Miss GiraffeI asked the boyfriend if he would want to take a mini-vacation -- maybe one or two days -- in the United States but outside of New York. There's only so much aimless driving on Long Island that anyone can bear. I was thinking maybe Philly, Baltimore, DC...and if it's possible, then Florida could be an option. He nodded his head at first, but then started shaking it, and said, "You're thinking small. I was thinking we could go somewhere out of the country."
"But I've been to Canada like 7 THOUSAND times," I whined.
"I'm not talking about Canada," and he shot me a look. "There are some cruises that are around $400, and I think there's some place that we can travel to for around $700. Me and my boys were talking about that before."
My jaw dropped. WHERE on earth can you go outside of the country -- hotel, airport, travel, blah, etc -- for under $700? And what cruise is there that's only $400? I'm going to try to be doing my own research on this, but I'd really like for anyone's opinion right now. I'm personally all for just taking a mini-vacation in the US, somewhere on the East Coast, but California would be all right, I guess (I have Advantage Airlines miles, haha). If it's possible, vacationing outside the US would be ideal, but I doubt it's as cheap as he says it.
Do you guys know of anywhere we can go? I'd like to go before school starts so some time within these two weeks!

There was some cruise my friend went on to the Bahamas. It was $850 or $900 per person, and I think it was for four days.
My brother's going on a cruise, and because of the super deal he got, it was only $200-$300 per person. There are deals out there, if you know how to look. Cruises are kind of a nice idea, because then you don't have the additional fees for airfare, hotels, meals, etc. It's all right there, prepackaged and ready to go.
Do you want a cruise or outside of the country? Cuz I would suggest California. We've got beaches as good as any foreign country and they're probably cleaner/safer too. Don't go around the Mexican border though since there has been gang skirmishes and drug drama recently. Much of your cost will go toward transportation the farther you venture from your starting point, so cost-wise, you haven't much choice if you're thinking outside the U.S.
try going to the poconos (jack frost resort)! i stayed in a townhouse for 3 days and 4 nights for $435 (that's including cleaning fee) and then an extra $75 for an extra night. place was awesome cause it had a jacuzzi. 4 hd tvs. a kitchen with all the appliances needed. bbq grill outside. a huge bathroom. king sized bed and everything you could ask for in a place. near by, there were water parks. places you could go on hikes or go boating or fishing. cheap places to buy food and other necessities. shopping areas near by.. and the whole process of it was super easy. just send a check. talk on the phone once or twice and thats it.
Cruises right now are CHEAP!!! I was pricing them for possible vacation ideas next summer and the prices shocked me. I found a five day cruise to the Caribbean for about 300 dollars, leaving from Galveston, TX.....check out prices....they are amazing right now. :)
my parents went on a four day cruise to the bahamas for 150 a person
yes, there are cruises for around $400. i went on a 10 day cruise for $700 - promotion :) not everyone can afford cruises at regular prices of $1200...! they have to lower the price when te dates for cruises get nearer. its better to sell a whole ship for half price than for half the ship for whole prices.
i'm in the same boat too. i want to go on a mini vacation with a friend too but don't know where. just looking for a mini vacay for about 4 or 5 days but has to be reasonable in price. i was thinking about going on a cruise because it's about $350 to $400 including taxes and airfare. try yahoo travel, hotwire and bing.com to find cheap and affordable cruises and trips.
You really can do the mini cruise thing for that kind of money. Carnival have some amazing offers - they keep landing in my inbox as I went on one last year. problem is I'm in the UK and can't take advantage as the cost of flights to the US get in the way!
You can get a mini 3-5 day cruise for no more than 400/person, and they hit up 1-2 islands depending on where you leave from..

@BeBiJeSs@xanga - ooh sounds like a good idea. let me check it out! thanks.
wow i didn't realize cruises could be so cheap, but i don't know if it would be the same since i'm in nova scotia canada and most things end up being more expensive from here. my boyfriend and i are going on a mini-vacation to my hometown montreal in october for thanksgiving/4.5 days, and i was saying i was really looking forward to it since we just bought the plane tickets and he said he really hopes we get to do something before then too! so who knows. it's definitely be fun to take a trip together, he hasn't gotten much of a chance to travel and it's something i love to do :)
camping is cheap and fun!
I don't think there are any cruises that go to the bahamas or somewhere warm that leaves from NY, most of them leave from florida so you also have to pay for airfare
If you want to go to Cali, it's not too expensive. My bf and I went on a 5 day 4 night vaycay to San Diego last year and it was only $600 per person for airfare (from JFK), hotel and a rental car.
