Contraceptives And Human Error - A Quick Quote
I remember reading this somewhere a while ago...Not sure if this is exactly how it goes, but I think it's pretty close:
"Condoms work 97% of the time if used perfectly. They work about 83% of the time when taking into account human error. Abstinence works 100% of the time if used perfectly. It works about 0% of the time when taking into account human error."
Just thought I'd put it out there. Thoughts?

It's not entirely true, but pretty funny!
I just read this on a another Xanga blog in the last day.
@RunningMan42@xanga - and there she is on the side listed as the author...
Soooo, your point?
@RunningMan42@xanga - she said she remembered reading it from somewhere a while ago. geez its not like its copyrighted. *rolls eyes*
LOL to the quote! and uh oh...haha
@cherry_tequila@xanga - LOL...
I read it on her site as a separate blog from here. When I read it here on datingish, I didn't know it was her blog being featured. I then commented the first time and I then scrolled up and saw that she was the author.
Sorry you misunderstood.
hah. Saw this on your blog earlier :P
@Fluxuater@xanga - You know, sometimes it's a good idea to read something more than once. And use a dictionary.
@RunningMan42@xanga - oh, oops! lol its all good:)
haha thats awesome and true
just look at the Duggar family XD
Awesome quote don't you just love human error? I do. =)
@cherry_tequila@xanga - No worries, it's all good.
And so far the birth control pill is 100% effective for me.
Hahaha... not true, but amusing nonetheless. (you can have unprotected sex and still not get pregnant, y'know!)
Not quite. Try this:
"Condoms work 97% of the time if used perfectly. They work about 83% of the time when taking into account human error. Abstinence works 100% of the time if used perfectly. It also works about 100% of the time when taking into account human error (as if it were possible to 'make an error' when practicing abstinence).
However, NOT using condoms and NOT practicing abstinence both work about as well as not using anything."
Or to put it another way:
Couples who honestly believed they were using condoms correctly have produced thousands of unexpected pregnancies over the years.
Couples who honestly believed they were practicing abstinence have produced exactly ONE unexpected pregnancy in all of recorded history,...
and He got nailed to a cross.
ahah...interesting :)
@FredTownWard@xanga - ok i think you're taking it too seriously. the joke is more that people who plan an being abstinent but end up having sex are less likely to use protection because it isnt planned....

Well, that's exactly my trouble with the joke.
Advocates for mandatory sex education of public school children have always tried to justify it with the intellectually dubious argument that "they are going to do it anyway so let's teach them how to do it 'safely'."
Substitute any other questionable activity children can participate in that their parents would rather they didn't: "smoking", "drinking alcohol", "using drugs", "getting a tattoo", "getting pierced", "gambling", etc., for "having sex", and you can see just how nonsensical this kind of argument truly is.
So when sex education advocates question the effectiveness of abstinence teaching, they effectively admit to deliberately promoting sexual promiscuity in school age children...
or to being idiots.
Neither is all that funny IMHO.
@FredTownWard@xanga - Develop a sense of humor, Christ!!
@babykittytara@xanga - i agree! geez.

Would you have the same response if we were discussing a racist joke or a sexist joke?
Just because a joke is funny doesn't mean it is above criticism,...
especially when it contains a misrepresentation of the facts.
...or encourages questionable activity.
@FredTownWard@xanga - Yes, i would have the exact same response if it was a sexist joke, racist joke, sexual orientation joke, or any other joke. Because a joke is a joke. If you can't laugh at everything, then you can't laugh at anything. You can't pick and choose what jokes can be funny and what jokes can't just because they're on a subject that's "touchy". So i stand by my statement: Develop a sense of humor.

Well, I respect your honesty, but I have to respond with: Develop some common sense and common courtesy.
You are not going to find very many people in all of human history much less today who will agree with your premise that ANYTHING goes as long as it's "funny", and said tiny group will be composed largely of the insensitive and uncaring.
What's more, your claim that "If you can't laugh at everything, then you can't laugh at anything" is quite obviously false.
