OK, so before I have people cursing me out and everything, I'll let you know this is more of my personal system of categorizing women. Some to most of you are bound to disagree with the distinctions. At the risk of an unpopular/controversial entry, though, here is a little tripartite female taxonomy:
Hot Girls A Hot Girl, to me, is one who is appealing mostly for her looks. This is not to say that Hot Girls can't be intelligent or charming or anything else positive. But those qualities are certainly not going to be focal points. For the sake of a celebrity exemplar, I'll choose Adriana Lima. I don't know that I would date her and I actually think she's a bit overrated, but she certainly is attractive. Hot Girls may or may not be relationship-type, but you shouldn't be too surprised if they turn out to be the latter and all style, no substance.
Cute Girls A Cute Girl, to me, is one who most men would find attractive but wouldn't call a "knockout" either.
In my mind, a Cute Girl is one you'd be more prone to hanging out with or having a relationship with. For the sake of another example, I'll choose Alyson Hannigan. I find her very cute, and especially when I imagine her as Lily from "How I Met Your Mother," she is the kind of person I'd want to get to know more intimately.
Beautiful Girls A lot of people will look at someone like Ms. Lima and say she is "beautiful." However, I find the maxim holds that "beauty is only skin deep." That is, true beauty is on the inside. Of course, it's going to be hard for you to appreciate a woman's inner beauty if you find her physically unappealing. Still, when it comes to which celebrity I'd call beautiful, I really don't have an answer. You really need to get to know a woman to find out if she's beautiful, I reckon, so you really need to spend time with her. Whereas Hot Girls might be interested in only one-night affairs, and Cute Girls would be good as friends or dates for a little while, Beautiful Girls are the kind you want to and hopefully do marry. They're the kind you want to show off to your friends and say, "Yeah, fellas, she's mine."
If you take anything from this classification, it's that some young men do still believe that inner beauty counts for a lot. I find that without inner beauty, you can only be happy for so long.

>.< it's willow from buffy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been called all three, what does that mean, hm?
props.
your examples are really good btw. lol.
cute = hermione/emma watson. she's becoming hottttttttttttttt.
wow I didn't realize how hot Adriana Lima is until now
I too follow this classification. Well done sir.
Aw, I like this ^__^'
Alyson IS cute! And pretty :)
Your last paragraph is the best of all your paragraphs.
<-----beautiful
aww your definition of beautiful is so cute, it was my fav paragraph. i like this blog.
Thank you very much. A lot of people don't understand or are incapable of differentiating the two. I really appreciated this.
i've always been labeled at different times 1 of the 3. i don't take offense in it if someone calls me cute, because it doesn't always mean that. a guy once told me that when he calls me cute, it's because he thinks i have a baby face and i look young. so i've always taken that into consideration. plus, i don't mind people thinking i'm younger than my real age.
Ahhh, the last paragraph made me smile :)
But wow, Adriana Lima is hot... I never noticed lmao.
Cute girls are usually the best ones.
Nice blog! I've always wondered about the different classifications.
I haven't been called cute in the longest. Does pretty=beautiful?
Thats how I always that it was catergorized.
I can agree with that.
Interesting.
lols well, less insulting than all the mancouch ones on the subject
very nice. after that other post about how "cute" is in insult, I was a bit concerned because I'm usually described as being "cute".
this is soo true . (:
very nice, i like it. :D
I think almost always im considered cute
i guess cause im short hehe
@Kathleen_g@xanga - are you asian? if so, then you're probably called cute for a reason. Just sayin...beauty may only be skin deep, but genetics is deeper than the ocean that flows within.
@doLc3@xanga - Meh I've always thought she looked horrid in candids without makeup. Alessandra fan, though! <3
