  • Other Forms Of Contraception

I got in a discussion with a buddy of mine, who is endowed with an equipment beyond the average man and has trouble finding condoms that fit him properly (other friends have verified this fact, it's not just his ego talking), about other forms of contraceptives available for a couple.

Now, I understand STIs are scary things and my buddy gets himself checked regularly. And whoever he's sleeping with, he requests that she gets checked beforehand as well. He has no desire to have something rotting his piece away by accident. But the largest size of condom doesn't fit him; it often cuts the feeling off so he doesn't perform, it dries out too easily and unfortunately due to both of these circumstances, it also breaks too often for him to be satisfied with. So he asks to me, as we dig into a giant tub of ice cream one night, "What else can I use other than condoms?"

The girl he's currently seeing is not on birth control pills. She got herself checked last week, at his request for peace and mind, but they've been trying with condoms to do the "deed". Unfortunately for both parties, it hasn't worked to their advantage. Since their tests came back clean, she's thinking of going on the pill for the first time, and he's wondering what else he could use to "double-up" the method.

I know spermicide is out there and the diaphragm for the ladies, but what else is available at the local pharmacy (ie. Canadian stores) other than condoms?

    Any ideas?

it sounds weird, but maybe they could try a VCF (vaginal contraceptive film).  they can look it up online and even request free samples be sent to them by mail from this site, and i suggest they do their homework about it and decide if it's something they'd like to try.  if you have any questions, comment me back and i'll try to answer the best i can.

There's female condoms. They're kind of weird looking but protect more area space than male condoms. That's all I can think of for over the counter products.

  • xsimplepleasuresx@xanga

He could order condoms online, stores don't always stock the largest sizes available

  • InTheThin@xanga

That sucks...my guy's average, so we have a ball trying all the different kinds of regular sized condoms.

I don't know any other thing besides contraceptive implants, female condoms (there are quite a few), and bc.

You could suggest that they use the morning after pill after every sexual encounter.

You can find condoms in ANY size online. There are a few sites that have print out rulers and you just sort of measure it up and put in the size you want and they mail them to you. They will also have larger sizes at adult stores, more than they'd have at the grocery store.

Sometimes you'll be able to find female condoms in the store, but its kind of rare. Online really is your best bet for that too.

In my opinion spermicides aren't really worth it. They don't add *that* much extra protection and a lot of people find themselves getting irritated because of it.

I would find condoms online and get her on the pill asap.

    diaphragm? female condom?
Order larger condoms online, and in bulk... since many places don't carry a lot of the ones designed for larger men. (there are plenty of websites for buying condoms, so not hard to find) I'm sure there's a brand out there that has a size that could fit, just gotta look harder and not just rely on local stores.

Otherwise, all of the contraceptive responsibility is going to fall solely on the shoulders of the women he sleeps with.

Modern-day IUDs are now much safer and effective, with fewer side effects.  One can be implanted during an office visit.  One version lasts for 5 years, enough to cover one's undergrad career   Obviously, it doesn't protect against STDs, but for preventing pregnancy, it does that very, very well.  And, if you decide you are ready to have kids, go back to the doctor, and have the IUD removed.

  • UnopenedSuitcases@xanga

online i guess. how about the magnum kinds?

  • patience_isnt

    Online? Female condoms? IUD?

  • nonurbusinessyo@xanga

Brith Control Patch but that doesn't protect you from STD:

Good dick control helps. Sometimes I don't even release inside the condom.

  • Tina_Kushnu

Vaginal contraceptive film, diaphragm, female condoms, IUD, spermicide or (better) a combination of these.  From your post I'm not sure whether or not the girl is against oral contraceptives, but if she is then she shouldn't have to take them.  There are other options out there.

  • MarksBeneathTheSkin@xanga

@InTheThin@xanga - I hope you're joking about the morning after pill. That stuff is incredibly rough on a woman's body.

It's essentially like dumping a whole weeks worth of birthcontrol hormones into your body all at once. Recovering from that sort of sudden hormonal change can be really rough and would certainly not be recommended for a daily type use, or even weekly use.

Me and my friends use to do stupid things with condoms like put water in them and blow them up like a balloon. One of my friends even put one over his size 12 foot. And this was a regular sized condom!!! If a size 12 foot can fit into a regular sized condom, now I dunno what size his junk is, but if its bigger than a foot then I dont know any girl who wants that near her vagina. Magnums are should fit him. If the condom breaks, then he is not using them correctly, it may not have anything to do with his size. He should try polurethane condoms or a female condom. A female condom can be put in up to 8 hours before the deed. Polyurethane condoms conduct better and are harder to tear.

If neither works, then I think your friend is one of those guys that are trying to talk girls out of using a condom. Cause there are a lot of guys out there with big junk and they MAKE IT WORK!!

  • The_Aimed_Wanderer@xanga

P.S. condoms are the only thing that protects against STIs!! period. Birth control does not at all! Spermicide does not!! use a condom, cause this guy sounds like he'll show his junk to anyone who asks!

  • NadoAngel@xanga

The only way to protect against STIs is to use condoms... or dont mess around at all. Or he could get into a long term monogamous relationship where he sleeps with only one girl and that can reduce the risk of STIs.

  • care@momaroo

The latest thing is vaginal film... crazy stuff.

  • chrissehko@xanga

@The_Aimed_Wanderer@xanga - i'm assuming that it's not the length but the width. look at the size of the ring on the bottom of the condom...it's a small elastic band that can cut off circulation, meaning blood flow, meaning no more erection. durr. why do you think there are different sizes in the first place? just for show? no. the band is larger and the condom is wider. yeah, they can stretch. but there is also a lot of friction involved.
i know quite a few guys who need to wear larger size condoms, like magnums, for width and not length. someone with an average length but more-than-average width. it happens.

and the only REAL way to protect against STDs is abstinence. condoms are only second best.

  • The_Aimed_Wanderer@xanga

@chrissehko@xanga - yes you are right about abstinence. But I have learned that saying dont have sex to the sexually active doesnt really work! Thank you for correcting me though. I will give you that. But I never said anything about the length or width of a condom. The ring on the bottom does stretch and the there are large condoms that yes do have a larger ring. Of course I do not have a penis and I dont engage in sex, but the point I was trying to make was that where there is a will there is a way. There are condoms for larger penis. I use to teach safer sex, and had many display condoms. I just dont want this guy to say because I have a huge penis I cant use condoms, that sounds sketchy to me.

besides diaphragm for the ladies, there's also something called an Intrauterine device (iud). you would need a doctor to insert this and regularly checked. I believe it could stayfor about six months. it's supposed to stop the sperm from swimming up to our Fallopian tube but this isn't as effective as condom of course. it also has many side effects like pelvic inflammatory disease etc. you or ur friends should definitely talk to their doctors about alternatives. but seriously, nothing beats the condoms
  • kor_girl@xanga

thanks for the feedbacks everyone. i'm forwarding this entry's link to his email; he's a bit embarassed but glad that there are some "options" to consider.

  • XDaemonessX@xanga

My husband actually has this issue (we don't use condoms anymore, well, actually we never did.) but we did try one of the new colored ones, and there was no way that thing was going on him comfortably, so we chucked it,  BUT, my point is that he used to get his condoms online at the Magnum website.  They have up to XXL, or they used to anyway... I haven't been there in YEARS.

  • HeLLo_Bianca@xanga

How can it not fit him?  I bought magnums and i stuck my hand and arm in it without it ripping or anything.  They stretch like crazy.
