Too Old? Divide His Age In Half And Add 7
I was checking my horoscope this morning when I happened to glance at an article written by the astrologer regarding the correlation between age and a relationship. He said the foolproof method of determining whether or not the age gap is appropriate lies in simple math:
"Cut the older partner's age in half....then add 7. If the younger one is younger than that...they're 'too young'. It doesn't matter how old you are, the same rule applies. If you're 30, you shouldn't go out with anyone younger than 22 (15+7). If you're 42, your partner ought to be at least 28."This sounded pretty genius to me, so I thought I'd share.
Do you agree with the method? According to his formula, what's the youngest age you should date?
(editor's note: I got 18.5 - NO THANK YOU)

I've heard about that method many times actually, and the youngest I could date is a fifteen year old :P. I'm already dating a boy who's 18 in April, however according to his I'm not too young for him! ^_^
My boy is 21...10.5+7 is 17.5....I'm only off by .5!
It's probably a good rule of thumb, but people's maturity varies, so it really depends on the two individuals in question

Sounds good to me :P
Let's see...
He's almost 30, so 30/2=15.
15+7=22.
I'm 35.
No problem!
Seriously, I don't think I could date a 22 year-old. I had a 23 year-old after me when was 32, and it was just way too big of a gap. Then again, I also had a 43 year-old interested, and a 46 year-old. There might have been potential with the 46 year-old if not for extenuating circumstances that put him thousands of miles away. The 43 year-old? He was just immature, and at his age, I think it was a safe bet to say that he was never going to outgrow it, LOL!
I got 17.5... um yeah, there's no way I'd date a guy who's fresh out of high school.
I'm off by a year. He's 24. Divide that by 2 then add 7. 19, I'm only 18.
I agree with sonnigenmai, people's maturity vary. Growing up I was always friends with people older than me, now almost all of my friends range from 18-31. Thats a huge difference. I've been told its because I'm an only child.
I would be able to date as young as 16.5 or as old as 24, by that rule.
But that's pretty much bullshit. I would only date between 18 and 23 (and I would be really uncomfortable with either an 18-year-old or a 23-year-old: I prefer men less than one year younger or up to two years older)
@Cancun_Cantina@xanga - Wow. I wouldn't even date a 24-year-old and I'm basically twenty. Good luck though! O.o
One of the shittiest formulas ever. It's completely arbitrary.
this works.. my boyfriend is 28
14+7=21
I'm 22
My boyfriend is 18, I am 17.
9 + 7 = 16
Yay!
The younest age I could date...
8.5 + 7 = 15.5
No thank you. I'm only in high school, and something about the younger boys just freaks me out.
i like this method, but only to see if the girl is too young for the guy.
the oldest guy i could date would be 22 :D
I think that's a pretty good rule.
Yeah I got 24.5 but my girl is 19 so oh well.
I got 15.5; I'd be considered a child molester if I were to date somebody that young. That's only a year and a half younger, but uh.. I think a year and a half, in this case, counts. Me and my boyfriend (according to that astrologers rules) are perfect for each other, score.
Though, like others have said, maturity varies. I know a 23 year old who has the maturity that I did when I was 13 years old, so these rules don't apply to everybody.
The youngest I could date is 18.5. Nope! Sorry!
Youngest would be 17.5...that is sooo wrong on so many levels haha I cannot even imagine dating someone a year younger. I've been through everything I could possibly go through when I was 17-18-19 and I do NOT want to go back or to be with someone who is going through those things
I can date people between 17.5 and 28 then... Except 17.5 is too young, and 28 is too old for my tastes... I prefer to be between 1 year older or 2 years younger than the person I date. Maybe it'll change when I'm older (I'm only 21)... but the younger age is too young for me!
Mine is 16.5. O_O No thanks! My boyfriend and I are the same age anyways.
The youngest I can date is 17...but I'll go no younger than 18, thanks. I prefer them legal.
Seeing as this formula has geek cred (XKCD)...
When I started dating my gf (now wife), I was almost 20 and she was 25.
25/2 = 12.5 + 7 = 19.5
She found out how old I was two weeks after I proposed to her. She was making the cakes for my brothers and I (twin bro, younger bro, and I share birthday), and my mom asked her to put our ages on the cake. My gf asked, "how old is Steven?" "He's 20 today." "?!?!?!"
17.5, hey it's legal in NC! My gf is 19.
I find it funny that all the girls replying are saying they would never date anyone that young. Most women seem to want to date older men anyway.
that sounds pretty accurate.. not only because sometimes huge age gaps can be creepy... but also because sometimes because of age, and the stages in life you're at, you're just not compatible.. thats a pretty simple trick!
@Cancun_Cantina@xanga - Yup, only child over here too! But, also military family; we moved a lot, never really had 'kid' friends...so experiences and family situations definately have influence o.0
Also, we can't chose whom we fall in love with, nor their age

hmm, lets see...he's 23 so thats 11.5+7=18.5, I'm okay lol
I'm 21 so 10.5+7=17.5, gross. No lil kids for me thanks!
