  • If Your SO Is Chatting On AIM While Talking on The Phone...

From past experiences, I have realised that it is extremely annoying when you're trying to talk to your SO on the phone and he is busy typing away on the computer, let alone chatting to other girls and laughing his head off at the conversations they are sharing. Well, have you ever noticed that "I'M HERE!!!" and it makes me look like I am literally talking to MYSELF on the phone. It even gets more annoying when you repeat things like three times just because they didn't hear it the first time. I guess it's okay if it was urgent, or plainly for platonic reason, but anything else is a "no".

So, I've learnt that when talking to a special someone on the phone, pay attention please OR just get off the phone until you're done doing whatever you are doing and then call me back. Maybe that is when we will have a decent conversation. I've tried chatting and talking on the phone a couple of times before. Never worked, or maybe I just can't multitask.

Do you mind if your SO is chatting whilst talking on the phone? Any stories to share?

One of my exes used to play Counter Strike ALL the time, and I'd be trying to talk to him on the phone at some points... then I'd just sit there silently until he got the point. It was especially annoying seeing as we were in a long distance relationship and only got to see each other every 3-5 weeks... or less.

Personally, I wouldn't appreciate that kind of thing too much. I would want their full attention. Well, you know, if we didn't see each other often. It would be like, "Hey! Give me thirty minutes, please."

That's never happened to me before (nor have I done it to anyone) but I can definitely see myself getting bothered if it were to happen.

I totally understand.  Of course, it depends on the situation --if we're both talking to multiple people at once, it tends not to be a problem.  In such cases, having them on the phone is really just cuz I like knowing that he's there, not because I have anything to say.  However, if one person is trying to talk/have a real conversation and the other is multi-tasking, that's just asking for trouble.

if he can listen and talk, then that's fine. or if we're talking about nothing significant. but if we're talking about something important, then you'd better not ignore me

@lilsexypyrogirl@xanga -  haha, i didn't just add it there to make it interesting. I know, because he says it.

If my boyfriend seems to be busy with anything (like the computer), I just tell him to call me back later after he's done with it. It either gets his attention, or he decides to call back later. And that works for me! :)

  • doLc3@xanga

i hate when he does this to me!

  • MOOOOOOF@xanga

yeah, it annoys the crap out of me.
so if i call, & he's busy on AIM chatting it up, i kindly tell him to gtfo it and hold a decent conversation with me, or call me back when he's finished doing what he's doing.

  • xxthatsmexx@xanga

I can do it every now and then, and some people are really good at multi-tasking.  When my friends and I do this to each other, we understand and blow it off as no big deal.  If it really bothers a person, I think he/she could suggest hanging up and calling back later, especially if the person on the other line doesn't realize what he/she is doing.

  • jiaying28@xanga

    i dont mind..he is just cute...haha

  • MochaSprinkle@xanga

Is it really that annoying? I'm always on instant messenger and I had no idea... oops!

  • redmakesmeblue@xanga

I don't mind talking to anyone on the phone when they're on the computer as long as they're listening... which is pretty rare. It annoys me to no end, otherwise.

  • heaventtonight@xanga

I'm very intolerant, so if my SO did that to me, I'd be like, "dude, break up with me NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" Anyway. It annoys me when my FRIENDS do that to me when I'm talking to them; I can't imagine how annoying it must be to have your SO do that to you. Are you sure that's normal behavior? Should you even be tolerating that stuff? Lol.

  • super_retarded_dork@xanga

Mm, yeah, I know how you feel. My SO did it to me all the time. It's so damn annoying. I've always brought it up to him and how I don't like how he does that. He stopped for awhile , but then it happened all over again. I'd be like ... "HELLO?!" and  he'd be like "Yeah...." Once I got so fed up, I just hung up on him. He called back but I was still furious. I guess that taught him a lesson because he never dared to do it again.

i HATE this! i used to be guilty of doing it, so now whenever i'm on the phone having a conversation with someone, i leave whatever i'm doing and just sit on my bed and talk to them so they have my full attention. some people don't realize that talking on the phone is nowhere near the same as chatting on IM. IM conversations lull and they don't have much substance since the response time is much longer than when on the phone. therefore it requires much less attention than being on the phone with someone, which is what some people don't get and it's soooo frustrating!

    great post!

  • bonEtuh@xanga

i don't mind because i do it too lol.

  • Rhapsodical_Hazie@xanga

I hate that.  So I hang up on whoever's doing it.  Maybe they'll get the point and get off the computer to call me back.

  • akarui_mitsukai@xanga

Seriously, right? 'specially in long distance relationship, where that's the main source of "quality time" you have with said individual. Don't watch TV or read a book either. Or even Xangas! lol. I'm so guilty of the reading xangas. But anywho.

Yeah, we need to give the person on the line attention if they're our S.O. That may mean not spending so much time on the phone together, but it will mean the time you do spend is more worth it, in the way I see things.

  • TiRocKiinPiinK@xanga

I don't mind because I do it too. I'm talented like that though.

  • DarkYangofICE@xanga

I dunno, it doesn't matter.. cuz I always have my fun with it when my SO isn't paying attention.. long as she isn't having all this fun with another dude...

he shouldn't want to be on msn when hes talking to me on the phone.

there was also some disturbing incidents with a boy i was dating who was on webcam with me not totally dressed and he was laughing at something i didn't say.... usually if he found something funny i said when we were on webcam, he'd smile or laugh to show me he did find it funny... wonder if he did that for other girls?
he did cheat on me so i guess i'll never know

  • xiaosnowtenshi@xanga

I've had my boyfriend talk to his friends while on the phone w/ me. Annoyed the heck out of me.
