.

My husband and I met at a Rakim concert.  We went to the same University and never noticed one another before.  The morning of the concert (which was at the end of our sophomore year) we noticed each other for the first time on the bus.  I had my jacket hood on, but I was looking good coming from dance practice.  He was goofing off with his friend pretty loudly and I noticed him and thought he was cute, but I figured he was visiting because I hadn't seen him before. Well, that was that and later at the concert he stopped me to tell me that he liked my hair (it was in a fro-hawk).  I thanked him and kept moving.  His friend stopped me to embarrass him by telling me he really wanted my number, but he was too shy.  I told him I thought it was cute he was shy and then noticed by his dirty sneakers that he was the same guy from the bus.  I looked up at him and said "you're that guy from the bus"...and then he realized I was the same girl.  He thought I was making fun of him by commenting on his dirty sneakers and he found me on facebook the next day because for some reason he thought it was attractive or something that I picked fun at him.  Never noticed one another before then but we started bumping in to eachother all the time after that.

It's fate.  I had just cut my hair a month before then, decided I wasn't going to get back with my ex a week before then, and he had just broken up with his first girlfriend ever a couple months before and learned a lot. I spent a lot of time getting over my first ex freshman year and part of sophomore year, and then trying to let go of my second ex.  We went to a lot of the same events and had mutual friends, but for some reason, our paths never crossed.  We found one another at the exact right time.

do you think he'd still be with you if he had saw that? personally, i think throwing up when drunk isn't embarrassing at all. it just means you know how to party, hard.

  • everyinchisbruised@xanga

i was at a going away party, totally wasted, and he was doubly so. i knew OF him from a mutual friend and we got introduced. somehow he got wind of my ability to speak german and got to me to say "i'm really drunk". he found the sentence so funny he fell over and was suddenly part of a huge alcohol sharing spoon sesh. i was invited to join but was in a complicated situation that i did NOT want to mess up with another boy. 2 weeks later, he asked me out and i'm the happiest i've ever been.

I started a new job at a web hosting company. I started out as a level 1 tech. We had office chat so one day I had trouble with figuring out an issue with a customer so I searched the list for level 2 techs that might be able to help me. So I saw his name (it's Romanian and hard to pronounce) so I thought he sounded "like a nice old guy who would be willing to help me." So I messaged him and he's like, "I'll come over and help you out." So he came over, and as he rounded the corner I thought to myself...."Is that him?!?!" He pulled up a chair and sat next to me and leaned over to grab the mouse and he smelled so nice, his hair was done and was just dressed up...OOH so sexy! So from that time on we chatted and went out and we've been together for a year and a half now and still at the same company :) We still joke about the fact that I thought he would be a nice old guy haha.

My SO and I knew OF each other through a shit-load of mutual friends. The first time we ever hung out was strange cause we already basically knew about each other but had never formally met. It wasn't really embarrassing, just kind of strange haha. We hit it off though and 10months later are still going strong.. =)

we met at my friend& I's conjoined birthday party xP

  • soniiuh@xanga

My ex and I met at one of our mutual friend's birthday party. The birthday boy wanted me to come early and help him set up and stuff, so I went over early and just as I was opening the door BAM I hit my ex. It was a pretty hard hit considering the door was made out of wood and all, so I apologized a billion times and ran in to get him some ice. We ended up talking and getting to know each other before/during the party. I found out he was 18 (and I'm 15) and he was a freshman in college. He ended up giving some of my friends and I rides, and I think he purposely dropped everyone else off except me cuz right before i got out, he asked me if I'd like to go see the dark knight (i told him i was obsessed with superheroes... superman/batman/hulk/ironman etc) and I accepted. He ended up asking me to be his girlfriend three weeks after that. We dated for eight months and it was a pretty good relationship minus the last few weeks.

I met my boyfriend through an internet dating website. We messaged back and forth for a while before finally agreeing to meet. I was standing with a friend outside of our meeting place when he snuck up behind me. I turned around and jumped. Yep, he scared me as way of hello. It's been a year and a week since. :)

My girlfriend and I were at SF. She had eaten cup noodles. While on the crowded bus, she got car-sick and threw up mostly on her bag, but a little everyone else around her. Noodles were everywhere.

There are tons more embarrassing moments. I actually think embarrassing moments help define a relationship. :)

  • Finity@xanga

My pickup line was "hold me tighter, cowboy."
The line actually became a mantra for the entire floor of my college dorm freshman year.

  • Honey14

i first saw my ex at an arts festival.  we're both musicians and performed with different groups, and when i saw him i told my friend that he was super hot; apparently he told his friend the same about me when i was on stage.  he kept the program so he'd remember my name in case we ever met; three months later we ran into each other at school, but he was too shy to introduce himself, so i went up and said hi.  we were together for over 4 years, and he still has that program.

