  • WYD Someone With a Prosthetic?

Okay, so I was watching Gattaca the other day and I came to the conclusion that Jude Law is even hot in a wheelchair. It got me thinking: would I date a guy with a prosthetic arm or leg? It sounds terrible, but all shallow thoughts aside, I would imagine it's a pretty big deal in a relationship. Even if a person is well adjusted and lives a very normal and functional life, it has to have some effect overall.

As for me, I think I would have to be in love with him beforehand. If something terrible happened resulting a prosthetic limb, I'd stand by my SO; however, I probably wouldn't seek someone out that I knew had a significant disability. No offense intended, just my personal opinion. What about you? Would you date someone with a prosthetic or a wheelchair?

    Of course I would!

I can understand that some people would be hesitant about it but not me. It doesn't make them any less of a person and wouldn't affect if I loved them or not.

i don't think it would matter like if the chemistry was there then sureee why not

  • bukeshow@xanga

maybe you could then do all the positions in the Kama Sutra book if they could remove a leg

  • lovethose__quotes@xanga

bukeshow@xanga - hahaha interesting way to look at it

but yes, I would. If there was a connection then I'd go for them :)

Why not!? ...I've got a mental disability, he's got a physical one...what a great balance! lol - Just kidding...but seriously, I don't know. I never really thought about it... I'm not opposed to the idea, but if it limited their mobility so much that I'd become his mother and not his girlfriend (changing his clothes for him, taking him out of bed), then I don't think I could do it. It sounds awful, but I don't think I could - I would have no problem befriending the person, but being in a relationship is another story... >.<

  • kieri126@xanga

hahahaha...this is too funny. I mean if you really love someone a missing limb shouldnt really matter...Iol but i dont knowww....im really shallow.

  • Non_Cherie@xanga

as long as it's not a prosthetic penis, i wouldn't mind all that much.

  • lolquack@xanga

Damn, I feel like an asshole. But
    No.

  • sozpa@xanga

If I'm in love with him, of course. No doubt in my mind.

  • UnopenedSuitcases@xanga

i dont know, i don think i'd mind, but then again, i don't know

  • StabbedPillow@xanga

How shallow are we willing to go with this? Would you date someone in a wheelchair? Would you date a homeless person? Would you date someone who doesn't know your language? would you date someone with pink eye? Would you date someone who uses linux? Would you date a former terrorist? Would you date someone that bites their nails? Would you date someone without a car? Would you date someone who uses the metric system?

    WTF people, personality?

  • nicoleantonia@xanga

I think I would, if there was a connection. As long as, agreeing with an aforementioned poster, I didn't have to literally take care of him like a mother. It also really depends on the guy's personality in general. If he's defeatist about his handicap, I wouldn't be able to be with him. I can't deal with pessimism, I have more than enough of that on my own! xD

  • chayswag@xanga

Depends on personality, and, yeah, on the degree of the disability.

And as long as he doesn't look like Jude Law. That man is horrendous, in my opinion.
If my boyfriend now was in an accident, and something like that happened, then absolutely. Even if it affected his penis :/
  • lovemonkeyy@xanga

I would definitely bump uglies with Jude Law wheelchair, or no wheelchair. LOL I thought he was really hot in Gattaca, though.

If the feeling is there, then why not? Because I'd see beyond his disability and love him for ... him. :)
  • anorexicart@xanga

im not being shallow, im going to be honest. unless that person was amazingly hot and funny, or i was previously in love with him, no i probably wouldn't :) x

  • AnchorsAway_Lays@xanga

it depends. i would not look at anyone in a wheelchair as a potential SO, but if there was an accident and i already knew them on that level, i would probably still pursue them.

  • KasumiCelesta@xanga

I don't think anyone goes out of their way to look for someone with a physical disability just to date them. That being said, if someone that I meet happens to have a disability, if I really come to love them it won't be a problem to me.

Maybe we should also consider if the situation were switched. If you lost a limb and became disabled, surely you would want someone to love you the way you are, right?

  • Beautiful_Disaster_74@xanga

I met a wonderful man named Neil ten months after he was wounded in Iraq.  He has a permanent tracheostomy, partial paralysis on his right side, aphasia (difficulty in finding the words he wants to use sometimes), a traumatic brain injury, adjustment disorder, and PTSD.

Our wedding will take place November 6th of this year.  And...that's your answer.

  • discoxapples@xanga

    @Non_Cherie@xanga - agreed. =D lol.

But yeah, if I became more of his mother, his keeper, than his girlfriend, then, no. Otherwise, why not, if he's cute, funny, and caring, then yeah, he's got me.

  • C0ll33Ncorps@xanga

I don't see how it could be that much of an issue.

  • mewithoutu77@xanga

    of course why wouldn't i?
