There’s Something about Mary
After the fall of communism many things in the world changed. There was no need to fear the KGB, no more race for space, no Khrushchev pounding his shoe at the UN, no more Berlin Wall. No more ”Iron Curtain.”
Yes, all of that has vanished but what about those scarf wearing, plump, toothless women…or the other version of them…you know the bearded ones that always won gold at the Olympics? Where have all the Babushkas gone?
I’ll tell you where they have gone. The answer in my mind is simple. It was all a conspiracy! That image of communism was obviously created by the West as anti communistic propaganda! A CIA ploy to make the rest of the world think that communism was a bad thing.
All of my images of the dark, drab, and “cold war” have now been shattered with the latest import from Russia…with love…the Russian woman.
Many of us have noticed the onslaught of these lovely tall fair creatures on the streets of Tokyo.
Oh of course I have also heard all the disparaging remarks about them. The “Natashas” as some call them in disdain.
I was however fortunate enough to get to know one of these Natashas recently. To protect her and my own somewhat tainted reputation I won’t say where we met and I will name her Mary.
There is truly something about Mary.
Mary is a totally new breed of woman. Her zest for discovery and her determination to enjoy life and I guess to break the bonds of the communistic world that we all heard about makes her delightful.
What I did not expect to find in her is her deep-seated family values. Her complete love of love. She is kind and sensitive.
If the rulers of the world had known this quality of the children of the "cold" war there would never have been a "cold" war!

... -___^
this post is so ... random.
it kinda kills your "communism is a conspiracy" argument when you remark on how mary has to "break the bonds of [her] communistic world" (which hasn't been around since '91).
=p
...okay cool?
having worked in Russia and several of the former soviet block countries since the early 90s I know it is easy for those in the US to think that they simply turned on a switch and poof everyone lives like we do...they didn't and they still don't @MissPixieGlitter@xanga -
@Gentemann@xanga - oh, i understand that a post-regime change nation doesn't magically switch. i was only commenting that since mary had to work to break the bonds of communism, it seems communism is a "bad thing" - not merely a propagandistic image promulgated by the CIA.
I don't really understand the fashion part of this post.
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - Neither do I. Datingish probably turned Communist
Slow day at Lovelyish?
I hate the name Mary... but the word babushkas make me laugh. My friends used to call me Grandma Babushka as a joke because I would occasionally wear scarfs on my head as a random funny.
i've been to the Russian airport two times. i was hanging around there for about 4 hours waiting for another plane. though i can say that i never actually walked around Russia, the people i was exposed to did not have me anywhere close to admiring their culture and or their people skills. i have another personal reason not to admire Russian women all that much, but that's for another discussion. glad you found a silver lining. and i like your default picture. it's funny, the protagonist from the movie was from Romania, right?