I met my bf in Chines class in college and then we went to study abroad in China together.  We were just friends, but I stuck close to him b/c I was nervous about traveling alone in a foreign country.  I did have a small crush on him and he noticed, but never commented on it.  But he did try to avoid contact with me, so I thought he didn't like me like that.  When we got back to the states, I started to distant myself from him, thinking we wouldn't be anything more than friends.  He noticed my change in attitude, so during winter break, he asked me to hang out with him and his friends.  I didn't think much of it b/c we were always in a group playing sports, movies or dinner.  But then, he started to be friendlier to me, different than before.  The funny thing was, his brother and friends decided to play matchmaker and helped us get together b/c my bf is a pretty shy guy around girls.  He finally asked me out before the spring semester and he confessed that when I distant myself from him, he missed me and that was how he realized that he did like me.  We've been dating for 1 and 1/2 years now and still going strong! (My first love

Mine is actually very very similar to yours! I have met him on several occasions prior but never had any interest. Espeically since i had a boyfriend then. But after my breakup with my ex, we had hung out, again on occasion, amongst mutual friends. We talked here and there but still wasnt too interested but the more chances we hung out the more we joked around (minor flirting) and one day after hanging out with him i started thinking about him like crazy and I was like what the heck is going on? I never had interest before?!?!? so the next day I found out he had text. The following day after that, I ended up drunk texting him!!! o man I was embarassed. I don't normally drink myself but I was with friends of friends and they were BORING!!!

Anyway he ended up picking me up cause he was nearby and watched over me till i sobered up. Saw me throw up on the way to the bathroom (and i was literally running to avoid him seeing me throw up) But he laughed it off and was real sweet about it. Drove me home after making sure I was okay. All I remember was that we did end up holding hands "for drunken support" and that I had texted him a "<3" at the end of the night, when nothing has even been established yet.( Couldn't believe i sent that when i realized the next day!) What I dont remember is that he held me for a bit at the front of my apartment. OMG! THe next day I was totally embarassed but he asked me on a date. We've just hit our one year anniversary. =)

  • linguistic_nonsense@xanga

The embarrassing part of my story was I never noticed he liked me but everybody else did. I mean, all the signs were right smack there in front of me and never once did I notice him! It was two years of him crushing on me that I somehow managed to notice. It just goes to show me how oblivious I can really be regardless of how good I am at perception.

  • mrnda_lynn@xanga

i flirted hardcore with a close female friend of mine. one day she told him abt my flirty actions and he referred to me as a nympho. :P i didn't appreciate the gesture but we met a month later and he ended up liking me first. i didnt find an interest in him until a month after thaat. we've been together for a year. :)

  • krazykat722@xanga

firstly, 7-11-doubs is a BAD game. we went through like 30 beers in an hour. wow.

and i met my SO while i was in high school and he was an "assistant" to the band director. he may as well have been a teacher. it wasnt embarrassing per se, but there were embarrassing moments, such as people would call me out when i was staring at him and i would blush uncontrollably. but i think the embarrassing stories are the cute ones in the end. :)

  • QCEM@xanga

My boyfriend first noticed me in 6th grade, on the bus. He thought I was a boy (due to a three-inches-shorter-than-I-asked haircut, I didn't blame him), and he wanted to know if I wanted to hit on ("creep out" by anybody else's definition) girls with him. (Yes, he was very horny then. I didn't like him much.) I started liking him in later 7th grade or around there...and we started dating almost two years ago, wooh.

  • dearFLOPPY@xanga

LOL...i was actually infatuated with another guy, and my SO was my best friend. he listened to me complain + whine about the guy liked, until one day, he kissed me. i was more stunned than a deer in headlights, cause i didn't want to jeopardize our friendship for a relationship but it all worked out in the end! speaking of puking, i actually threw up all over my boyfriend when we had a couple of drinks in his buddies rooms. i threw up all over him when we came home, in the middle of making out. embarassing, yeah? but he was sweet. he cleaned me up and held me while i slept, then in the morning, YEAH he kissed me goodmorning (ew) lol.

  • acst2@xanga

HAHA.... Oh man... I got drunk... and he was watching after me. Because there was something there between us... but because of an ex I became distant with him. But that night... I was told that I kept saying, "oh my gosh." countless of times. and went on.. "oh my gosh.. I just said oh my gosh! oh mygosh! oh my gosh! I keep saying oh my gosh! oh my gosh..." yada yada yada. Then I was also told that I said something along the lines, "I feel embarrassed. Wait, how do you spell embarrassed. Spell it with me. e-m.. e.... emba... e-m-barass..." yada yada yada. AND! I ended up with, "I wish you were my boyfriend. But ya know... like.. my sister wouldn't approve. but ya know what?! I really wish you were..." yada yada yada. Oh gosh... What a night. Everytime I got drunk (It's a once in a while thing) he's always there to take care of me. Haha, love the guy. 6 months... and more to come.

  • sumtymesiwonder@xanga

my best friend had this guy come over to have a make-out session, and for whatever reason, he brought his best friend. she told me her guy was coming over again, and i should "entertain" his friend so he wasn't surfing facebook for three hours again...she described him as really cute and a future marine (yum) and showed me his pic on facebook. i agreed that he was quite attractive and of course agreed.

it was supposed to be a hook-up kind of thing, but i fell for that boy the moment he walked through the door. things didn't work out at first, but ten months later i forced our paths to cross again and we've been together ever since.

it's just funny that we were supposed to be nothing but fuck buddies, basically, and now we are so much more and the love of each other's, albeit, young, lives. :)
