Chimpanzees enter into "deals" whereby they exchange meat for sex, according to researchers.
Male chimps that are willing to share the proceeds of their hunting expeditions mate twice as often as their more selfish counterparts.
This is a long-term exchange, so males continue to share their catch with females when they are not fertile, copulating with them when they are.
The team describe their findings in the journal PLoS One.
Cristina Gomes and her colleagues, from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany, studied chimps in the Tai Forest reserve in Ivory Coast.
She and her team observed the animals as they hunted, and monitored the number of times they copulated.
"By sharing, the males increase the number of times they mate, and the females increase their intake of calories," said Dr Gomes.
"What's amazing is that if a male shares with a particular female, he doubles the number of times he copulates with her, which is likely to increase the probability of fertilising that female."

you know, at first i was gonna give a sarcastic response, something along the lines of "no, i prefer people who abuse me"...
but the sad thing is that there are many people who actually are like that.

I guess I'm kind of a high maintenance girl. I love it when a guy takes care of me. Not that I'm not independent, but I love it when he does little stuff like wash me when we shower together, or grab me some aspirin when I've got a headache. It's mutual; we take care of each other, but I like it.
I guess I do. I mean, most of them DON'T simply by virtue of the fact that I don't really need much assistance, but the fact that they offer to take care of me when I'm sick is very important.
thank goodness that the female chimps didn't advance their IQ , other wise it will be hard for male chimps to earn diamonds, financial securities etc etc.

i am definitely! attraction and nurture are definitely part of human nature. my man takes care of me :] it feels nice to belong to someone and know that somebody depends on you
If some guy gave me meat, it would be a definite turn-off (I'm vegan).
It's nice to feel taken care of as opposed to forgotten or unimportant. My girlfriend takes care of me when I'm not feeling well and I take care of her when she's not feeling well. It's just how we are.
