  • SHOOT ME! Bloody Valentine's Playlist, Part 2

I realized I left some songs off of the current playlist I have on my iPod, and some songs on the albums I bought at the store. So, this is a Part 2 of SHOOT ME! Hopefully you'll search more for these songs.

    1. eels "I'm Going to Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart": eels always has a way to communicate real life through music, especially in the weird sense. But this song isn't that weird song. In fact, the song is about a man who wants to say he's sorry for breaking his ex's heart, but his apology is past due. Throughout all this, you can feel the sincerity through the music. It's one of the reasons Blinking Lights and Other Revelations is a very essential eels album.

    2. Animal Nation "Petal Pickers": Yes, people, hip-hop musicians make post-breakup songs that reminisce about the wrong they have done to the relationship.

    3. Max Tundra "Which Song": On Parrallax Error Beheads You, Max Tundra makes it clear that he is searching high and low for a new ladyfriend or what he calls a "potential wife", but "Which Song" captures the awkwardness of wanting to date a girl that you haven't yet gotten to know. Plus, this song is the life of anyone who has ever feared getting friend zoned because they aren't like other men. "Just because I don't like football, or wear expensive shoes, doesn't mean that my friend isn't something you should choose." He's apparently talking about more than just friendships here.

    4. Television Personalities "I Hope You're Happy Now": why can't all breakup songs be this courteous around an ex? This one finds Dan Treacy saying so long, I hope you found what you are looking for in the guy you have. And there are no hard feelings to be found at all.

    5. Head Automatica "Lying through Your Teeth": Daryl is the king of expressing anger and snide feelings in a breakup song. What other band do you know has a singer that is so blunt on disses his ex by saying, "Girl, your love's so cheap, we've been passing you around"? Not bands like The Click Five and the Jonas Brothers, that's for sure.

    6. Amanda Palmer "Ampersand": It's very surprising that Amanda Palmer is the one who wrote this, since she comes off as a romantic type of woman, but this song just turns down the frightening idea of having a partner and doing anything for monogamous and obsessive love.

    7. The Raveonettes "The Beat Dies": Count on The Raveonettes to describe the act of love gone flat, especially between two people who at first lusted after each other.

    8. Suffrajett "Mr. Man": Sometimes, it is best to let songs speak for themselves. This is a girl's dream breakup track.

    9. Bloc Party "Trojan Horse": Never mind the skitterish electronics, although that's the best part of the song. Kele is left to reminisce about the times he had with his boyfriend, but soon he is left singing, "You know I still adore you in a different kind of way". The best part is, there is no hard feelings.

    10. Ima Robot "Victory": Currently up on their MySpace page is a song from their new (currently untitled) album, which promises peace and a good future for two people who have each hurt each other in love. Alex Ebert pushes the other to love and fall in love all over again.

    11. Bent "After All The Love": I usually don't like giving songs that end an album, but you have to be interested in a song that is almost a foreshadow to the breakup. The person still loving with all their might the person who fell out of love.

    12. Of Montreal "No Conclusion": The one thing you have to learn about long term relationships, especially one that lasts long enough for you and your sweetie to get married, is that the longer you guys date, the more hurtful and long the pain is when it is all over. Kevin Barnes learned that the hard way.

    13. Cyanide Valentine "You Don't Really Love Me": Back when Jake Zavracky doesn't mind being snide about his feelings, Jake never hesitates to easily chew out an ex who mistreated him just enough to ensure he wants no relationship afterward.

    14. Sufrajett "Anybody Listening": I thought it was best to close the list with a song where Simi, the lead singer, tries to console the listener who has been in a breakup so bad that he/she has given up on relationships.

That's part 2 of my list, and the last volume of such.
