I was watching a video from
Stop Making Sense today and was sort of blown away at how attracted I am to David Byrne - I see him as so talented, confident and simultaneously shy, which is incredibly hot.
ANYWAY, because musical talent and confidence are so intrinsically attractive, it got me thinking about which musicians I'd also like to spend time with. Let's start with David and see who else makes the list.
1. David Byrne
He plays
covers of Whitney Houston songs, he blogs, he bikes around NYC, he makes sweet music with Brian Eno. Come to me, David. My ideal date with him would be biking around the city together and then going out for tofu.
2. Elvis Costello

Honestly, I would screw up the entire date just by asking him to play me songs. "Wait, can you do
Alison or
Veronica really fast? Just play the solo from
Border Song for me, okay? Remember when you sang Radio, Radio on SNL? That was awesome." Once I finished asking him for performances, I think he and I would probably have tea and talk about socialism.
3. Mark Ronson
Okay, so I guess he's more of a
producer than a musician, but he and I would listen to Motown and '60s pop on vinyl. The sheer thought of it is leaving me giddy
4. Donny Hathaway
He took his life in 1979, so I'd go back in time and ask him to write gibberish songs with me at the piano and sing me
Jealous Guy. He also played ukelele, so I'd play banjo and we could duet on the stringzz.
5. Bret McKenzie
It doesn't matter what we'd do - it would be one of those nights where you'd come home with the hiccups from
laughing so hard. I can see us sitting around playing Scrabble and having to challenge him when he'd say "qzsyt" was a rare New Zealand flower.
6. Glen Hansard
If you've seen
Once, you understand. The man could (and did) write a song about
a vacuum cleaner...and it was adorable. I'd probably ask him to take me somewhere I'd never been and show me around - I feel like he'd have all sorts of interesting insights and observations that would leave me gawking at him and wondering what went on in his head.
7. Cody Chesnutt
Okay, so I might ask him to take off the hat. But I feel like the majority of the date would be spent talking about the universe, our place in it and how much we have to accomplish in such a short period of time. Then we would take out Casio keyboards and make
beautiful music (really).
8. Jeff Tweedy
I don't smoke, but I feel like that's what we would do on our date - sit on a stoop, flick ashes off cigarettes while I coughed, and
talk about life. This guy's been through a lot and I'd love to hear what his philosophies were on who we are and what the hell we're supposed to be doing.
9. Jeff Buckley
Jeff drowned at age 30, but he left behind fans who
wanted more from someone who was just getting started in the business. Given the option, I'd go back in time and ask him to teach me complicated guitar chords while we watched the rain from inside an old house (wow, that is creepily specific).
Which musicians do you find attractive? What would you do on your hypothetical dates?
