ABC Explores Stereotypes and Tolerance in A New Jersey Bar
ABC News ran a segment recently where they hired five actors to sit in a sports bar in New Jersey - two guys (a real life couple) portrayed a gay couple, a guy and a girl played a straight couple and one guy played a very vocal jerk.
The way the situations play out are really interesting. Check it out:

I love this!
This makes me so incredibly happy.
This might have just been an experiment, but to see those people stand up for the gay couple gives me a little faith, that maybe we're (as in Americans) more tolerant then I believed.
I have no problem with homosexuality, but I do have a problem with PDA. (especially now, since I'm a single girl at the moment) I'm just not fond of people (of any sexual orientation) pretty much dry-hump each other right next to me. :)
There is a time and place for everything, in my opinion. And be mindful of who is around you.
I've never spoken out about intolerant behavior, myself, even though I wanted to sometimes. ( "Really?! Are you going to do that here?! Just stop." ) I just shake my head and leave it alone.
That really is encouraging.
Aw, I'm so glad the gay couple was stood up for. Makes me smile :] This is really interesting.I'd totally stand up for the couple. I'm a huge advocate of LGBTQ rights & equality (:
whoa I would have no idea what I would do in that situation. I'm not a person that will speak up very often because that's just not me... but I would NEVER bash another person's sexuality... hey it's there life... and I have no right to poke fun or go "ew" at them. I'm glad for those people that stood up to the ones who were making fun of the gay couple... way to go. Just because some people think being gay is sick does not mean that you should make harsh comments towards them... I find that very unacceptable.
jeez. i think people need to learn to be more open minded. its okay to watch two women get it on in porn but its not okay to watch two gay guys be affectionate in public!? oh please. if society thinks gay marriage is unacceptable, then i think girl on girl action in porn should be banned. we cant ban people from falling in love or wanting to have a relationship with someone of the same gender. get over it!
@lovemonkeyy@xanga - i agree.
i believe in equal rights for everybody - but PDA is something i just feel uncomfortable w/ doesnt matter if its a gay couple or straight couple it just makes me uncomfortable. i dont mind seeing hugging or holding hand.. but making out and groping.. yuck. keep it behind closed doors!!
My attention span is too short to watch it all the way through.
Wow, the outcome surprised me, and in a good way :)
But when it comes to inappropriate behavior in public, it doesn't matter if the couple is gay or heterosexual; there's still a time and place for everything. For the most part, if I see something I don't like, I just move or look away. Making loud and offensive comments isn't necessary.
@eyesochinky@xanga - I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but lesbian porn and gay public displays of affection are two different issues. Porn is restricted to adult audiences and not open to the public for viewing, whereas two guys (or any couple regardless of gender) touching and kissing each other in public might be considered inappropriate because, well, it's in public and therefore uncontrolled by any restrictions (unless a police officer or some other authority sees and asks the couple not to make out in front of someone else's kids in the park).
And as far as gay marriage, that's not an issue of banning two guys/girls from falling in love or being in a relationship or from touching and kissing, it's a matter of not allowing two guys/girls be joined in what's considered by some to be a sacred union between a man and woman.
I am very intolerant of those who are intolerant. I hate it when people who are homophobic say that by me being closed-minded to their religious/moral beliefs means I'm being hypocritical but you know what, I don't care if it's hypocritical. Hopefully by the time I'm grown up, there will be very few homophobics left...
Wow, I'm so happy and proud to see some of those people standing up and not putting up with the intolerance. We need more of this....
Peoples ignorance shows off when they think no one is watching and when they think they will draw an audience in their favor
welcome to america
I really hate PDA. I'd fail in there whichever couple was doing that, the straight or the gay.
Its great to see America becoming more tolerant. Truely, change in happening in America.
I like this!
Personally, I don't agree with homosexuality; I think it's wrong, but who am I to tell somebody else how they should live their life? Who am I to judge somebody harshly for the lifestyle he or she chose? Now, I'm not the type of conservative, Christian "homophobe" that you would find at an anti-gay rally or something of that nature. I know a few gay and lesbian people. No, I don't like them all, but it's not because of their sexuality. I dislike them because of their personality and how they treat me.
@littlebitty8907 - I feel the same way. While I don't agree with homosexuality and personally believe it goes against Christian principles (and I am Christian) I think it's good that people at least show love for each other, and I don't have the right to tell them how to live their lives. (Actually I do; I can tell anyone anything I want to, but I don't have the right to enforce any of it. In case you want to get technical.)
But I think if someone objected to gay/lesbian PDA, other people would take it as hating and not just enforcing rules on public affection. Sadly enough. :\
@lovemonkeyy@xanga - I completely agree with your views on PDA.
eyesochinky@xanga I love this, i completely agree. lol
