  • Do You Eat Less Around Your Date?

There is such a high demand for women to be always put together, look healthy, skinny (yes, there is a difference between healthy and skinny.) and at their best.

I'm pretty small, very petite, only 5'1" and even I find myself picking at my body. I inevitably keep telling myself "I'm too fat here. I need to work out more. My cheeks are too big. My teeth aren't straight enough." And then it begins to affect my eating. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bulimic or anorexic. This isn't one of those posts. But today, while searching I stumbled upon This Is Why You're Fat and while reading it I've discovered that I've barely eaten today. In fact, this week, I've barely eaten at all. Today, all I've had to eat was a few cookies, a bite of chicken (seriously, just a bite) and a microwaveable burrito. Not my healthiest day, I know. (Look, there I go again. Picking at myself to be healthy when I only weigh 106 pounds. I might be too skinny.)

But that's just some background information. The real point of this post is this.

I find myself on dates, eating very slowly and cautiously. I don't want to spill anything, yet I don't want to look fat in front of him. If I get a sandwich, I'll pick off the pieces. If its pizza, I eat the toppings first, then the bread. Pretty weird, I know. Sometimes I'll order something big and only finish three-quarters of it.

So ladies, around your men, or on dates, do you eat less? Or do you eat neatly so you don't seem like a slob? Or do you just eat less in general because of the pressure to be skinny in today's society? And men, do you like your ladies to eat whatever they want and be on the voluptuous side, or do you like them petite?

And yes, I know that you can be healthy and voluptuous.

I usually eat a little slower than usual but that's just because of the nerves after a while I'll eat how I usually do. However, the men don't seem to care how you eat. They're just trying to stuff their faces too I think it's us girls that focus too much on this stuff so eat what you want. If they're going to be around for a while, they'll find out how you normally eat anyways.

i like girls i date to be healthy not by skinny or fat means. like i could not date some oen who does not eat but at the same time i could not date some one who is constantly eating

  • xnotxbeautifulx@xanga

    guilty :/
when I go on a date with someone I'll pick at my food as to pretend that I'm eating it and I'll only eat a couple of bites.

and that link, ewww!! haha but so fun to look at.

When I'm eating around my boyfriend I eat more.  That's because he tries to make sure I'm taking care of myself.  I have a tendancy to forget to eat, or to put it off for a while and he's trying to get me to start eating healthier.  Ever since I've been going out with him I've gotten a lot more color to my skin.  I'm not so pale anymore even though I'm not going out in the sun much, and no weirdly colored spots from malnutrition.

What I heard is that when you eat less your body thinks that it needs to start storing up energy as fat because it doesn't know if it'll get enough nourishment the next time you eat.  It's survival.  And it's only making things worse.  So eat, darnit!

Whaaat? I eat even more on dates because if the guy I'm with can't handle a girl that can eat, I wouldn't be able to date him.

  • mindyeat@xanga

I eat alot! Ha Ha even when im out on a date i tend to eat extra, but guys always compliment me when i eat more than them for some reason! cause i still maintain a good weight. Im not fucking gonna starve myself for some guy fuck that. I usually am more hungry when im around someone i love for some reason. <3

  • Wait_by_Moonlight@xanga

With my most recent boyfriend, I am just never hungry around him.  So I end up eating less than half of what I normally do while he's around.  Crazy stuff.

I eat a lot even when I'm on dates, and I probably look like a slob. It's all good though.

  • ViciousGrin63@xanga

I try to eat as neatly as possible because I don't want people thinking I'm a slob.

I ate four slices of pizza pretty fast in front of the guy I like, but then again, he ate the same amount in the same manner.

lol, I was telling him to guess my weight anyway and he said he didn't want to say something because he thought it would make me mad, but i'm like, don't worry about it, people are always completely off about my weight, lmfao.

he was serious when he said he thought i was 115, but i'm actually like 30 lbs more than that :P

i either eat the same as them, or sometimes less depending on what mood I'm in.

  • softaswater@xanga

i try to eat slower just to enjoy the meal more. but usually i eat whatever he does when im with my boyfriend which is usually more than i would normally.

and your a normal weight, youre not too skinny. but you are a great weight. :)

I think a little less around other people in general.  Or sometimes it depends on what the people around me are eating, cause I don't want to look like a hog, while they are eating like birds.  My last boyfriend liked me to eat a lot while we were out, he would be proud of me for putting away a huge hamburger.  Probably why I gained a gazillion pounds...

  • xxthatsmexx@xanga

It depends on the person.  If I'm really comfortable around someone, I'll eat the way I want.  If the person isn't suited to see my monstrous side, I won't eat like a maniac.  It's not as much that I'm self-conscious as it is being polite.  I'd rather not have ketchup dribbling down my cheek if I can help it. Haha.

  • DarcKleer@xanga

Whether I'm alone or with people I always eat slow. I lived 25 years of my life with a really narrow esophagus and had difficulty swallowing large amounts of food...well, large for me, average for anyone else. Last year I had it stretched but b/c I ate slow for so long I just kept the habit. I was out with a friend for her bday and her roommate made a comment of my eating habits...he thought it was cute how I took little bites. Sucks he turned out to be a jerk.

  • MauTimHoaSim@xanga

It depends on where my boyfriend and I go that day.  I'm a very picky eater so if we go to a place that I'm not particularly fond of then I won't eat that much.  However, I tend to pig out when we go to restaurants that I like.  I also make a big mess around him but am more proper around other people. =)

  • GaMeGurLsH@xanga

the more i've known them, the sloppier i will be.

  • MissPixieGlitter@xanga

no. why would i ever feel the need to eat less around men? avoiding messiness in the presence of company is etiquette, but eating less so men don't think less of you is just stupid.

  • quicksandbuddy@xanga

Girls who eat candy bars with silverware and pick apart fries drive me insane. It just seems so fake and/or self-conscious. Sometimes I just want to tell them to eat like a normal person.

I tend to eat slower around girls, but sometimes the food is so good that I'll end up scarfing it down anyway.

  • xjadersx@xanga

If it's a first date I eat less than usual just because I'm so nervous that I feel like if I eat too much I'll puke it up haha. I used to have a boyfriend who lived 2 hours away, and whenever I would stay at his house for a couple of nights I would barely eat anything each day. I'd lose about 5 pounds each time haha. I'm still like that around some people too.

With my boyfriend now, I eat when I'm hungry. I eat how ever much I want, because I know he does not care.

  • MangoWOW@xanga

I've been very open about the fact that eating in front of others is awkward and embarrassing for me, period. So in front of dates it's even worse. I make sure to take tiny bites and leave half of the food on the plate.

  • happyobligations@xanga

I eat less because I'm not thinking about the food. I'm thinking about my date and usually our conversation takes priority over my stomach.

  • InTheThin@xanga

I eat like an anorexic when I'm with a guy I think is attractive. I don't even try; I just subconsciously don't want to look gross in front of him, or I'm subconsciously trying to lose weight.

I always tell my friends I need more hot guys to eat meals with at college...it'd make me so much skinnier haha.

  • a_single_raindrop@xanga

No, I don't really care and just eat when I'm with my boyfriend. But when I'm with his family, I don't stuff my face lol.

  • proudsmartypants@xanga

I tend to eat "daintily" in general in front of people, not specifically dates or anything. It's probably part of a cultured front I put up. Although with my family...it's a different story. I usually eat as much as I want though, kinda pushing the thought that my metabolism can handle anything I throw at it most of the time. If a guy makes a comment about how much I eat, he's probably not worth my time anyway.
