Yesterday I was running late after picking up cupcakes for the kids I babysit, and as I was leaving, a guy stopped me and started talking to me, saying he lived down the block, asking if I was from Europe and what I was doing there ("uh, buying cupcakes"), etc. He followed me down the block until I gave him a fake email address and told him he could email me there. Mean, I know. But I was late!
I was creeped out at how he pursued me...it's one thing to say, "okay, nice to meet you, maybe I'll see you around here again" and another to physically chase someone. And this particular cupcake place is known for its kid friendliness - there were a bunch of five-year-olds crammed into a very small space and this guy was just hanging around waiting to talk to someone. To me, it's the equivalent of hanging out at Toys 'R' Us hoping to find a lady.
People get hit on at the gym or at church, but what is the most inappropriate location someone could go to pick up chicks? A hospital? A preschool?

family reunion
Funeral, haha, although I forgot what that movie was called.
The least appropriate, um, bathroom? But that'd be kind of creepy, especially if it's a heterosexual pick up.
At a job interview.
@SilentHeaven389@xanga - Oh, that's.... *speechless*
mind you... NOT FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE! xD
Your situation is not uncommon I assure you. I know guys who would pretend to wave at someone they know ..as an excuse to approach that person. The girl would then start explaining to him that he has the wrong person unaware that he is tricking her into getting her number. So after about half an hour of following her around, the guy usually gets the number.
The kinds of things guys will do to pick up chicks. It's really really sad.
@LiLbabeSwT@xanga - I was gonna say that ! It was in Wedding Crashers rotfl
Public bathroom lines
During a roller coaster
At a therapist's office
During the Matrix
During someone's (or your own) childbirth
ONLINE
In the Apple Store
During surgery
I don'tget it. What is it you find socially unacceptable about someone asking for your #? I think you were approached by someone creppy. If he had been cool, would you have had an issue? And, as you said, he was hanging out waiting.
I could see going to a toys r us or bakery or anyplace else to buy whatever and striking up a conversation and exchanging #s.
A bakery is not an innapropriate place to meet someone. and, people with kids get picked up as well.
A hospital kind of depends on the situation. Not everyone in a hospital is sick. Employees, visitors.
Preschool? Kids aren't supposed to see adults exchange #s? Sometimes ist as eays as exchanging business crads. whats innapropriate about that?
To some ppl, talkign to ppl is natural. I grew up in NYC and talked to people in public places my whole life. I do it here in DC. If I get along with someone (as a friend or potentially more) I ask for their #. Whats the big deal?
In my mind...I can think of someplace that would be innapropriate to me: a funeral. That is where my line is drawn.
@SilentHeaven389@xanga - RIGHT...
@kassieisradxO@xanga - That's it! That's the movie. Haha. I love that movie. Classic.
Oh anther lease appropriate - church
Job interview! thats a good one. I agree.
Actually, I've gotten several #s on line at the restroom at a particular cafe where the lines are long. LOL. And, the girls met up w/me later, so they were obviously cool with it. Confidence and social skills and frendliness go a long way. :)
Jail
Court
When pulled over by a cop
Abortion clinic
@maxxbreaker@xanga - haha therapists office. Good one =]
at their wedding reception?
your SO's funeral.
@zubes5806@xanga - lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
hands down.
@TheLoveMuse@xanga - Awgh! I wanted to be the one who mentionned the abortion clinic. You beat me to it.
@zubes5806@xanga - Haha. That's creepy and kind of sad.
Totally unappropriate!
@Cuisine - i'm with you on this one. i feel like a lot of girls complain on here about getting hit on, but if guys never did it, nobody would ever get any action...so obviously we're doing something right!
How about a PTA meeting? I don't see anything wrong with church; if you two have the same faith, that's atleast one thing in common so why not. That's the only place I can really think of that I consider inappropriate.. but that's for obvious reasons. It might not even be inappropriate depending on whether they're married or not.
everyone stole my ideas!!
After you just crashed into her car?? Though, it could make for a cute story if things workout...
Divorce court? Jail (on day person gets let out)...
but these are inadvertently Good ideas at the same time...
Silenthaven389's response is the best.
Anything else, I think, would inadvertently be a good idea...
Though creepy.
haha Sexaholics Anonymous meetings
(from one of my favorite books/movies...)
@zubes5806@xanga - haha, actually that's how my best friend's one [now ex]boyfriend asked her out
he passed her a note saying, "I've always loved you." during the service
(they dated a couple years before, though he left her)
and have you ever read Love in the Time of Cholera?
the guy waits 50 years for the husband of the woman he was in love with to die - which is where he proposed Marriage to her...
Then again, I think you meant that you would ask someone out while your own SO is in his casket.
Hey, I think that would ironically give you a lot of pity dates.
haha
Funeral, hands down.
That or a family reunion.
