Why Don't Some Women Appreciate Gifts?
I have enjoyed the company of a few girls recently...I thought they were a lot of fun to be around and I've always made casual conversation with them. One of them had a bad day recently, so I decided to buy the girl flowers as a nice gesture...and I got them thrown back in my face.
I've noticed these ladies have quickly judged me of who (they think) I am.... they are kinda acting a bit funny for grown women.
What do you think about this, ladies and gentlemen?

I can only assume that they think you're trying to buy them over with gifts.
Me, I think it's a nice gesture.
i think flowers and cards are a waste of money. sorry if i'm a cynic. i'd rather spend time doing something together with you
I have a feeling you're leaving out part of the story.
@mycontinuity@xanga - Agreed.
Maybe theyre not her favourite flowers?
OR maybe she is a flowerphobic..
maybe she's allergic to flowers. Then she'll be throwing it at you!
but that's kinda... weird. maybe she thinks you're gross and nasty and sick. Or that you are trying to get her to like you.
Maybe she isn't that type of "flower" girl. Or she's just a bitch, no offense at all to you or her, just making a generalization based on the information given. A nice girl, even if she didn't like flowers, would accept them and at the very least just throw them away, or say "thanks, but don't do that again".
cause she's a psycho bitch. (unless you left something out, at least.) hope you flipped her off.
i should also add, "i was having a bad day" is a completely illegitimate excuse.
If a new guy bought me flowers, other than a "Hi, I'm picking you up, you look nice" gesture, I'd be a little put off too. Just because it seems a little...I don't know, comfortable?
But if you've been seeing them seriously, then there's no reason. Unless they're bitches and think you're just trying to buy them off or something. Which is seriously dumb.
Hey! Flowers is nothing. I have had toasters, nose hair clippers, and mouth wash thrown back at me. Ungrateful winches!!!!
Well I don't know about other girls, but I looooove gifts! Especially if it's in the form of cash, buuuut... I'm not picky =P so send it on down my way next time! haha
@mycontinuity@xanga - same here...the blog's not complete...
@mycontinuity@xanga - agreed. something must've happened before or in between.
ugh! that is just so ungrateful....you can give those flowers to me =D
@mycontinuity@xanga - I agree. I think there's another part of the story not mentioned. I don't think any woman would throw away flowers unless the guy was a jerk or something. Your username reveals a bit more about you.
Don't buy them gifts if you don't know them well enough to know if they even like gifts.
I guess some people here are holding their breath for you to make yourself a villain. Get on it!
They are crackpots, don't waste time or money on them in the future.
Flowers and candy have gotten to be generic. If you are going to give a girl a gift, make sure it is thoughtful. If she is worth it, she will be appreciative.Â
Whether there is a part of the story missing here, or not...You pretty much see why gifts are a lost cause. (Just by the few comments here already).
What is supposed to be a very...very..simple gesture turns into alterior motives, no matter what the motivate is, a gift is always bad knews on the occasion. Which is sad, since gifts are only accepted in b-day parties, holidays, or "get well soon", just as they are...GIFTS!
Having that gift thrown back in your face, no matter what the situation (Bad day, not feeling well, etc.) should NOT be thrown back in the face, that is just brutally unneccessary, and i would hand it right back to them, making sure they recognize a gift was meant for them.
To those who say that this blog isn't "complete", just...stop it, gifts do not neeeddd backstory. If there is an alterior motive for the gift, it is for the future. (There is nothing for you to go by, but what has been said, Pleaseeee stop the suspicion"
To those who think she is ungrateful, thank you, period.
To those who need "better gifts" than the generic...earned money was spent to give someone something, and no matter what size, shape, or worth it is, its a gift..."the gesture counts" right? (On the other hand, I am the type of person that gives handmade gifts, alot of symbolic origami has been given, as a gift, and no other motive for it).
Maybe she was just some mental loony that isn't worth a bouquet of roses.
Or maybe she just expected and all expense paid trip to Hawaii.
I'd be a little freaked out if i didn't know you very very well and you bought me flowers. i wouldn't throw them in your face though! that takes balls. haha
@mycontinuity@xanga - i agree too.
Ah, that sucks. Personally I prefer useful gifts, and hopefully anyone who knows me well enough could catch on to that. I'm kind of a practical person, so at the very least I'm not into flowers. CD's and snacks are perfect. Homemade is a bonus.
Well, if these women you met are urban city girls (born and raised in the city), then you'd just have to accept the fact that they are what they are--a product of their environment.
To that person who said flowers and candy are generic. I say that's BS. It's the thought that counts, never the object itself.
To the other folks who said that the blog was incomplete, I don't dispute that the poster may have left out some important details since it is the details that make the story. But the question isn't "Why don't women appreciate gifts?" It's "Why don't SOME women appreciate gifts?" That suggests that he means a very specific target group of women who refuse to accept gifts. If he left out details, then I guess he's looking for justification, as in a few "feel-good" ego-boosting comments from the ladies, or if not, then he is in fact asking what your thoughts are. Or a third option--perhaps he is just curious.
Well that as rude of her.
I loves flowers!
And that wasn't a very mature thing for her to do.
Who says you can't buy her gifts to make her feel better.
I guess it's just her personality.
All I'm saying is I love to receive gifts, so I would never throw something that someone got me. especially because it was a very nice gesture.
