Last year, a friend of mine and his girlfriend decided to list their relationship statuses as "engaged" on April 1st. Ha! Get it? It's funny because they're...not...engaged? Uh.
Anyway, the people on his friends list didn't appreciate it, nor did did his parents when they started fielding congratulatory calls from people they hadn't heard from in years. "[My daughter] heard about it on the computer!"
They ended up breaking up later that year. Whoops.
Are you and your SO planning any joint April Fools' jokes? Would you ever jokingly tell people you were getting married just to see what the reaction was?

I am sorry to hear that... but seriously... people should not be angry about being fooled on April fools... Should be smart enough to realize what day it is... I was once told by my friend that he got cancer and I fell for it... but then at the end I just laugh out of it cuz it's April fools
Seriously... Enjoy the fun that you can have~
Obviously there are some jokes you pull on April Fool's, some you don't. The ones that are too close to the truth shouldn't be done, period. But at the same time, if a joke is pulled that some people believed, they only end up upset because their pride is bruised. And that they need to get over.
Like, it's april fools...so people might get pranked...that happens sometimes...and people take it seriously...but that sucks...
@Melosa@xanga - People have different standards... it's hard to say which jokes can be made and which cannot be...
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - yea... people who take it seriously just take the fun out of April fools'
@lmflazyjai1984@xanga - I know right? People always go, "you lied to me, man! that's not cool!" or, "man, that's not even a joke, bro! I hate you!" It's APRIL FOOL'S Day. A joke is a joke is a joke.
My boyfriend told his mom and his aunt that him and I were engaged on Christmas. My mom had gotten me a new ring that I absolutely loved and refused to take off, so he decided to take advantage of it. Of course, I couldn't keep a straight face while he was making the announcement (which his aunt noticed right away, although after his mom stopped looking at him like he was crazy, she noticed too), which kind of put a damper on his joke.
Other than random, spur of the moment type things like that, I don't plan April Fool's jokes.
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - That's right... Have fun on April fools'
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - If that was on Christmas, that's not great... but if it's today... then it's fine~
@lmflazyjai1984@xanga - Why is my story only fine if it happened on April Fool's day? Because we made a joke about getting married, and something like that is only acceptable once a year on a specific day? The question at the end of the entry doesn't specify that you had to have joked about marriage on April 1st, just if you've ever joked about marriage to see a reaction.
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - cuz it's April fools'... (just my opinion)
@lmflazyjai1984@xanga - That doesn't mean that people can't joke about it at other times though. Personally, I think that April Fool's is the worst time to joke about marriage as opposed to any other time of the year. Like I said above though, the question doesn't specify that any jokes pertaining to marriage must have been made on April 1st to be relevant, so I was just sharing my story.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha i thynk itz funny i absolutly wudda ben in onna prank lyke that hahahahahahaha
Know your audience?
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - well then to me it's the worst to joke about it any other time then April fools'
Once I told my mom I was pregnant on April Fools and she was shocked and almost cried. Then when I told her the truth (which was only like 2 minutes later) she started saying a ton of blessings and the joke sort of died...my dad thought it was funny though :)
My ex-boyfriend and best friend are listed as "in a relationship" on Facebook. That's their April Fool's joke.
Last year I had my pregnant friend pee on a stick for me. My boyfriend shit his pants.
I don't really see why the parents would be upset if it was obviously a joke.
Wow. Glad we decided to get engaged before april fool's day! :P My SO and I have no plans to do anything to fool people today. It's just another day for us as far as we're concerned.
Well, my girlfriend played a harmless joke on me, but I took it too seriously and got upset. It was my fault because I didn't take it as a joke.
@givememyshare@xanga - very inventive of you! lol
to answer the questions.....no. i am not creative enough to come up with jokes even on april fools day.
I think it depends on how much the issue matters to others. You have to consider the feelings of other people when joking around because just because it is April fool's day are we going to hurt everybody on account that we are allowed to joke around on this day. For example, if I was an orphan who lost her father and her mother is very sick and bed ridden and on April fool's somebody tells me that my mother died or got another illness...that would not be right because of the emotional toll it has on others. Knowing that it probably is a joke does not eliminate the posibility from the mind. Your mind jumps into the posibilities even if for a split second and you go through the emotions associated with that posibility, however short of a period of time that is.
I think it has to deal with the sensitivity of the issue. There are things you could joke about and things you definitely should not (like my example). It could be compared to playing with somebody's feelings.
well that sucks. hope they didn't break up BECAUSE of the april fool's joke
There are certain things you just can't joke about in my opinion though. Telling someone you have a terminal illness or someone died then screaming APRIL FOOLS in their face would not be acceptable. Stuff like that can be traumatizing.
I always just did the small practical jokes. No foul, no harm.
Switch the salt and suger containers, short sheet the beds, send a prank email about a late library book. That kind of stuff.
Other than that, jokes on April Fool's after hundreds of years are too expectant, unless your victim tends to smoke weed and not know the date, and then it doesnt matter, because they believe too much, and laugh at everything when stoned anyways,
