  • What Is It with MSN And Relationship Drama?

I've been editing Datingish for over a year now, and it seems like all the major online drama between guys and girls occurs on MSN. AIM is apparently for more casual chatting (hey/sup/nmu/chillin), Yahoo! Messenger doesn't typically have any crazy stories associated and I've never heard a story about Gchat.

Help a girl (who only grew up on AIM) out: What is it about MSN that inherently causes drama? Have you or your friends had MSN wreak havoc on a relationship?

My cousin had an online relationship through MSN chat. It was dramatic updates day in and day out for two years.

I don't get it either and I used MSN.

Apparently, not as much as others.

I've never dealt with any sort of drama on it, but you are right. I hear about it a lot.

I just think MSN allows people to easily webcam and whatnot so it allows for online relationships to occur more regularly whereas most people aren't aware that AIM and YIM has those features as well. Then again most of my friends use AIM instead and I'm unaware of any of my friends having online relationships unless online-friends count. No drama though...

  • splitsecondshot@xanga

Lol. I prefer personal relationship, but I'm just guessing people use MSN becuase "AIM is sooo two years ago" :)

  • abcdefgaby@xanga

AIM is boring and the noises annoy me. And as for Yahoo not having any interesting stories. Welll... let's just say you haven't seen what my friends and I talk about on there.

  • taaru@xanga

@abcdefgaby@xanga - You could just set it so there are no sounds.
I've only used MSN once and it was for a group project. I like AIM better...

  • nelio2k@xanga

either way, AIM or MSN is just a medium. Drama can happen regardless of the form of communication.

@taaru@xanga - Haha, that's true. Idk, I like MSN the most. And then Yahoo.

  • ViciousGrin63@xanga

I've never really had any relationship drama over MSN. Other kinds of drama, sure. But that's just kind of what happens when you're too immature to talk to someone in person. Or even on the phone.

    Oh well.

  • jeezshoua@xanga

Usually when you chat, you give out your e-mail that's usually a hotmail account which lead to chatting on MSN (and that's internationally speaking).  When I had AOL, I would chat on AOL from time to time but most of the time, I use my MSN account.  It's easier because most of the computers have MSN on it and most people use it.

Regardless if you use AIM, Yahoo, MSN, whatever.. if drama is bound to happen, it's going to happen.

  • JessxMaxine@xanga

drama happens on aim, yahoo and msn. drama is everywhere. lol.

    xo

  • PJrhymeswithcoolJ@xanga

I imagine the most stories come from MSN because its the most used messenger dealy? I assume anyways.

    AIM sucks too much anyways.
  • bluedreamer85@xanga

hahah i had always figured it was because a lot of people use msn and yahoo to webcam.

maybe thats why theres so much drama.

  • PenaltyLife@xanga

it's probably just because msn is BETTER than aim, and if you want to have an actual conversation without wanting to kill yourself because the quality of the program you're using is shit, then you'll probably use msn.

thus, more actual conversations, and more drama.

  • love_confusion19@xanga

haha... ahh msn. unfortunately i've had some msn relationship drama before, obviously would be better to figure these things out face-to-face but I'm just too impatient for some things and msn just seems to be the quickest way of finding out things out apparently :P

  • mywordsx@xanga

I like MSN sooo much better. It's easier to webcam/nudge, all that lol... I don't like the noises AIM makes D: .

Though my friends and I had a couple dramas of our own too xD.

  • dearFLOPPY@xanga

i don't know, everyone uses MSN + not AIM so much, so i think its pretty obvious why MSN = drama most of the time. and plus, when all your friends have MSN, its so much easier to send a mass message or have a conference convo. :P

I had huge relationship drama on MSN.. wow lol. I never realized it
happened so.. more than average. I do use AIM the most now that I am
out of that relationship. I used to webcam and mic with my ex gf very often on MSN. The client itself works a lot better than AIM does for me in that regard.

  • Lily_dragon912@xanga

    @bella_esperanza@xanga - haha sooo true

But I found that I migrated from AIM to Gchat to MSN now. xD

    And drama will happen anywhere.

  • duckphuck@xanga

no one where i live uses AIM

  • BimBo_HiPPo@xanga

MSN, AIM and yahoo messenger are all exactly the same thing, the only difference with it is that different countries of peoples seem to use different things.
depending on what is "IT" and actually lasted.

i dont think it has anything to do with peoples getting into dramas because of what kind of messengers they use.

  • kairi_kawaii@xanga

Uh. I use Skype now. I find that it's a lot more reliable than MSN (which I used to use the most) especially because of the fact that my connection is usually faulty and major fail.

But yeah, drama will happen anywhere, regardless of chat program. Heck, I've even heard of drama happening on FB chat...

  • uwrote
    yay!

I think there is a combination of things that seem to make MSN drama center. I've used all of them and (imho) no one is particularly better. I agree with some of the other who have commented that it is also dependent on the people you are talking with.

I have no data or supporting articles to support this, only from my experience in wandering around the thing (MSN) in general. I think MSN was trying to be a more sophisticated site with all these options for "adults" (maturity wise) and legitimate lines of things, so their chat application was already at this level in "you have to be serious to use this". It also depends on what you intend to do with the thing. For example, you may want to use one for just your friends and another for those relationship things or another for just exploring. My personal example is I have a few blogs and each with a different type of subject. Obviously, I prefer the one that I have the most fun on but that's based on what you set it up for.

Without a smile or laughter, how can a place be pleasant for long?

I use one of those chat programs that allow me to log in to all or a few at a time, so it really doesn't make a difference to me. (Well, that is when I sign in at all.)

I am not sure if this helps you any but great post/question.

My ex roommate used to go on webcam with guys on msn, even though she was in a serious relationship at the time. She claims she never showed anything while in the relationship, and sometimes her boyfriend knew she was talking to people. However, I know that she was shown certain things and would sometimes talk dirty to the guys.  I guess there is a reason why that relationship didn't last...
