Most of my parental explanations about where babies come from began with "well, when a man and a woman get married, love each other very much and decide they want a baby..." so back in the day, I automatically assumed that babies were brought by a combination of wanting and love (come to think of it, it kind of is a combination of those two...) on behalf of the parents.
Anyway, I assumed you could will a baby to be born because you were ready and loved your husband/wife and reallyreallyreally wanted a child. And that was not really correct.
I didn't buy the stork thing because my immediate association with storks was what I knew of Dumbo and Vlasic pickles.
"MOM! THE STORK ONLY BRINGS ELEPHANT BABIES"
"...and pickles!"
Where did you think babies came from before you found out what really needs to happen?

All I remember is that my mom told me that they come from mommies and daddies. She just never explained how. As I got older, I figured it out. Thank you, society ha.
from the leg.. the calf to be more precise. After dad gives a seed to mum the baby comes from the calf...
my mother bought me a book entitled "we're going to have a baby" just after this episode. i was 8 (and she was ... surprised)
I thought babies magically appeared in my mom's stomach and came out of her anus. lol
I remember asking my dad if I was covered in poop when I was born.
@xkthily@xanga - Haha, that's what I thought, too.
@xkthily@xanga - Me too. That's so gross now that I think about it.
Mum and dad never really explained where they actually came from, but i do remember mum telling me that they some from arm pits. I believed her
@xkthily@xanga - Me too. And a childhood friend reiterated this - she said babies come out your butt, and she knew this because her mom was a nurse. Hahaha. All I could think of is how awful that was.
When I was a kid, I didn't ask...
I thought that if you got married, your body knew you were married and babies just started showing up inside the woman's body and being born 9 months later. I had an aunt who had been a single mother before, and when I found out, I thought it just meant that sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and our bodies make babies without us being married and I really hoped that wouldn't happen to me.
When I found out where babies really did come from (my mom told me in very direct language), I was absolutely horrified and figured she was making it up. I liked my theory better. Then, when I was 11 and I listened to one of those "prepare for adolescence" tapes and they explained it, I thought, "crap. she was right. That's what I'll have to do if I want to have a baby." Now I am just the opposite. I want sex, but please, no baby just yet!
i believed the stereotypic, if you love each other very much then a baby will appear.. it doesn't work if you dont have enough love.
but really, i never questioned it when my bro was born when i was 9. looking back, i feel awkward for whining to my mom that i really wanted a younger sibling for several years leading up to that.. hah.
but wow, i never considered how they came out, nor did i realize that girls had an extra opening down there.
LOL I thought it came out the belly button when I was really young, then elementary taught me otherwise. We even had the pleasure of watching a video! yuckk.
I remember pretty much always getting the idea (my friends were horrible). The only thing I didn't get was how the baby managed to get food while it was in there... hah.
I used to think babies came from kissing!
Like, I accidentally kissed a boy when I was in 2nd grade and I worried for like 2 days that I was pregnant!
lol
I thought that when my parents kissed my mom would get pregnant lol
No one told me. I just knew.
Our parents had to put us together.
My mom and dad told me the same story about "when a mom and dad loves each other they have a baby." thing too, but my sister and I found out the real truth when I was 6 and she was 8, because my uncle who was drunk decided porn was a good educational video on how babies were made.....
I just figured it out.
i got the same story like you did from your parents too, but my parents added that when they went to the hospital, the doctors gave them a baby so i always assumed that babies were from the hospitals and my parents paid money to the doctors to give them a baby. gosh, i was so naive at the time. eventually i figured out how babies were made.
@my_final_username@xanga - you mean like an assembly kit? That's great!!
I pictured them being delivered... in a box.
But sex, on the other hand, well...
I didn't know that it was a penis/vagina thing. I thought that these fish-like things somehow got into my mom's belly.
Mom should've been more specific about sperm and eggs.
@xkthily@xanga - hahaha thanks for giving me that image.
I was so naive. I used to think the mom and dad would just pray for a baby and eventually it will start developing in the stomach.
I thought you could go to a store and choose from a group of babies. hahah
@EccentricSiren@xanga -
yes.
I used to think that after mom dad prayed really hard for the kid then after nine months my moms tummy would be cut and the baby would appear
