UPI:
A Detroit judge said his policy of sentencing deadbeat dads to watch Maury Povich's popular talk show is aimed at educating the fathers.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Wade McCree, who is scheduled to appear on Thursday's episode of "Maury," said he got the idea to force delinquent dads to watch the show, which frequently features paternity issues, after watching a few episodes, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.
McCree said the men are ordered to watch the syndicated talk show at least once a month and discuss it with their probation officers.
"Some of these men in my court watch the show and see how ridiculous some of the deadbeats look, and then they realize it's them," McCree said.
Sounds hilarious, but it actually makes sense. Check out hours of paternity fun on YouTube

Do you think this is a good idea? Do you love the paternity episodes of Maury as much as I do?

This is hilarious. Watching the paternity episodes of Maury is one of my guilty pleausures.
That is just weird. Although, I can definitely see the intent in sentencing these deadbeat dads to watch Maury.
If ever I watch Maury, it's to remind me how lucky I really am that I'm not any of the unfortunate children who cheat and be deadbeat dads, or that i was never a man in a gang or promiscuously sleeping around with babies. It makes me realize hwo good I have it. And it's pretty shallow I meet a pretty much hated guilty pleasure of a show to make me keep that in mind.
No, for the idea. I don't know if it's a good idea. I'm more interested if it is an idea hat'll work. My idea would have been to show them Steve Wilkos, but that's me.
lol
watch tv a spunishment? why not!
The unending stream of material for Maury's "You Are (Are Not) The Father" makes me sick.
Well.. I don't know. I think that's kind of lenient. Then again, if they haven't committed any other crime other than being worthless pieces of shit, then it's not like they can be sentenced to an actual punishment.
Whether it works or not.. I'd like to see scientific proof of how often it works. Like a case study. I don't figure it works that much. Many people are in the mentality that nothing is their fault, it's not that bad. Most of the boys probably look at that, laugh, and talk about how they're glad they aren't like that. Or, worse, pity the bastards on the show.
My cousin is a deadbeat dad, and I doubt watching Maury would phase him at all. Deadbeats are deadbeats, meanwhile I'm just skeptical. To me this is about like how Judge Hatchet sends people to do this or that to give them "life changing experiences" that supposedly make them "so much better" in a matter of days. I think that's a load of bull.
They get super boring after the second episode :( Maury used to have variety in his shows but now it's just " YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER. " :X
I think it's a good idea lol
haha it kind of make sense. but i doubt it'll work all the time
I love the episodes with the super obese babies. It makes me feel better about how much I weigh.
I thought the Maury show was staged. It gets kind of boring watching endless hours of paternity tests, but if it'll help the fathers ... o_O lol
I guess if it's effective for the men watching them, then I have no problem.
I doubt some man who refuses to support his child is going to have a change of heart after watching an hour of Maury. It's like when he does the shows on abusive husbands/boyfriends and sends them to "boot camp" or to a homeless shelter. How is that going to make a man who has been beating his wife or girlfriend have some sudden epiphany about his fists of fury?
Um, it doesn't. Watching other men trying to deny their children (and sometimes beating that bad rap!) isn't going to make some man think to himself, "God, I'm such a douchebag! I need to man up and handle my business." And if it does, he must be the kind of person who is very easily influenced.
i think its a great idea! i watch maury almost every day. (:
i think that's a great idea. i only watch it if there is absolutely nothing else to watch but i must admit, i do get stuck on watching it.
This actually makes sense to me. Since it would be easier to look at someone else doing something similar to the one watching the show, it would seem to be the easiest way to break it to a guy how ridiculous is situation is that he has created.
Hi Good morning!
Here in India we are hypocrites by national assent. So have thousands of parent-scumbags but only litigations after that--not wiser parents for starters.ha ha!
Maury Povich I have never seen yet but I feel it is trying to address a felt need.
Congratulations for introducing me to this
sadaboy.
