Since January, six of the couples I'm friends with have broken up. A few were not a surprise at all (when pet names include f***er and idiot, you have to wonder why they're together), but the others seemed like they were destined for marriage (one guy had even bought the ring!).
Along with them, my roommate is considering breaking up with his girlfriend, while just last week he was picking out names for the future children he planned on having with her! I don't want this trend to catch on - I'm paranoid about my own relationship now.
Has anyone else seen this happening? Why is 2009 the year everyone decides they want to be single?

Yeah! Like 4 couples I know have broken up, and I was having some odd thoughts myself (WHICH, thank god, have gone away) of maybe taking a break..
I don't understand. It's really weird. I think it might have to do with this Recession. Either people are so pessimistic that it's seeping into their relationship, or people are so hopeful for change that they get other ideas for other changes?
I'm probably COMPLETELY off, but it's an interesting idea.
yeah it's strange. a lot of couples i knew broke up on or within a few days of valentine's day which is bitterly ironic. i'm not really sure what it could be caused by. perhaps something in the water...
Yup I know a few people who broke up, and one of my good friends just broke up with his girlfriend yesterday. It's breakup season.
can someone read my most recent blog.. and help me?
im having some guy troubles..
Break-up season is in session. Now with the Spring almost here, new relationships will blossom.
it's the season, the weather.
it's dreadful, but i am one of the break ups of
the season, i broke up with my boyfriend of 14 months
like 8 days before valentines day.
it will soon pass. haha
I must say I've been noticing this as well. I broke up with my boyfriend, and we had been talking marriage in the future--i decided I'm too young (18) to be thinking about that kind of commitment right now and besides, he had serious long distance issues (i'm 2 hours away in college).
another friend of mine has been with her guy 2 years, and when he told her to shut the f**k up she lost her respect for him and is now dithering about when to break up with him.
another engaged friend is super pissed at her guy for whatever reason.
WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?!?

it's okay, i dumped mine the day after. ha. i thought v-day would bring us closer, but it only made me realize i couldn't be with him a day longer. so i wasn't. lol
Yeah! I've been noticing this little trend as well. Ehh, it happens I guess. Thankfully, 2009 has not had an affect on my relationship =D
The only friends with whom I keep in touch regularly all happen to be single, so I haven't noticed anything.
If anyone has noticed, there are times when people die, when people are born, when people break up and when a lot of people get married.
It comes and goes in waves, being at least a year in length, usually more.
Sadly I think we're in a time of death and divorce/break ups.
If anyone has an explanation for this that would be convenient.
@awokenfatality@xanga - break up season, indeed! my friends and I use that term and the term "mating season" hand-in-hand... because everyone wants to dump their respective mate, and find a new one (or several) to get busy with....haha
No.
When the weather gets warmer people start dumping one another. It's only natural.
@x__RainOnHerParade@xanga - thats good.
i just feel like shit now, because as much as i
know hes controling and not for me, it bugs me
that hes on a date. with a skank. yay. i feel like puking.
haha
Aww. I think you're so adorable. Uhm, and I guess I understand why you're feeling this way. But uhm, I don't think you should be bothered by what's happening outside your relationship that it might happen in your relationship too. I mean, if everything's fine, then don't go paranoid. This will surely drive your boyfriend crazy if you start being all weird on him. If everything's okay, don't look for a problem. And be careful not to cause it too. :)
Good luck.
Hmm.. well my friend's year and a half long relationship is over. However he found someone else days after, so it's not so bad. Ooh and my other friend broke up with his girlfriend of six months. Though they're bound to get back together, he says he loves her then he says cruel things.
Other then that.. my four best friends are still in their relationships, and I am in mine. They're all going well. :P

dont i know it..haha. when i broke up with him i told him that he'd be happier if he could find someone here. and he did. less than a week later. i mean, i kind of like someone else too, but i did love the guy and it hurts to see him moving on so quickly when we had been so serious beforehand. he and i were supposed to go to a hockey game last night, but he took this new girl instead since i'd broken up with him.
This is just the opposite for me. I am now in a relationship. :) Two thousand nine is looking pretty fine from my standpoint. :)
my bf just broke up with me recently. i think the bad economy has a big role in this. he's stressed with his job, bills, and the future, therefore making him unsure about the other parts in his life... which is pretty amazing, cuz even when i'm stressed he was the one person i could count on, he was what made everything ok. well that's life huh
yeah at least 3 couples i know have broken up...including me >.> I think she has a new guy too, i feel like puking too
2009 sucks
@x__RainOnHerParade@xanga - oh how boy do i know how you feel. ugh fuck guys. well just the assholes.
i just wish the weather would change, i feel like its wearing
me/ everyone down. things will soon be more happy once
the sun shines and the grass shows.
My situation is the exact opposite - everyone I know is getting together with someone! I think I'm the only single person in my group of friends.
HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI
i JUST CAN'T GET A BOYFRIEND
hhhheeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllpppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
I say it's because it's post Valentine's, New Year's, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween and stuff. And if people had birthdays in the past few months, it's adding another staple in one very cynical idea I have about why there are break ups.
People 180 on relationships all the time. One day it's "What will we name our future children?" and the next day it's "I never liked you anyway."
I'd say about 99% of relationships coming out of my high school class ended after graduation. Whether they stayed in town, went to the same college, or went to separate ones.
None of this surprises me.
