Craigslist Revamps Its Most Questionable Section
via PC World:Online-classifieds site Craigslist said on Wednesday that it will remove the "erotic services" category of advertisements from its U.S. Web site in a week, after the site was criticized by law enforcement agencies as providing a forum for prostitution and other illegal activities.
Postings to the erotic services category will not be accepted from Wednesday, the site said on its blog.
Craigslist has also set up, starting Wednesday, a new category, called "adult services", on its U.S. web sites, which will be open for postings by legal adult service providers.
Postings to this new category will be manually reviewed before appearing on the site, to ensure compliance with Craigslist posting guidelines and terms of use. New postings will cost US$10, but once approved, will be eligible for reposting at $5, Craigslist said.
Rats.
Have you used Craigslist before? I've found a friend and sold concert tickets on the site before, but I think I would be a little bit wary of using that particular section. Looking at the "casual encounters" section makes me want to gouge out my eyeballs.

too bad ....
Yeah I actually use craigslist a lot! I've already used it to sell my UT football tickets, Samsung phone, old ipod, and even found a person to sublease my apartment for the summer! I think you just need to use good judgment when you're on craigslist.
As for the adults section, didn't a girl already get killed because of a connection to Craigslist? I think that it would be smart of Craigslist just to stay out of it all together.Â
The media always puts the worst spin on this stuff. The ads in newspapers actually kill more people than Craigslist. These people know the danger of going to these "adult meetings". Let them take the risk of death if they want.
I use craigslist once in awhile, read the rants and raves, laugh at the personal ads, discuss in the random forums, etc.
Craigslist is the only way my friends and I find apartments. It's a lifesaver for that.
But kudos to the owners for acknowledging the section about adult services. I think putting on a more vigileant policy is a good decision, after the most recent homicides in the east coast that have happened through the site.
LOL
I dont trust craigs list, for the sole reason I've seen a friend lie to someone about their peice of shit car, which the other person bought because of what he said. After he sold him the car, he litterally tore off his licence plate, ruining the car even more.
@stardust81@xanga - i'd say finding apartments is the only safe listings on there, from what I've seen.
On Kijiji.com people give away alot of free stuff, alot of it is crap, but sometimes you can find some good shit.
I like craigslist for job postings in the area and also for people selling stuff.
people are just trying to put a bad name on craigslist because its free advertising..everyone else want you to make them money by paying for advertising. people need to get off their high horses and realize that this happens EVERYWHERE.
uhmm and ive read the section their revamping just for laughs. I think its stupid that theyre saying it promotes prostitution. people are tryin to get fuckd for free on there. craigslist shoulda jsut monitor the words on there, no? Now you have to pay to look at the adult section.. which is kinda like prositution if your looking to get laid lol.
....... last night while having trouble sleeping I decided to watch STill UP with Max and Jason, you can check them out at current.com, they were doing a documentary on Craigslist. They set up an add for a guy just to see what would happen and then followed him around for a while with a camera, nothing happened basically, but there was this other guy who gets laid (and more) bout three times a night by different girls using Craigslist, is this sad or what?
CL is interesting. I've found great deals and some big laughs there. But for personal use? I don't think I could ever do it. For revenge? Oh yes, I could. And I will.
@miz_shirley@xanga - Haha, you aren't using Blackboard to sell the tickets?! Just kidding =)
Never used it, never will. I only go through fully reputable sellers.
NOOOOoooooo
that's my favorite part of craigslist!!!!! me and my friends sometimes read it for fun when it's rainy or snowy and we dont' feel like going out LOL
!!! This better not happen in Canada!
I think this phrase sums it up:
"Don't go there, girlfriend"
ugh! i have totally mixed feelings about that site. i bought a car through there and it broke down the very next day! WTF?! but i also got my current job through there too and it's a good job.
EH...
this is funny because my husband and i were actually looking at craigslist for the first time last night. we had quite an amusing time looking at some of the ads on there, haha. but from what i can tell, the "adult" section is simply the "erotic" section under a different name. people are still offering prostitution services. so i'm not sure how it's suddenly legal. and it seems like there are four sections dedicated to slight variations of "hey, let's get together and f*ck". which honestly seems like a bit of overkill.
so, in answer to your question- we've used craigslist as a source of entertainment to pass an evening, but not to actually find or offer any services.
:)
LOl, I only went on to read the different entries lol.
hahah craigslist is hilarious.
i had to find a place to live a few months back so i got help from craigslist.
I think that the US should simply create brothels in every state and gather taxes off of the payments. Nevada is doing it (though I don't know whether they're getting taxes from the Bunny ranch.. o_O). That way, there won't be ladies risking their lives on the streets (they'll be in the brothels!) and they can get TESTED! Hallelujah!
I mean, really. Think of all the possibilities. If people would only get creative.
As for craigslist, I've never used it. I most likely never will.
I sometimes read them just to get a good laugh... har har har.
