  • Message to Musicians: Love and Sex Aren't Always the Same Thing

A few of the other destination sites have mentioned Lady Gaga; Mancouch even effectively declared war on her. I don't mind her fashion or even her sound that much. It's the lyrics and theme from her hit single "LoveGame" that I take issue with.

The song begins with the lines, "Let's have some fun/This beat is sick/I wanna take a ride/On your disco stick." If you know what she means. Yet later in the song she sings, "Hold me, love me" and the chorus mentions a "love game". Quite obviously, though, she is not talking about love. She's really talking about sex.

Lest you think I'm singling out women, male singers are equal-opportunity offenders. Terius "The-Dream" Nash also has a very popular tune on the charts, "Rockin' That Thang" (note: I know the title is censored for the radio version).

Again, love and sex are incorrectly conflated. He sings, "Girl, I'm in love with you, baby/And I want you to know/That I'm hooked on your body/And I'm tryin' to be yours." Um, no, Mr. Dream, you're not in love with her. She's hot and you want to get to know her in an "intimate" way.

Of course, love and sex can coincide, and it sells better if you say you love someone as opposed to wanting to have sex with them. Still, it really seems like an affront to love when they use the word like that. Love means something, or at least it should.
