  • Five Movie Moments That Make Me Swoon

Okay, so I'm not about to say "you had me at hello!" to the boyf, but there are some pretty incredible romantic moments from movies and TV that have either made me audibly "aww" or get goosebumps. Here are five of my favorites in no particular order (be warned that there are some spoilers listed):

    1. Say Anything: Lloyd Dobler holds his boombox up outside Diane Court's house and blasts Peter Gabriel.

Honestly, it's Romeo and Juliet with a little more synthesizer added in. Lloyd (played by John Cusack) is fed up and doesn't know what to do to win Diane (Ione Skye) back, so he plays "their song" outside her window. Win.

    2. Annie Hall: Annie and Alvy cook lobster together.

Alvy (Woody Allen) is more than a little skittish, so when Annie (Diane Keaton) makes him drop a feisty lobster into the pot, she captures the moment with photographs. Later in the movie, when they're fighting and Alvy comes over to kill a spider for Annie, we see that she's framed and hung the photos of Alvy on her bedroom wall. Awwwww...

    3. Before Sunrise: Jesse and Celine at the record store.

Only having met hours before on a train, Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine check out a record shop and listen to an inappropriately romantic song. For an uncomfortably long eighty second shot, you can see Jesse holding himself back from grabbing Celine and kissing her like he wants to do so badly . . . but she plays it cool. Ultimately, Jesse gets his way :)

    4. Singin' In The Rain: Don tells on Lina and gets the girl.

There's a reason this is one of my favorite movies of all time. Long story short, actress Lina Lamont's voice is less than desirable and Kathy (the woman standing behind her) is the one whose voice replaces Lina's in a movie. Lina's jealous, blackmails the movie studio and her co-star, and this is when they get their revenge on her.

It should be noted that I tear up EVERY SINGLE TIME I see this clip. I have no idea why - I've seen the movie 50 times and I know it's coming.

    5. Les Poupées Russes (Russian Dolls): Hand Holding 101

Translated: I felt like her hand was saying, "oh...really? are you sure?" and my hand told hers, "yes, I'm sure - I want to, and I can tell you want to, too." I felt her hand that held mine so strongly - she wanted to, too.

It's crazy how strong these completely stupid moments are so important. One thing that lasts twelve seconds in your life and it stays with you profoundly for the rest of your life.

Typically, in a romantic film, it ends there. The best part is the story - it's not to tell what happens afterward. But in this case, what's interesting is what happened next.

Okay, seriously, I feel so mushy after posting these, but they're some of my favorites.
