Checking the Instructions: Sex Manuals
Recently I picked up "Sex For Dummies" from my local Borders, more to use as a gag gift for my cousin than anything else. I didn't intend to actually use it. Back when I got married, my wife and I had purchased the Kama Sutra and "The Joy of Sex," and they served us well in figuring out how to insert Tab A into Slot B. I thought we knew all we needed to know. But as I was flipping through "Sex For Dummies," I was struck by just how in-depth it was. It went farther into dispelling myths about sex, explaining the processes of sex, and really just clearing up little mysteries - mysteries I'd still had after years of marriage. While the Kama Sutra has more positions, and "The Joy of Sex" talks more about foreplay, "Sex For Dummies" is probably the one I'd give to my son or daughter if they were about to get married.
This book is inspiring all sorts of blog ideas in my head. In the future, you will probably see entries here on
--the two types of erections that men can get
--the G-spot: does it exist?
--favorite positions
--tips for a virgin-on-virgin wedding night (with anecdotes from my own). But for now, I'll simply ask:
Have you read any manuals or "How-to" books on sex? Or did you learn what you know from others or through trial-and-error? What are some good books on sex that you'd recommend?

I think the Karma Sutra only works for the extreme agile folks. There's absolutely nothing wrong with books but I think trial and error's more fun because you're both exploring and discovering at the same time. Just steer clear from watching porn because it gives off the wrong idea. No, don't porn kiss her and don't hold on to her head and mouth fuck her.
Two types of erections? I just learnt something new!
I think that if you have to learn from a "sex manual" after you're already having sex it's kinda pathetic, no offence. But, personally, I studied sex extensively for two years before I lost my virginity and so far he still thinks that I am even better than even some of the most experienced women he has been with. While men are better at learning through experience, when it comes to women I think it is much better for them to wait as long as possible as learn as much about it as they can BEFORE their first time. I asked several people questions about what I wanted to know, I did research on the internet, I did personal "experiments" on more personal things. Then when I had my first time, I had only one or two questions for my sexual partner and already pretty much knew what I was doing.
So, in my humble opinion, sex manuals are best for virgins to figure things out before their first time. After that there are always more things to learn through trial-and-error about little details such as how to do certain little tricks like circling your hips and how to make certain positions work that you can only figure out by trying it yourself. This is also made even better through communication with your partner about what you are doing that they like and vice versa.
So, yeah, learn about it BEFORE you do it and it will do wounders for your sex life.
I almost got myself the "Periodic Table of Sex positions", but I figure it wouldn't flow well with my parents at the time.
those 'how to' books are as thick as yellow pages, I don't have the patience to read them.
Ugh, please, ix-nay on those future posts. There's enough sex talk on Datingish already. Don't we have more important things to discuss?
two types of erection?
I know there's two types of sex: the good and the bad. that's all I need to know, but do share your endeavours.
those books mentioned arent kinky enough for me...
WAIT... two types of erections?
And, do you see the woman on the front of that book.. I don't feel comfortable getting sex advice from her, honestly..

Ask Men.com. Everything I ever needed to know, and from a guy's perspective. SCORE.
Dr. Ruth? HOW OLD is she? Do I really need her advice on how to best remove a women's corset? Or how the cotton gin can be used as a sex toy?
@GiantUnicorn@xanga - Haha. Oh man, I love that movie. I was bored once night and randomly found it and watched it.
xo
LOVE LINE FTW. I love Dr. Drew. I just do. He is amazing. And Dr. Sue Johnson.
Oh and I learn things from the sex blogs on here. Haha.
xo
LOL, no... thanks.
Interesting!
I wish I'd read a a post with tips for a virgin-on-virgin wedding night before I got married. But things did turn out surprisingly well and pleasurably, despite neither of us knowing what we were doing, really. We did read several sex books people gave us before we got married, and while that was helpful, just about every book was also halfway full of a lot of useless-to-us and redundant information. They were books intended mostly for old marrieds and had a lot of info about sex problems and aging and stuff we really didn't need to know for a few more decades. Guess it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
that old lady looks creepy. does she really have to teach me about sex?
I always like going through those sex books because there is always something new to learn...sex is ever evolving I feel and there is so many ways you can please and be pleased....plus its fun :)
haha , i learned sex from porn the .. most popular way
you wanna hear about sex manuals?About a week ago, my uncle sent me The Guide to Getting It On: Sixth Edition..... as a graduation present. Its literally a text book. I haven't taken it out of the packaging yet lol
I never read any books or manuals on how to. I just got right into it and went from there to say.
But sounds interesting actually. May have to browse a copy next time I go to a book store.
