I personally hate the fact that when I text people and they don't reply. I find that kind of rude because to me I feel like the person sending you the text message actually took the time to send you something and remembered that you exist and he/she wanted to tell you something. He or she actually took the time to think about you. Even if it's not a phone call, he or she still remembered you.
If I start figuring out that they're ignoring my text messages, I complain.. I say something. But once I get fed up, I just stop texting and never text them again, except for the occasional happy birthday text. I find it sometimes impolite to ignore someone's text message EVEN if you saw it 5 hours later...still reply right?
WRONG, some people just read and ignore.
But I still reply even if I saw the message HOURS later. I would tell them I was doing something earlier and didn't get to my phone until now and reply. If they sent you something, they're obviously looking for you to reply back or give some sort of feedback. Just like if you had a missed call, you would at least call them back or find them somehow and ask why they called.
So why do people just read and ignore the text message? Except for the fact that you don't like the person, and assuming that they are your friends, don't they find it rude? Or don't they think that the person is waiting for you to reply?
editor's note: I ignore texts if they are late at night and I'm half asleep or it's something like "lol" - COME ON!

I ignore text messages when I'm busy..I'll read them then put my phone back up & usually forget about them.....
I do eventually respond to every message I get but my phone will only hold about 20 texts max and so if I don't get to them before it's full all the texts after it fills up get dropped. I am simply not tied to my cell like some people are and I find that my friends do sometimes get really ticked about me "ignoring" them when in actuality I am just out living my life and to me the phone is not my life it is simply a tool that is useful at times.

i try to be prompt and reply to ppls texts and get pretty frustrated when they don't respond to me. But I don't respond if it's late at night. In that case I'll reply later. I agree though, I can't stand it when ppl don't respond to my texts.
I have to say, I'm guilty for that sometimes : ( though I usually do respond back sometimes.

Well... I don't know. I think yeah, people should answer, but if you keep answering each other, it's going to go on forever- because obviously, you HAVE to answer each text. That's pretty much what it looks like you're saying here. Hopefully, you meant like if someone asked you a question or something where it would be obvious that someone should answer.
i 100% agree with you. but i always get a reply because i only send important messages. Messages such as "how are you" are plain boring and don't bear much weight, it's forgettable,

I know the people I text the most and who text back the most. Some people just aren't text people. And some, like myself, are big text people.
Whats the most rude is if you're working and you can't text back and they keep texting saying
"hello!?
"are you there?!"
"..."
those annoy me and I take my time to reply.

I ignore calls too. It's crazy. Sometimes I just can't deal with people's shit.
I don't have text, but I come upon this on AIM. I ignore it if it's some annoying/creepo person and I just don't have the heart to block them.
People probably don't text you back because they don't want to have a full out conversation, I hate when people will text me a hundred times in a row, and then they get irritated because I don't text them back, well I don't text them back because I am annoyed at then blowing my phone up. Not everyone has there cell phone in hand 24/7 like some people. It's not rude not to text back.
I ignore text messages and calls all the time. I don't mean it to be rude though, and I make sure my friends know that I usually don't answer back when I first meet them.

Texts can be frakkin' expensive.
I hate that. Especially when it's something really important too. I admit I'm guilty of it a few times, but that's either because I don't like a person, the conversation just plain died, or they only replied back with "Lol."
The only time I don't reply is if you're just plain annoying, you ask a dumb question, or I'm sleeping/half asleep. Other than that, I reply to almost everyone.

the type of messages i don't reply to:
1 word texts eg. lol, ok etc
notifications eg. 7pm george st outside movies
if i read them late at night
those are just some but i dont tend to reply if they aren't asking a question or if its totally not important after 3 texts that, they are just bored at work.
Not really, maybe you're just saying somethin like "hey" or the person lost their phone or cant talk.
I turn my cell phone off when I sleep. If it is that important CALL that person and ask them. I always say if it's important they'll leave a message. I hate having an actual LONG conversation over text but I've had to do it because that's the only way to get ahold of a person (that person happened to be my ex.) & that they would actually respond. .I don't have unlimited texting, I only get 200 a month. I still don't understand how people can text 24/7. I could go on but I won't.Yeah, I am bad at calling people back & sometimes bad at texting back- depending on what it is.
