  • How Has Your Taste in Guys or Girls Changed?

Have you guys ever noticed that your taste in the opposite sex changes over time? Surprisingly, I just noticed this recently.

In the past, I was more attracted to guys that were outgoing, down-to-earth and with a sensitive side. I never cared about how they expressed or related themselves to society having a goal for themselves and making something of their life. This fact never really ran through my mind. These days I've realized there is something that could be more attractive than a guy's look or personality (not saying that it doesn't matter), but his intelligence could drown those other traits out (personal thought).

Maybe this change is because of age - being older and wiser. What you might have found attractive three years ago would totally change from what you find attractive now. Maybe it's just me and everyone has his/her own personal experience with this kind of change.

Have you ever experienced this? What kind of qualities were you looking for in a person three years ago?

    when i was

    15 -- skater boys, jocks

    18 -- tattooed gangsters, drugdealers

20 -- men in suits who drive beautiful cars lol

  • Michelynne@xanga

Honestly?  My tastes haven't changed.  I know the qualities I like in men, and those have remained constant, as my own personal values and dreams have also remained constant.

Used to, I just liked guys who looked good. That was a while ago, and while those qualities still matter, I find myself paying attention to the way they treat other people, and their levels of respect towards myself. I looked for the "bad boy image" a while back, and I still do, but I've had that, and been treated terribly, sending my self respect down the toilet. As I gained maturity through-out the relationship, I realized that I didn't have to be treated like that. Now I pay attention to the whole package, and I've decided that I wont settle in relationships. I'm only sixteen, and I'm sure that I'll change things in my preference of guys as I get older, and more mature.

I used to go for the whole scene nerdy guys.
Now I go more for the dresses-casual-but-nice guy that's super smart, sarcastic, uses dry humor and knows how to party. But I still go for the nerdy thing though. lol

  • goD_I_V_Aunc10@xanga

3 years ago I would have settled...
probably with whoever really wanted to be with me.

    Boy have I changed! lol

I used to have a thing for Puerto Rican guys, then Italians, then Asians. Right now -_- boys that AREN'T my age. I heard this one weird theory once: You are attracted the opposite of with whom you were raised with. (eg. My dad is short & brown... the opposite of what I look for) Weird.

@Michelynne@xanga - I'm the same way. I've always known what I've wanted and not wanted in a man and have always valued the same traits. When I was 18, I figured out exactly what those traits were, and fast forward to two years later, I found that I still value those exact same traits. I doubt they will change in the near future.

  • pillowpixies@xanga

I used to look for the quality of "jerk" in a male without realizing it.

  • piggie002@xanga

    yes, mine has changed dramatically.

    intelligence matters!
  • happyobligations@xanga

I used to like white guys a LOT. Then I went more for Asian guys. Now I like Filipino guys, though any guy that is cute catches my attention regardless of race. I've also noticed a lot of the guys I like have facial hair / shy personality.

I used to be attracted to guys that dress like the typical gangsta and wear the white t-shirt with baggy jeans uniform as if they are a cartoon character...and they were the a-hole/classclown types with a D minus grade point average lol

now I'm attracted to the guys that dress like justin timberlake but I don't know if that is more original and mature or not lol and while their a-hole personality is toned down a bit, they still look like a-holes, only dressed like a typical prettyboy and dress shirts is their uniform. so basically I'm drawn to guys, who wear long sleeved shirts now hahaha...oh yeah, I still prefer guys, who are loyal, kind and all of those positively ideal personality traits because liars are not good bfs lol

  • asdfghjkieu@xanga

i used to like cute boys. now i like older men with money.

  • mywordsx@xanga

    Haha, same.

When I was in elementary school, I did not want myself to have a crush on Asian boys, just Caucasians boys. Then when I went into middle school, it was the other way around - Liking Caucasians, and not wanting to pay attention to Asians. I also was infatuated with skaters, piercings and tattoos. :P

But now, I have my options open. I don't care about race anymore, nor the piercings/tattoos. The first thing I look for now is humor and style lol.

  • XxRainyxMondayxX@xanga

i'm still young, so i haven't really had time for my taste to change

  • steph

It totally hasn't. I fall for the sweet, into music, teddybear type. :)

  • Phwo0osh@xanga

My taste in guys change every year I think.
3 yrs ago: Dorky/ Awkward but has potential cuteness
2 yrs ago: Skater guys (or one particular skater guy I crushed on for a year who eventually became one of my best friends.)
1 year ago: Asians who dress super well and have nice hair.
Now: Filipinos who dress super well and aren't jerks and have nice hair.

I think I'm meant to end up with a traditional family-loving Filipino guy :)
But, with this fickle mind of mine, who knows.

  • El_Prego_Nikki@xanga

@steph - Your picture says it all. Too cute.

As for my taste in guys, it has changed DRASTICALLY, but I will not go into the details of my past stupidity.

  • WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga

Nope. I love smart guys with light skin and blue eyes. or smart black dudes or British black dudes, yummy. I got a thing for a guy in a suit, not because he has money because that is stupid. But because he looks intelligent. He went to school and has a degree. Oh, GOD! And if he has a British accent!!!!!!!!!!!

    But what are my chances?

I love the older, intelligent types.

  • Roadlesstaken@xanga

Thinking about it now, I actually don't think my taste in girls have change too much over the years.  I still fall for the same types everytime haha

  • addyorable@xanga

Of course your tastes change. As you grow older and more matured, you will realize that some things you wanted before are not what you want now. It's perfectly normal.

  • Peridot21@xanga

@asdfghjkieu@xanga - i'm with you girl...wait, how bout CUTE older men with $$$? (even better! lol :D)

  • Trigger821@xanga

I am with roadlesstaken, don't think my taste in girls have change much. I still like the bubbly girl next door type or the sweet quiet librarian type.

  • tastytimmm@xanga

I am attracted to petite girls lol Age doesn't really matter. Just cute, short, and proportional is my thing. But personality is greater than all physical traits!

  • littlemissNINETEEN@xanga

i used to be the materialistic kinda gurl, now settling for this really sweeeeeet guy who's down-to-earth.

I suppose as you mature, you realise that love isnt all about looks and popularity?

  • natashasmells@xanga

16 - 18-- Long hair, dirty boys, liked to party, most of them didn't have a job or a car.

Now -- OLDER guys, [[too old for me to be dating,]] guys with a lot of money.
